Chapter 3

When we got married, Felix said he was from the rural area, so I agreed that he wouldn't have to spend a lot of money on the wedding.

After all, I had enough money.

My mother gave me two houses, a car, and half a million dollars, but Felix spent less than a third of what my mother gave me. I didn't know why I agreed to it then, and I had put up with it, but now I just thought Felix and Carolyn were disgusting.

"This house was obviously bought by Felix after he worked hard for it!"

I thought, "It's ridiculous. With Felix's skills, how much money can he make?"

Carolyn felt proud when she spoke, but she should have known who she was.

"Really? How about you ask your son to take out the property license and see whose name is exactly written on it?

"As his mother, aren't you aware of how much money your son will make in a year?"

I said that for a reason. Later, I learned that Felix would give Carolyn at least half of his paycheck of four thousand dollars every month.

No wonder Felix only ate very cheap food, and he only drank wine that was discounted by 99%.

I folded my arms, looked condescendingly at Carolyn, and said, "What's the matter? Are you sure you want to stay here?"

"Why can't I stay here? My son bought this house."

Carolyn was protecting Felix while still arguing with me.

I felt dizzy from Carolyn's loud noise. "Fine, you can stay here, and I'll leave."

I was speechless as I watched Carolyn give a horrified smile as I intended to leave voluntarily.

There was no way I was leaving, and I just didn't want to be in a house with two disgusting guys.

As I went back to my room and simply packed my things, I took my wallet and called a cab on the way.

Ten minutes later, I was standing at the intersection waiting for the online car.

My cell phone kept ringing with messages from Felix, even when he said something threatening.

Felix: [If you leave today, don't come back.]

It was a nice try. I called the property management company and explained the situation to them. I informed them that I wanted to sell the house, and the staff knew me. After all, this was an upscale community, and they didn't want to neglect every owner.

I hung up the phone with satisfaction when I heard them promise to be there tomorrow morning to do an appraisal on the house.

The car just arrived.

I had a detached villa in Hamilton Garden that my mother bought for me. At that time, Felix and I were in a relationship, and my parents were strongly against it, but I was already under an obsession of it. My mother was worried about me, so she bought me two houses and a car, and told me to come home if I got aggrieved.

When the online car pulled up in front of the villa area, and I paid, I suddenly saw an unread message in WhatsApp.

I couldn't believe it was my boss who sent me the message.

He asked me when I was going to be done having babies.

I had never met the president of my company. At that time, I had a project in hand that I needed him to sign for, so I asked my department manager, Daniel Cooper, to give me his WhatsApp account. We hadn't talked to each other since then.

I didn't reply to his message. Immediately afterward, he asked when he was coming back to work.

In truth, I could go back to work now, and I took my vacation because Felix kept urging me to. He said he was afraid I would be too tired, so he told me to stay home and enjoy myself, but I didn't realize that he looked like a different person after only the past three months.

So I quickly typed on my cell phone screen.

Joanna: [Tomorrow.]

I was bored at home. Anyway, there were still seven months to give birth, so it didn't matter.

Since it was my first day at work after my maternity leave, I woke up especially early to put on my makeup.

I seldom dressed up after I got married because Felix said cosmetics were bad for a woman's skin, especially after I got pregnant.

I didn't doubt it, and Felix threw out all my makeup at home afterward.

I ordered this set of cosmetics last night, and they were delivered temporarily.

I looked at the woman in the mirror as if I had gone back to the time when I was gorgeous, and I was still as pretty as ever.

When I arrived at work the next day, I went straight to my position.

"Joanna, you can stay here from now on. It's too noisy over there, and the boss said he was afraid it would affect you."

Daniel took me to my new office personally, and I expressed my gratitude to him. When I first arrived, he took me to familiarize with the company, make proposals, and change the planning.

The new office was situated in the south, facing the north. Moreover, the decoration inside was simple yet elegant, and I was very satisfied with it. I had the opportunity to change my office before, but I turned it down at that time in order to spend more time with Felix.

Now that I thought about it, I felt that I was too careless and gave up the job I love for a man.

"By the way, the boss said he would buy you dinner after work today, so you should wait for him at the office for a while."
