Rejected Luna's Comeback Chapter 1

The sacred flames of the Moon Goddess Festival danced against the twilight sky, casting flickering shadows across the ceremonial grounds of Silver Crest Pack. I stood beside Evan, my mate of seven years, watching our pack members gather in reverent silence around the ancient altar. The autumn air carried the scent of burning sage and cedar, but underneath those familiar fragrances, something else lingered—something that made my wolf restless.

"You seem distracted tonight," I murmured to Evan, noting how his eyes kept darting toward the tree line instead of focusing on Elder Marcus as he began the opening prayers.

Evan's jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. "Just ensuring pack security. You know how important tonight is."

But his words felt hollow, rehearsed. Over the past month, he'd been disappearing for hours without explanation, claiming pack business that never seemed to materialize in any reports. His phone buzzed constantly with messages he'd quickly hide, and when I'd asked about the unfamiliar floral scent clinging to his clothes, he'd brushed off my concerns with irritation.

As the ceremony progressed, my unease deepened. The scent I'd been catching traces of for weeks was stronger tonight—vanilla and jasmine, definitely feminine, definitely not from our pack. My heightened Luna senses, a rare gift that had helped me support Evan's leadership for years, were screaming warnings I couldn't ignore.

"The Moon Goddess blesses those who honor the sacred bonds of mate-ship," Elder Marcus intoned, his weathered voice carrying across the gathering. "Tonight, we celebrate the divine connections that strengthen our pack."

The irony wasn't lost on me. I touched the mate mark on my neck unconsciously, the spot where Evan had claimed me seven years ago when my family's ancient bloodline had helped secure his Alpha position. Back then, I'd believed we were destined, that our bond would last forever.

Evan shifted beside me, and I caught him glancing toward the ceremonial altar again. This time, I followed his gaze.

My blood turned to ice.

Behind the sacred altar, partially hidden by the ancient oak that had witnessed countless mating ceremonies, two figures were locked in an intimate embrace. The moonlight illuminated them clearly—Evan's distinctive broad shoulders and dark hair, and a petite woman with auburn curls who definitely wasn't me.

But it was what she wore that made my world shatter completely.

Around her neck gleamed my grandmother's silver and moonstone necklace, the Edwards family heirloom that had been passed down through generations of Lunas. The necklace that was meant to be worn only by the true Luna of our pack. The necklace I'd entrusted to Evan for safekeeping just last week.

Azalea Hart. I recognized her now—an Omega from the neighboring Crescent Moon Pack. She'd been attending our inter-pack gatherings for months, always hovering at the edges, always watching Evan with those wide, innocent eyes.

My hands began to tremble as the pieces fell into place. The mysterious absences. The foreign scents. The way he'd grown distant and cold in our bed. The phone calls he'd take in private.

"Sarah?" someone whispered beside me, but their voice sounded like it was coming from underwater.

Rage, pure and burning, surged through my veins. Not just at the betrayal, but at the desecration. That necklace represented five generations of Edwards women who had led with dignity and strength. To see it adorning the neck of his... his whore... while she pressed herself against my mate behind the sacred altar of the Moon Goddess herself...

I was moving before conscious thought took hold.

"How dare you!" The words tore from my throat as I stormed toward the altar, my Luna aura flaring with such intensity that pack members instinctively stepped back. "How dare you defile the sacred grounds!"

Azalea gasped and stumbled backward, her hand flying to the stolen necklace. Evan spun around, his face cycling through shock, guilt, and then hardening into something I'd never seen before—cold calculation.

"Sarah, stop," he commanded, but I was beyond stopping.

"That necklace belongs to the Luna of this pack!" I snarled, lunging for Azalea. "You have no right—"

My claws extended as my wolf pushed forward, and I raked them across Azalea's shoulder, tearing the delicate fabric of her dress and leaving thin lines of blood. She screamed and fell to her knees, clutching the necklace protectively.

"ENOUGH!" Evan's Alpha tone slammed into me like a physical blow, forcing me to my knees beside his mistress. The power in his voice was absolute, commanding, designed to make me submit.

But what came next was worse than any physical pain.

"I, Evan Edwards, Alpha of Silver Crest Pack," his voice rang out across the stunned gathering, formal and final, "reject you, Sarah Edwards, as my mate and Luna."

The words hit me like silver bullets to the chest. Around us, the entire pack had gone deathly silent, their faces reflecting horror and disbelief.

"I choose Azalea Hart as my mate," Evan continued, his hand moving protectively to Azalea's shoulder. "She will be the Luna this pack deserves."

The sacred flames seemed to flicker in response to his words, and I felt something fundamental tear inside my chest—not just my heart, but the very bond that had connected us for seven years.
