Ex-mate, I Don't Want You Anymore

As I strode into the jewelry shop, the scent of polished metal and leather filled my nostrils. I had arrived to collect the wedding rings, symbolizing my eternal bond with my mate, Alvin, the soon to be Alpha of the Murphy pack.

But upon getting there, I discovered there were two custom made rings, one had my name in it while the other had Mary Blackwell in it. I frown, why does she have a custom made ring like mine? Mary, a rogue, had been taken in by Alvin's pack after he'd saved her during a patrol. I remembered the day he'd brought her home, explaining her dire situation – no family, no pack, nowhere to go.

Alvin had explained this to me the day I first saw her. He told me not to misunderstand the situation and he would have done the same if she was a man too.

I took both rings home wanting to ask him why Mary has a ring like mine. But on getting home, I overheard Alvin speaking on the phone.

“Could you please buy a house for Mary in your name? I know but I don’t want Cynthia to find out”. I didn’t know what the other person at the end of the call said but Alvin's response totally shattered my heart, my wolf howled in pain.

“I love her, I can’t give up Mary”. Realizing I was the mistress in my own relationship, I decided to quit and let them be together.

Upon discovering two identical wedding rings, my heart sank. I had personally designed the ring, with the inner circle bearing the date we first met and our names. I had spent the whole night working on it, just to make it special and unique.

And yet there was another one exactly like mine, the only difference was the date and names. I had poured my heart into designing that ring, crafting every detail to represent our unique bond.

The inner circle held our special story: the date we met and our entwined names. So, discovering an identical ring with Mary's name alongside his, and the date they met, felt like a devastating blow. What I thought was our exclusive symbol of love turned out to be a duplicate, leaving me feeling foolish and betrayed.

I smiled bitterly and put Mary's ring back, taking mine. As soon as I walked out of the jewelry shop, I tossed the ring into the nearby trash. I kept taking deep breaths to calm my wolf down. She wouldn’t stop howling in pain, I didn’t want to exaggerate things.

Maybe it was just a misunderstanding, maybe there’s someone else who has the same name as my mate and it wasn’t him she was seeing.

Exiting the gold shop, I welcomed the refreshing breeze that swept away my mental fog. As my thoughts clarified, I reached for my phone to confront Alvin about the ring. But then, I saw his message: "Meet me at The Bistro, just around the corner." Sent mere minutes ago.

I made my way to the restaurant, thinking of ways to ask Alvin about the right. I didn’t want to cause any misunderstanding between us. I didn’t want him to think I was being insecure of our relationship.

As soon as I got to the restaurant I was asked if I had a reservation, I gave Alvin’s name and I was directed to where he was, following the waitress' guidance. I spotted Alvin standing by the window, his back to me, engrossed in a hushed phone call.

His words, barely audible, sent a chill down my spine: "Please help me buy a house for Mary in your name... Don't let Cynthia find out."
