Chapter 2

The clearing did not return to normal after the king left.

Silence clung to the air like a heavy fog.

Seraphina was still kneeling on the ground, her hands pressed into the dirt as she tried to steady her breathing. The strange pain that had surged through her body moments earlier was slowly fading, but the echo of it remained deep inside her chest.

Something had happened.

Something she could not understand.

Around her, the wolves of the Crescent Moon pack slowly lifted their heads after bowing to the royal presence. Whispered conversations immediately began spreading through the crowd.

“The king defended her.”

“Why would he protect an omega?”

“Did you see the way he looked at her?”

Seraphina heard every word.

Her ears felt unusually sharp, picking up even the smallest murmurs.

She swallowed hard and pushed herself to her feet.

The Alpha of the pack was staring at her with a dark expression. His jaw was tight, and the anger in his eyes had not disappeared even though the king had stopped the punishment.

Lyra stood beside him with her arms crossed.

Her expression was not shocked like the others.

It was calculating.

Seraphina lowered her gaze quickly.

“I did not steal the herbs,” she whispered again.

The Alpha did not respond.

For a moment he seemed to be weighing something in his mind.

Then he finally spoke.

“The king may have spared you today,” he said coldly. “But that does not erase your crime.”

A murmur of agreement moved through the crowd.

Seraphina felt her stomach twist.

“I swear I did not take them.”

Lyra suddenly stepped forward.

“Father,” she said sweetly, placing a hand on the Alpha’s arm. “Perhaps the omega simply made a mistake.”

Her eyes slid toward Seraphina.

“After all, she is not very intelligent.”

A few wolves laughed quietly.

Lyra continued speaking in a thoughtful tone.

“The ceremony begins tonight. It would be inconvenient to cause chaos right before such an important event. Why not deal with her after the celebration?”

The Alpha studied Seraphina for a long moment.

Finally he nodded once.

“Very well.”

Relief almost made Seraphina collapse.

“But you will remain under watch,” the Alpha continued sharply. “If you try to run, the punishment will be far worse.”

Seraphina lowered her head again.

“Yes Alpha.”

The crowd slowly began dispersing as preparations for the ceremony resumed.

But the looks people gave Seraphina had changed.

Curiosity.

Suspicion.

Fear.

She felt their eyes following her as she picked up the basket of herbs from the ground.

The silver herbs Lyra had planted inside were gone.

Someone must have taken them during the commotion.

Seraphina quietly carried the basket toward the healer’s house.

Her hands were shaking.

She could not stop replaying the moment the king had looked at her.

The intensity of his gaze had made her chest tighten in a way she had never felt before.

And that strange heat that had surged through her body when he arrived.

What was that?

Seraphina pushed the thought away.

Things like that did not happen to omegas.

Inside the healer’s small house, the old woman looked up as Seraphina entered.

“You are late,” she muttered.

Seraphina quickly began sorting the herbs.

“I was stopped in the clearing.”

The healer snorted.

“Of course you were. The whole pack is gossiping about it.”

Seraphina froze.

“They are?”

The healer studied her carefully.

“You truly do not understand what happened, do you?”

Seraphina shook her head slowly.

The old woman leaned back in her chair.

“When the king arrived, every wolf in the clearing felt it,” she said quietly. “The moment his scent filled the air.”

Seraphina nodded.

She had felt it too.

But it had been more than just sensing a powerful Alpha.

It had been something deeper.

Something that had pulled at her from inside.

The healer narrowed her eyes.

“You reacted strangely.”

Seraphina’s heart skipped.

“I did?”

“For a moment your scent changed.”

Seraphina stared at her.

“What do you mean?”

The healer hesitated.

Then she waved a hand dismissively.

“Perhaps I imagined it.”

Seraphina did not feel reassured.

Her chest tightened again as she remembered the sudden pain that had rushed through her body.

The strange heat.

The wild sensation that something inside her had tried to rise to the surface.

She finished arranging the herbs and quickly left the healer’s house.

Outside, the pack territory buzzed with excitement as the sun began lowering in the sky.

Torches were being placed around the clearing.

Tables were filled with food and drinks.

Music would begin soon.

The coming of age ceremony would start at moonrise.

Seraphina kept to the edges of the territory, cleaning and carrying supplies wherever she was ordered to go.

But the entire time she could feel something watching her.

By the time night fell, the clearing was full.

Every wolf in the pack had gathered for the ceremony.

A large bonfire burned at the center of the clearing, sending golden sparks into the night sky.

Seraphina stood near the back with the other servants.

Her job was simple.

Refill drinks.

Clear empty plates.

Remain invisible.

But it was impossible to ignore the powerful presence sitting at the high table.

King Kael.

He sat beside the Alpha of the pack, surrounded by his royal warriors.

Even in a crowd of powerful wolves, he stood out.

His dark hair caught the firelight, and his golden eyes seemed to glow like molten metal.

Seraphina tried not to look at him.

Yet every time she passed near the table while carrying drinks, she felt his gaze flicker toward her.

Each time it happened, the strange warmth returned to her chest.

The ceremony finally began when the moon rose high above the forest.

Young wolves stepped forward one by one to declare their adulthood and celebrate their strength.

Some discovered their mates.

Others did not.

The crowd cheered and laughed as the night continued.

Seraphina was clearing empty cups when Lyra suddenly appeared in front of her.

“Enjoying the celebration?” Lyra asked softly.

Seraphina lowered her gaze.

“I am working.”

Lyra leaned closer.

“Tell me something.”

Her voice dropped to a whisper.

“What did the king say to you earlier?”

Seraphina blinked.

“He only told them to release me.”

Lyra’s eyes darkened slightly.

“That is all?”

“Yes.”

Lyra studied her face carefully as if searching for a lie.

Then she smiled again.

“You are very lucky.”

Before Seraphina could respond, a loud voice called Lyra’s name.

A powerful young warrior stepped forward into the clearing.

He was tall and broad shouldered, his presence commanding attention immediately.

The Alpha’s son.

Lyra’s future mate.

The crowd cheered loudly.

Lyra turned toward the clearing with a proud smile.

“Watch carefully omega,” she said quietly before walking away. “You might learn what a real Luna looks like.”

Seraphina stepped back into the shadows.

As the ceremony continued, the strange restless feeling inside her chest grew stronger.

She could not explain it.

It was as if the night itself was building toward something.

Something inevitable.

Across the clearing, King Kael watched her again.

His expression remained calm, but inside his mind his wolf was still uneasy.

The scent he had felt earlier had not disappeared.

It clung faintly to the omega moving through the crowd.

Wolf.

Witch.

Vampire.

An impossible combination.

Kael’s instincts told him claiming her immediately would be dangerous.

Not just for him.

For the entire world.

So he had walked away.

But the bond between them had already formed.

And bonds like that could not be ignored forever.

As the moon climbed higher in the sky, Seraphina suddenly felt another sharp pulse of pain run through her veins.

Her hand tightened around the tray she was carrying.

Something inside her was changing.

And this time it was stronger than before.

Far stronger.

Deep inside her blood, the ancient power of the tribrid was beginning to stir again.
