Chapter 2

In the past, I always replied to all her messages in seconds, but this time, she waited for a long time without getting my reply.

I couldn't help but feel ironic as I watched her furiously voice me.

Molly had no idea how a dead person could respond to her.

Seeing that I hadn't answered the voice message for a long time, Molly's face became gloomy, and then she sent me a text message.

"Justin, don't make trouble out of nothing! Bruce didn't hold you accountable even though he fell from the building because of you. Don't take advantage of the situation. Come over and apologize to him properly, otherwise we will break up!"

Molly angrily tapped on her phone, her expression full of disgust and impatience.

I really wanted to laugh. For so many years, Bruce had always been high up in her heart, always a gentleman. No matter how well I treated her, I was always a small-minded and unreasonable person.

I had nothing that could compare to her good neighbor.

But Molly was not like this before. When she was in college, her adoptive parents only gave her a small amount of living expenses. It was I worked three jobs a day to support her.

I ate instant noodles for three months and saved money to buy her favorite brand-name bag for her on her birthday.

Her adoptive parents asked her to pay back the 500,000 dollars it cost to raise her for twenty years, otherwise they would ruin her good job and expose her on the internet for not supporting her parents.

It was I who took out all my savings and sold the house that my parents prepared for me at a low price to help her get rid of her adoptive parents.

At that time she told everyone that I was her salvation, that I was a light in her life, and that she was willing to do anything for me, the light, even if it cost her life.

But now, I was just a stumbling block in her career, a burden to her.

I accompanied her on this inspection of the unfinished building. I knew that those unfinished buildings didn't have doors and windows.

My worries were worthless in her eyes, and in the end, it turned into me insisting on bringing her and Bruce to inspect this unfinished building, ultimately causing Bruce to fall and get injured.

When I heard Molly wanted me to go back immediately to apologize to Bruce, I felt a chill run through my body. If she received the news that her useless husband had died at this moment, I was afraid she would probably be happy and celebrate.

After all, with me dead, there would no longer be anyone to stand in the way of her and Bruce, and they could be together openly and honestly.

Even if she didn't get a reply from me, Molly didn't worry about my safety at all. Instead, she settled down at Bruce's house without any guilt. It was obvious that she didn't care about my death at all.

Right now, she was probably only worried that there was no one to take care of Bruce and it would affect his recovery.

At first, Bruce pretended to refuse, afraid that I would be angry until he heard Molly's words.

"You are my best friend and I treat you like a brother. If Justin causes trouble with me because I take care of you, then he is being unreasonable."

Bruce held Molly's hand and gently caressed it.

"Molly, Justin never liked me being close to you. I'm just afraid of causing trouble for you."

He looked at Molly with eyes full of tenderness. My soul was floating one meter away from them. I wished I could appear immediately and end him with one strike.

But I was just a soul, and they couldn't see me, nor could they feel my existence. It was pathetic.

"Bruce, you always consider me. If only Justin thought about me like you do."

Molly's eyes were full of loneliness.

"If Justin doesn't apologize to you when he comes back this time, I will divorce him. Anyway, after so many years, I should have paid him back a long time ago."

When I heard Molly's words, I felt even more heartbroken. Was she waiting for me to go back and apologize to Bruce? Would she divorce me if I didn't apologize? I was afraid she would never wait for it in her lifetime.

After all, I was already dead long ago, and my corpse was starting to rot.

Molly used the excuse of taking care of Bruce at night to sleep in the same bedroom with him.

I watched Molly fuss over him, cook for him, feed him medicine, wipe his body, and even help him undo his belt when Bruce needed to go to the bathroom. I felt very uncomfortable.

She had never treated me like this. I used to do the housework and cook at home because Molly said doing the housework would make her hands rough and cooking would make her look old.

Even when I was hospitalized for appendicitis surgery last time, let alone feeding me medicine and wiping my body, Molly didn't even pour me a glass of water.

I suddenly felt shocked that I couldn't compare to her childhood neighbor, her partner.

It was only when Molly carefully fed Bruce the soup spoon by spoon that I understood.

In my relationship with Molly, I was nothing. I was just a tool for her to call upon and dismiss. Bruce was her true love.

Bruce drank the soup without any guilt, his eyes full of tenderness.

"Molly, I remember when you were young, you were always beaten by Aunt Jane and she wouldn't let you eat. At that time, you were so thin. I always stole chicken legs from home for you to eat."

Molly seemed to be reminded of memories.

"Yes, at that time, you were the only one who cared about me and treated me well."

"If it weren't for you, I would have starved to death and wouldn't be who I am now."

Listening to Molly's words, I felt sadness in my heart.

It was Bruce who saved her by giving her the chicken leg. I sold the house at a low price and used up all my savings to help her get rid of her parents. But my love was as worthless as I was.

I just couldn't figure out why Molly married me when she didn't love me or appreciate me!

Even if I died, my heart was still deeply hurt by her.
