Chapter 1

KAYLA:

I’d always known about Alpha Vance’s affair with Juliet, his secretary. Maybe I’d known forever. But I never thought it would be the reason he’d ignore me on a day like this—when I needed him most.

"Pick up the call!" I muttered through clenched teeth, forcing myself out of the wrecked car.

The accident could’ve killed me if I weren’t a wolf.

Voicemail again. That cold, automated voice repeating over and over: ‘The number you are trying to call is not reachable at the moment.’ He wasn’t there. He never was when it truly mattered.

"Luna! You’re bleeding..." A pack member’s voice startled me, her finger pointing at me.

Confusion clouded my mind. Bleeding? I hadn’t even noticed.

“Down,” she said softly, pointing toward my legs. And that’s when I saw it. The reality hit me like a punch to the gut. I had just lost my pup.

Before the shock could fully sink in, dizziness took over. Right there, in the middle of the road, my legs gave way, and I collapsed, consciousness slipping away.

When I woke up, I was more than heartbroken—I was done. I vowed to sever all ties with my unfaithful mate. But Vance wouldn’t let me go. He wanted to control everything, even now.

What I never expected was that the Moon Goddess had other plans—another mate waiting for me, someone who could make me whole again...

________

"I am sorry, Luna Kayla. If you had been brought back to the pack in time, we could have saved the baby. I am really sorry."

That was the pack doctor told me few hours after I managed to finally wake up. It was a big shock to me and I still haven't recovered from it.

How was I pregnant and didn't even realize it? How did I miss the signs? I only thought my recent sickness and all was as a result of being too stressed from trying to tend to pack duties but little did I know I had a child in me that I just lost.

Vance and I have been trying so hard to get a child and now that we finally succeeded, I failed to do what was right in keeping it. He was going to hate me so much and I wouldn't even blame him.

"Luna Kayla?"

The pack doctor snapped me out of my reverie and I had to force myself to look at him.

"Yes?" I said.

"I think you have a call."

My phone was beside me surprisingly and I didn't even realize until now. My head had so much in it that I forgot about it.

I picked up the phone to see that the call was from Vance. Oh my goodness. I immediately dreaded picking up the call. What was I going to tell him?

"I'll excuse you," the pack doctor said and I nodded while he stepped out of the office.

Eventually, I summoned the courage to pick up the call while I put the phone up in my ear to listen to what Vance had to say.

"What is it?" he asked in a tone that I wasn't sure whether to state he was angry or he was just being the usual Vance.

"Nothing," I said. "I was only calling to tell you—"

I stopped my sentence midway when I suddenly heard a familiar voice underneath the call. Yes, the same voice of the woman that I knew Vance has been cheating on me with.

"Do you still the coffee?" she asked him from underneath the call.

"Yes. Extra creamy, please," he told her in return in a sweet voice. He has not spoken like that to me in years. Then he spoke back to me, "What were you saying?"

"Nothing. Sorry for disturbing you."

And for the first time in ages, I ended the call myself.

My heart was in a million pieces. I just lost our child but my mate was out there being all sweet with his secretary. Couldn't he tell from my tone that I was hurt? What did I ever do to him in the first place?

I knew I had to do something about this. I have had it up to my limit. I cannot take it anymore.

So I picked up my phone again and decided to put a call through to someone that had the name 'Elder Jacobs'.

And when he picked up the call, I immediately said to him: "I accept your offer."
