The Wife He Discarded Owns His Empire
Chapter 2
“I’m sorry for not being able to give you a complete family,” I whispered, my throat tight.
I leaned against the locked bedroom door, one hand resting light over my stomach, the doctor’s positive‑test slip folded tight inside my coat pocket. My voice was soft, only for the little life growing inside me.
“He doesn’t even want us. But don’t worry. I won’t let anyone hurt you. I’ll find us somewhere safe, somewhere we can start over.”
I’d spent two years quietly gathering things no one knew about: industry contacts, hidden financial records, notes on every weak spot in the Voss empire. Kael and his mother thought I was only a quiet, replaceable wife, but… they had no idea I’d built a network of people who owed me favors.
That power was mine, and I wouldn’t reveal it to them now, not when they were already pushing me out the door.
I dragged my suitcase out from under the wardrobe and packed quickly.
I left every expensive gown and jewellery the Vosses had given me behind; those were never mine to keep.
Outside the window, the sky had faded to pale grey; sunrise was near, just as Kael had ordered.
I slipped down the narrow side staircase, stepping carefully to stay quiet.
The main halls were strangely empty; the usual night guards and house‑maids were nowhere to be seen. I reached the side exit and stepped onto the damp stone path, where I’d arranged for a taxi to pick me up.
Instead, a large black SUV idled there, its headlights blazing straight into my eyes.
My heart pounded, but convinced myself to stay calm. Before I could turn to another end, two men in dark suits stepped out. One grabbed my suitcase, the other clamped a firm, unyielding grip around my upper arm.
“Let go of me!” I struggled, digging my heels into the wet pavement.
The man closest to me leaned in, his voice low and cold, meant only for my ears. “Boss Voss, said you should rest in peace,” he said, his voice cold sending chills to my skin.
My chest went tight, my breath became uneven..They weren’t just sending me away, they were getting rid of me for good.
They hauled me into the back seat and slammed the door shut.
“How much is he offering you! I'll pay double!”
They ignored me and lurched the car forward, so hard I was thrown sideways, my head slamming against the metal frame.
Sharp pain burst behind my eyes. My hand flew instinctively to my stomach, panic rising fast.
“Please…”
I tried to whisper another promise to my baby, telling them I was sorry, that I’d tried my best but my vision began to blur, edges turning dark and fuzzy. My body felt heavy, like it was slipping away from me, and slowly, everything went black.
Harsh white light burned my eyes. My head throbbed with every beat of my heart, my limbs sore and stiff. I followed the sound of a beam close by. I was in the… hospital.
Relief washed over me.
But… I lifted a hand to my stomach. It felt wrong, hollow, empty in a way I couldn’t describe.
A nurse stepped quietly into the room, her face sombre. “How are you feeling Ma'am,” she said and sat beside the bed.
“My… baby…” I muttered. My hands were shaking.
My chest felt tight for no reason, followed by hot tears streaming down my cheeks.
Then she said what I feared most. “Unfortunately, you lost it in a car crash.”
I stared at her for a while,
I shook my head. “No,” I curled in on myself, grief settling heavy in my bones.
All the plans I’d made, every promise I’d whispered to my little one… all gone?
“Ma'am… please don't let it get to you. You still need to recover.” The nurse said.
My lips trembled. “It’s because of the Voss family.” I muttered.
“Ma'am?”
“Kael killed his own child!”
“Doctor!’ she said and ran out.
“I'll make them pay.” I whispered bitterly.
Did he think he'll walk away unscathed?
He made a mistake by not making sure I was dead.
I placed both hands on my stomach. “I'll take your revenge, my child.”
