He cheated, and I forgave him.

All my friends said, after ten years, if it ends now, it would have been a waste. My mom echoed, reminding me they couldn't keep worrying about me forever.

So, when he got down on his knees and apologized in front of family and friends, I forgave him. But at night, when he tried to touch me, I couldn’t stop myself and ended up throwing up.

Miles's face froze for a moment, then turned pale. Watching me dry heave by the toilet, he reached out to help me up.

"Eve..."

But the moment he touched me, it felt like an electric jolt, and I jerked back, standing up abruptly.

The sudden movement startled us both. The atmosphere was tense, and after a couple of seconds, I turned away to explain.

"It's nothing. You should get some sleep; I'm just feeling a bit off."

I took the tissue from his hand and forced a polite smile. "Thanks."

His face went even paler, his eyes flickering with what seemed like a realization. He started moving as he spoke.

"I'll make you some oatmeal, okay? Your stomach's always been sensitive."

He didn’t really give me a chance to refuse. By the time he finished speaking, he was already on his way to the kitchen.

I was left standing in the bathroom, clutching the tissue. My stomach churned with acid and a sharp ache, but all I felt was a chill.

It was an untimely reminder: today marked thirty-six days since Miles cheated.

And the first day I forgave him.
