Chapter 2

Bob looked at me in disbelief, "You're not getting married?"

He sneered.

"Winnie, as a woman who only stays at home all day and does housework, do you think anyone else would want you besides me?"

I suddenly remembered a long time ago, when I had just got a pay rise and my monthly salary finally exceeded 2 thousand, while Bob's salary was less than half of mine. When I shared this good news with him, he seemed a bit unhappy.

But that night, he clung to me and made a promise, "Winnie, when we get married, you can quit your job. I don’t want you to work so hard. You just need to stay at home and I will support you."

At that time, I felt he loved me so much and believed him.

But now, I realized the reason he wanted me to quit my job was because one day he could degrade me and make me feel worthless, just like he was doing now.

If I had really been idle at home for the past six months, maybe he would have succeeded in manipulating me. But unfortunately, I had been studying and improving every day. I knew that I was not a useless person.

I was far superior to Bob.

I pointed to the door, "Whether I can get married is none of your business! Just get out of here. The lease for this house is under my name and I pay the rent. I have the temporary right to use this house. Don't force me to call the police."

Bob looked disdainful. He got up from the bed and left with only a coat.

"I will leave. Winnie, don't cry and beg me to come back later."

I stood up straight and watched him leave. After the door closed, I couldn't help but want to cry.

I wasted my seven years on such a scumbag.

At this time, my phone vibrated, and Bob's mother sent another message.

[Winnie, if you continue to be so unreasonable, then I won’t agree to your marriage.]

I stared at that message for a long time and suddenly laughed.

It was indeed sad that I wasted my time on such a scumbag, but it was not a bad thing to see the true face of this family before getting married.

One year, Bob's mother got sick, and Bob suddenly became very busy with work during that time, saying that he couldn't spare any time. After explaining the situation to my leader, I stayed in her hospital room every day with my computer and took care of her while working.

I took care of her without any complaints, but now all I got was her accusing me of being unreasonable.

I typed with the force of wanting to poke through the screen.

[Although all you said is nonsense, you have something right. I won’t marry your son.]

Bob's mother was probably waiting for my reply, so she immediately replied.

[Winnie! What attitude do you have towards elders?! You really don't want to marry into our family!]

[Bob has no car and no house. What's the big advantage of marrying into your family?]

[Bob has a house!]

I frowned in confusion. Over the years, half of what we earned was used as living expenses and the other half was saved. At that time, he opened the account and he would give me a screenshot of the balance every month after depositing the money in.

How could he have money to buy a house?

In my contemplation, Bob's mother withdrew that message and sent another one.

[You have no job, and you are short. If it weren't for the many years of relationship between you and my son, I wouldn't let him marry you! With your conditions, it’s your honor to marry Bob!]

Before, I respected her as Bob's mother, and I would tolerate her occasional unpleasant words. But now, I couldn’t tolerate it at all.

[Bob is not outstanding at all! I'm not tall, but what's so great about your 5.5 feet tall Bob? After all these years, he is now paid less than I was when I first graduated. If it isn't for the years of relationship between him and me, with his conditions, even if he kneels and begs me, I won't even look at him!]

Bob's mother must had be furious, so she directly called me. I answered the call without any fear. Her angry voice came through.

I fought back against the scumbag and his evil mother.

"Winnie! If you hadn’t dated Bob in college and affected his studies, how come my son couldn't find a job after graduation?!"

I sneered, "I was also dating at that time, how come I wasn’t affected? And, back then, it was your son who relentlessly pursued me for a year, and I reluctantly agreed."

"How dare you say that? Wasn't it you who seduced my son? I raised him all by myself and worked hard to support him through college. If it weren't for you, the bitch, he would have been successful long ago."

I was so angry that I didn’t know how to answer her.

I had been living upright for so many years and this was the first time someone had called me a bitch.

Now I had experienced the feeling of a scholar meeting a soldier. It was really difficult to reason with this kind of person because she had her own set of principles in her world.

After Cathy finished scolding, she continued to shout, "Son, you can’t marry her! Come back tomorrow. Let's cancel this marriage!

She thought that Bob and I were together.

I was lost in thought. I knew Bob well. If he was going to his mother's house, he would definitely send her a message as soon as he left.

But obviously, Cathy didn’t know that Bob and I had broken up. It seemed that Bob had no intention of going home. It was so late, he only took a jacket and didn't bring his ID. Where could he go?

Bob was not well-liked, and as far as I knew, he didn’t have many friends in LA who would take him in. Before today, I might not have thought much about it, but now my intuition told me that Bob was likely to cheat on me a long time ago.

Cathy was still shouting. I found it annoying, so I hung up the call directly and blacklisted her number.
