Chapter 1

My name was Grace Lane. My loving husband personally arranged a scene of catching an affair to move me and convince me to let him become the CEO.

Little did he know that I had already obtained the evidence. After playing along with him, I revealed the truth.

Ray, the more you care about something, the more I will destroy it.

I was consulting on my grandfather's inheritance dispute at a law firm in a remote suburb.

The boss of the law firm flipped through the legal books, sweat dripping from his forehead.

I couldn't help but click my tongue inwardly, thinking how unprofessional he was.

Conrad Bax knocked on the door and handed me a cup of coffee.

I took a sip and said, "Conrad, you still remember that I like Blue Mountain coffee."

The boss of the law firm poked his head out from a pile of books and asked, "Ms. Lane, do you know each other?"

I nodded with a smile, saying, "He is the husband of my close friend."

Conrad tapped on the desk. "Can I sit here and listen?"

"Of course. Mr. Bax is the only PhD student in our law firm!"

Conrad calmly sat down beside me, the hem of his suit lightly brushing against my skirt, and the cool woody scent of his perfume entered my nose.

I quietly took off my high heels under the table. I gently lifted one foot nimbly and, like a snake found its prey, I skillfully used my toes to rub against Conrad's calf, and my stockings rubbed against the fabric of his suit, making a barely audible sound.

Conrad's body trembled, and he turned his head to give me a meaningful look.

I cupped my face and smiled at him.

Conrad glanced distractedly under the desk, and I provocatively raised the arch of my foot and moved my foot upward.

Conrad let out a muffled groan, his back stiffening.

"Conrad, when was the last time we handled a genetic litigation?"

"What?"

His boss, Patrick Massy, was suspicious. "What's wrong with you? You seem absent-minded."

I kindly explained on Conrad's behalf, "Mr. Massy, your law firm has so many files that it gives people a headache. Mr. Bax seldom has a chance to relax. It's quite understandable."

Conrad snapped out of it and said, "In September last year, a CEO died suddenly. His wife entrusted us to sue the mistress for a genetic dispute, with a claim of 5 million dollars."

Patrick asked politely, "Ms. Lane, approximately how much money is involved in your inheritance dispute?"

I held up one finger.

He tentatively asked, "10 million dollars?"

I shook my head and said word by word, "1 billion dollars!"

Patrick was shocked.

"Are you really entrusting such a big case to us?"

"To be precise, I want Mr. Bax to handle it."

I looked at Conrad, who remained calm and composed.

He was very good at acting calm. He didn't reply to any of my flirtatious messages for a whole week.

When I walked out, I heard discussions in the law firm.

"She's a friend of Mr. Bax. Thanks to Mr. Bax, our law firm can handle such a big case."

Conrad walked me to the door of the law firm, and when we shook hands to say goodbye, I casually scratched his palm with my thumb, which must have made him feel ticklish.

Just as I left the law firm, I received his message.

[Grace, what do you mean?]

I smirked and quickly typed.

[Saturday night, 7 o'clock, Grand Hotel. Yes or no?]

I never expected that the first time I invited a man to a hotel, it would be my best friend's husband.

If Bonnie Hayward knew, she would definitely be furious.

No, she wouldn't be furious. After all, she was busy having an affair with Ray Douglas.

Who was Ray? Unfortunately, he was my husband.
