Chapter 2

The Lycan King's territory sprawled across pristine wilderness, its towering spires visible from miles away. I'd driven through the night to reach the Royal Council chambers, my father's bloodline signet ring heavy in my palm. Twenty years had passed since I'd last used these connections, content to live as Thomas's Luna rather than claim my birthright. That contentment had cost me everything.

"Diana Harris," the Council Secretary announced as I entered the marble-lined chamber. "Daughter of the late Alpha King Marcus Harris, seeking audience with the Financial Council."

Five pairs of eyes assessed me with calculating interest. Elena Moonstone, the Council's senior advisor, leaned forward with recognition sparking in her gaze. "I remember you from the territorial accords fifteen years ago. You negotiated the Silvermoon-Redwood border agreement."

"Among other things." I kept my voice steady, professional. "I've come to offer my services to the Council. My experience managing inter-pack economics and alliance politics could prove valuable."

Councilor Reynolds, a grizzled Beta with shrewd eyes, shuffled through papers. "Your pack affiliations show you as Luna to Silvermoon Pack. Conflict of interest?"

The question hung in the air like a blade. I met his gaze without flinching. "My loyalty is to werewolf prosperity, not individual pack interests. I've spent fifteen years building bridges between territories. I know which alliances are genuine and which are built on deception."

Elena's lips curved in a knowing smile. "Show us."

For the next three hours, I laid out my knowledge like a master chess player revealing her strategy. Trade routes between northern packs that bypassed traditional territories. Financial irregularities in border expansion claims. The delicate balance of power that kept smaller packs from being absorbed by larger ones. I spoke with the authority of someone who'd spent years in diplomatic meetings, memorizing every detail that could matter.

"Impressive," Elena murmured when I finished. "We have an opening for a senior advisor position. Confidential access to territorial agreements, financial records, alliance documentation. Interested?"

My heart hammered against my ribs, but I kept my expression neutral. "What would my responsibilities include?"

"Reviewing pack expansion requests. Investigating territorial disputes. Ensuring compliance with Council regulations." Her eyes glinted with understanding. "Complete access to every major pack's records. Including Silvermoon."

Perfect.

Two days later, I sat in Joelle Harper's law office, surrounded by towers of legal documents and territorial maps. The Beta attorney had dark circles under her eyes from working through the night, but her expression was grimly satisfied.

"Your new position gave us everything we need," she said, sliding a thick folder across her desk. "Silvermoon Pack has been very busy expanding their borders."

I opened the file, my Alpha-trained memory immediately cataloging the violations. "Neutral rogue territories," I breathed. "He's been claiming abandoned lands without Council authorization."

"Gets better." Joelle flipped to another section. "Financial reports show inflated pack wealth to justify larger territorial claims. Look at these numbers—Thomas reported pack assets at nearly double their actual value."

The evidence was damning. Maps showing illegal boundary expansions. Financial documents proving deliberate misrepresentation. Communication records between Thomas and neighboring Alphas discussing territorial "arrangements" that violated Council regulations.

"How long has this been going on?" I asked, though I already suspected the answer.

"Five years. Started right after you negotiated that favorable trade agreement with Moonstone Pack." Joelle's voice carried bitter irony. "He used your diplomatic success to justify aggressive expansion, knowing your reputation would shield him from scrutiny."

My wolf snarled in my chest. Thomas hadn't just betrayed our mate bond—he'd weaponized my loyalty, using my political connections as cover for illegal activities. Every alliance I'd built, every diplomatic bridge I'd constructed, he'd exploited for his own gain.

"Can we prove intent to defraud?"

"Absolutely. And Diana?" Joelle's smile turned predatory. "Anonymous reporting to the Council is completely confidential. They'll never trace this back to you."

I spent the next week crafting my reports with surgical precision. Each document appeared to come from different sources—concerned neighboring packs, routine territorial surveys, financial audits. I buried the evidence in official Council channels, ensuring it would trigger automatic investigations.

The first call came on a Tuesday morning. Thomas's voice through our mate bond was tight with controlled panic.

*"The Council is investigating our eastern territories. Some bullshit about unauthorized expansion. I need you to use your connections, smooth this over."*

I was sitting in my new office, surrounded by the very files that would destroy him. *"What kind of investigation?"*

*"Border disputes. Redwood Pack is challenging our land claims, saying we exceeded authorized boundaries. Complete fabrication, but you know how these things escalate."*

I did know. I'd designed this escalation myself.

*"I'll see what I can do,"* I lied smoothly.

Within two weeks, formal challenges erupted across Silvermoon's borders. Neighboring packs that had quietly tolerated Thomas's expansion suddenly found their voices, armed with detailed evidence of violations. The Werewolf Council launched comprehensive territorial reviews, freezing all disputed lands pending investigation.

Thomas's empire began crumbling, one illegal acre at a time. And he had no idea his perfect Luna was orchestrating every devastating blow.
