Betrayed by My Fiancé & Half‑Sister, My Twins Ruin Their Wedding
Chapter 5
Lila Dawson's eyes darted with panic, though she was fighting to keep her face calm.
"Elsie, don't jump to conclusions. Your mother and I were like sisters. She even asked me to look after your father before she..." Her voice trailed off as she forced a sorrowful sigh, squeezing out a tear for good measure.
"Before she jumped? So you knew she was going to do it?" Elsie's eyes narrowed with suspicion, her voice laced with doubt.
"She had a history of depression, but I never thought she'd actually go through with it..." Lila sighed dramatically, her face a mask of feigned grief.
"There's no use explaining anything to her. Apologize to Alice! It's her wedding day, and these baseless accusations are out of line," Mr. Wilson snapped, pulling Lila into his protective embrace.
"A girl's reputation is everything, right? Ha." Elsie let out a hollow laugh, her lips curling into a bitter smile. "Did you care about my reputation when everyone blamed me? Did you even hear my side before you threw me out? And now you're standing beside the woman who took everything from me."
The man in front of her—once her defender—now felt like a stranger. The man who had once cherished her was protecting someone else: the woman who had betrayed her and taken everything.
"You're the shameless one. You do terrible things and refuse to take responsibility, and now you're trying to get revenge on your sister?" Mr. Wilson spat, his anger clouding his judgment. "Apologize to Alice!"
"I won't apologize. I'm not the one to blame. If anyone is, it's her!" Elsie stood her ground, her stance unwavering.
Afraid the past might come spilling out, Alice cut in, fake tears streaming down her cheeks. "Sister, it's my fault, but Stephen and I truly love each other. I can't just step aside and let him go back to you."
The dramatic twist caught the guests off guard, leaving them to wonder whether Elsie was actually the one who had wronged Alice.
"Cut the act, Alice. You and I both know the truth," Elsie said, her stare icy, her voice dripping with disdain.
Suddenly, a commotion erupted outside. Men dressed in black stormed the wedding, grabbed Elsie, and whisked her into a car. It peeled away before anyone could react.
"After them!" Stephen Palmer shouted, panic sharpening his voice.
"I truly love you. I would never betray you," Alice said to Stephen, her voice perfectly pitched—sincere, vulnerable. Her tear-streaked face softened Stephen's heart and made him regret his earlier anger.
"It's my fault. I should have trusted you," Stephen said, holding her close, convinced that Elsie had plotted the whole thing to tear them apart.
Meanwhile, the black car tore down the road.
"That was close! Good thing I brought backup, or they might've taken you," Ophelia Jimenez said, exhaling in relief as she glanced back to make sure no one was following.
"Honestly, Ophelia! You went along with Cesar and Aurora's little scheme, and now look what happened!" Elsie scolded lightly before breaking into laughter—until concern creased her brow as she noticed her children were missing. "Where are Cesar and Aurora?"
"They'll meet us at home soon," Ophelia reassured her.
Relieved, Elsie nodded, some of the tension leaving her shoulders.
Back at the Luxe Grand Hotel, two small figures sat patiently on a sofa in the lobby, eyes glued to the door.
A sleek black SUV pulled up to the entrance, and Cesar's eyes lit up.
"Aurora, when the man gets out of that car, hold on to him tight," Cesar instructed, sure of himself.
"Is he really our dad?" Aurora asked, eyes wide with doubt, her voice sweet and soft.
"Yep. And I'll take you out for a feast afterward," Cesar promised. He'd done his homework and singled out one of the men who frequently pursued their mother as the most likely candidate.
Cesar had hacked into that man's personal computer, found his schedule for the day, and tracked him to the hotel.
Aurora slid off the sofa, her little face set with determination, and toddled toward the door.
Royal stepped out of the car with his phone pressed to his ear, his tone cool and edged with impatience. "I said I'm not meeting anyone, so stop setting me up."
His mother had been relentless about matchmaking since a friend's grandson's baby shower, lining up one date after another. He'd refused every single one.
"If you keep avoiding them, you can come home and find me dead!" his mother threatened sternly.
"Daddy!" Aurora cried, latching onto Royal's leg and looking up at him with wide, innocent eyes.
Royal looked down at the adorable little girl, a frown forming between his brows.
The cold authority rolling off him was overwhelming; Aurora's grip on his leg trembled.
Could this stern-looking man really be their dad?
"You have a child!" Royal's mother's voice rang out through the phone. She'd heard everything.
"She's mistaken me for someone else," Royal said flatly. Without a flicker of emotion, he pried the child off his leg and strode away.
Aurora was intimidated by his commanding presence and cold eyes. She didn't dare move. She looked pleadingly at her brother on the sofa.
Cesar waved her back, but Aurora misunderstood. She thought he was telling her to hang on. She thought about their mom's hard work and the promised feast. Swallowing her fear, she decided to press forward.
"Wait for me, Daddy!" Aurora cried, clinging to his leg like a little barnacle, even more determined this time.
Royal's frown deepened.
"Where are you? Bring that child home right now—or else!" his mother ordered, half excited, half threatening.
"I told you, it's a case of mistaken identity," Royal insisted, his frustration rising by the second.
"I don't care! If I don't see that child in twenty minutes, you'll have to deal with me!" his mother declared, then hung up.
Listening to the dial tone, Royal felt a headache coming on. The clueless child still clinging to his leg only made it worse.
Aurora shivered slightly as she held on, afraid he would leave.
"Daddy, don't look at me like that. It scares me," she said, her eyes welling up with tears, her small face so anxious and pitiful it was hard to watch.
"Who's your daddy?" Royal asked, his gaze cold as he looked down at the little girl causing him so much trouble.
"It's... it's you," Aurora stammered, her voice small and shaky as she began to cry.
"Waaah! Daddy's being mean—big brother, help!" Aurora wailed, looking over at the sofa only to find Cesar had disappeared.
"Waaah! Big brother's gone! Daddy! Big brother's gone!" Aurora cried even louder. Fear and tears poured out of her, and she wiped her face and snot on Royal's trousers while everyone in the lobby watched the commotion unfold.
