Chapter 2

"Give me the severance papers," I demanded, reaching out my hand.

In my past life, I found this very agreement, already signed by him, in the wreckage of our home two days after I was discharged from the hospital.

Seeing it back then nearly broke me. The son I had raised with so much care and effort not only injured me severely for a woman but also wanted to cut all ties with me.

I had sacrificed so much to give him a good life, enduring grueling work hours, drinking with clients until my stomach bled, and working late into the night.

Yet, all he remembered were my attempts to control him. My efforts to guide him were only to prevent him from going astray, but he resented me for it.

Fine, it was as if I never had this son.

Hearing my request, Ethan eagerly pulled the severance agreement from his pocket, his eyes lighting up with excitement. "Finally! Hurry up and sign it."

Without hesitation, I signed both copies.

Originally, I had hoped he would part ways with that dreadful woman. I was planning to find him a kind, responsible wife and was even ready to transfer two downtown apartments to his name, letting them live peacefully.

After he left, I collapsed onto the sofa, memories from my past life flooding back.

In a few days, I would put this apartment on the market. With its prime location, it would sell quickly and fetch a good price. I planned to move to the villa I recently bought in the suburbs.

Previously, I lived downtown to be close to him and my workplace, but I preferred a life closer to nature, away from the city's noise and chaos.

Now, I could live my life the way I wanted, without worrying about him. The money I'd earned was more than enough for me to live comfortably for the rest of my days.

Three months later, I got a call from the security guard at my old apartment. He said Ethan was causing a scene, claiming the place was his and ordering everyone to leave. The guard wanted me to explain that the apartment had been sold.

I bluntly told him I had no son and hung up.

Not long after, a video of Ethan's tantrum went viral.

In the footage, he was sporting bright yellow hair, a shredded shirt, and torn jeans, looking every bit the delinquent.

He was yelling at the landlord, calling them thieves and accusing them of stealing his home.

When the landlord showed him the sale agreement, he ignored it and even tried to tear it up.

The fiasco only ended when several security guards carried him out.

Watching the video, I couldn't help but remember how, at this same time in my past life, he had shown up at my door with that same ridiculous yellow hair.

At first, I didn't recognize him because I had always forbidden him from dyeing his hair with such outrageous colors.

He walked in, complaining about his miserable life. He said he was barely surviving, constantly hungry, and that Jessy was either hitting or berating him now that he was broke. He claimed he had finally seen her true colors and realized his mistakes.

Seeing him so gaunt and beaten down melted my heart. Coupled with his claims of realizing his mistakes, I forgot all the pain he caused me and just wanted to make it up to him.
