Chapter 2

My hand kept caressing her waist and Samantha's breathing started to become erratic.

She melted her body onto me and then whispered in my ears, "Hubby, I want to have a baby with you."

My hands froze in a heartbeat.

A child?

Three years ago, Samantha was indeed pregnant with our child. The child was overdue by several days, so I drove Samantha to the hospital in a hurry and got into an accident on the way there.

I fell into a coma for two weeks and when I finally woke up, I only saw Samantha sitting by my bedside.

She told me the baby had been severely injured and died in the womb. It had to be removed.

At that time, her body was still very weak and her eyes were red from crying, but she still tirelessly cared for me and I was deeply moved by her dedication.

When I remembered this, I felt an overwhelming sadness. Samantha stood by me through those tough times. So, why did she cheat on me now when things started to become stable?

Was it because I couldn’t satisfy her needs and made her live like a widow?

I gently pushed her away and said, "Samantha, I'm tired. I need a shower."

When I came out of the bathroom, I heard hushed voices from the study.

I wheeled myself closer and heard Samantha say to the other party, "I've tried, but it's not working. If we wait any longer, it will be too late."

"I don't care. You need to act quickly, or we can't keep this baby."

What? Was Samantha pregnant?

No wonder she suddenly talked about wanting a child. She not only cheated on me but wanted me to raise Walter's baby!

The next morning, Samantha left for the company as usual after breakfast.

Shortly after she had gone, the private detective sent me a report. In the report, it was shown that Samantha did not know Walter before the accident. They only met after I regained consciousness.

As for the time they started to have an affair was still not discovered for the time being. However, the detective found out that three years ago, Samantha registered several shell companies under the name Margaret Cameron.

She had been gradually transferring assets from our company to these shell companies, building them up over time.

I suspected she was hollowing out my company, but why use the name Margaret? And who was she?

Wait! Margaret? Maggie! This was the name Walter called out. So, Maggie was a nickname for Margaret.

The investigator then sent me some old newspaper clippings from a few years ago. They were news about a police raid that cracked down on a trafficking ring and rescued women and children.

There were photos of the rescued victims. Among the group of rescued young girls, an image of a girl I was familiar with was circled in red.

The girl's name was Margaret. She looked exactly like Samantha. She stood out among the other frightened and raged girls with her clean state and elegant demeanor like a swan.

I read the article over and over and learned that these girls were rescued from a place called Fortville Village.

When I messaged the detective to dig into this matter a lot more with a hefty sum of money as a reward, he was still unsure whether he wanted to do that or not.

His reasoning was that Fortville Village was a dangerous place and their people were tough and hard to crack. If they got the wind that he was on to them, his life might be in danger.

This was much worse than I originally thought.

For the past three years, Samantha had free rein in every aspect of my life. I trusted her so much that I had lost contact with my own people.

Only now did I realize that she managed to isolate me. Once her plan was complete, she could easily discard me and I would not stand a chance.

No! I couldn’t let that happen. I had to reclaim what was originally mine.

As I racked my brain for a plan, the masked woman’s profile picture suddenly blinked.

She sent me a photo of a man and a message, "Mark Steven is in Borderline Detention Centre and will be released in two days. Use him."
