The Heart that Loved Him For Eight Years Turned to Ashes
Chapter 2
I held back my emotions that were on the verge of breaking down.
"If you really think the necklace can be shared with another women, then come and get it tomorrow. I'm tired today."
"I'll go get it tonight. I'm afraid it'll be too late tomorrow."
Charles hung up the phone in a hurry when I lose my thought.
Just a second ago, I had fantasized that he was anxious to find me because he was worried about me.
I'm so cheap.
Tears streamed down my face.
The phone I had just bought also fell to the ground in a daze.
With a crisp sound, the screen shattered.
Just like our broken love.
I lay prone on the sofa and burst into tears.
For my youth, for the so-called love I didn't deserve in the past eight years.
I cried so hard that I fell asleep unconsciously.
It was not until I was woken up by the sound of rummaging in the bedroom.
I struggled to get up and walked into the bedroom.
Charles paused for a moment when he was looking for something.
"I saw you asleep when I came in, so I didn't want to wake you up."
I didn't answer him. I took out the necklace from the cabinet and handed it to him without saying a word.
"Give it to her."
Charles was stunned at first, but then he snorted.
"In the past, if I gave your things to Flora, I was afraid that you would do everything to stop me. Why did you suddenly become so sensible today? What are you thinking about?"
I was weak, but I showed him a n indifferent expression on my face.
"Do you think I have the strength or the mind to play tricks on you in my current state?"
Charles glared at me as if I was in an unreasonable manner.
He snatched the necklace from my hand and walked out.
"That's for the best. If you were half as considerate and sensible as Flora, we wouldn't have quarreled every day."
With a bang of the door, Charles left.
He went to look for his childhood sweetheart to please her.
What a joke. He was like me in front of Flora.
He was like a puppy that tried its best to make its beloved happy every day.
I, Who never drank, fell asleep again after getting drunk.
The next morning, a series of urgent ringtone woke me up.
I looked at the number. It was my boss, Aidan.
"Siybl, you should have come back to work after your vacation today, right? Why haven't you arrived at the company yet?"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Blake. I wanted to take another day off today. I overslept..."
"Do you still remember that I told you to go to the Pacific Region to expand a new market?"
Half a year ago, Mr. Blake thought that I was capable and wanted me to be the general manager of the Pacific Region Branch.
However, the office was in New Zealand. I carefully mentioned it to Charles, but he immediately rejected it.
There was no reason in that he couldn't accept a long-distance relationship, let alone abroad.
If I decided to go New Zealand, we would break up.
At that time, I refused Mr. Blake without hesitation and chose to stay with Charles.
"I remember. Didn't you send Daniel there later? Why..."
"Alas, Daniel died of a illness yesterday, which really caught me off guard. After thinking about the current situation, only you have the ability to operate the branch company."
To be honest, I was very regretful to have given up this opportunity to be the general manager of a branch.
In the past six months, I didn't make much progress in the company's headquarters.
I didn't expect to have a second chance now. I would not miss it again.
"Okay, Mr. Blake. I'm willing to take it over. I'll go to the company and talk with you in detail right away."
Mr. Blake gave me a lot of document about the Pacific Region about the past six months.
I burned myself at it with all my heart, planning to get there as soon as possible.
After a busy day at home, I was startled by a figure on the sofa.
"You're back? Why didn't you turn on the light."
I turned on the light and saw Charles's dull expression.
"Why didn't you reply to my message? Why didn't you answer my phone call."
"Oh, I've been busy all day. My new phone fell on the ground and it didn't work."
Charles was silent for a while with an uneasy expression on his face.
"Well... That day, I took Flora through the woods and met a traveller who was driving. Flora's face was scratched by a branch. I was afraid that there would be a scar in her face if the wound could not be dealt with in time, so..."
"So you took her back to the city with by that traveler's car overnight and left me alone in the deep mountains filled with fog?"
I was in so much pain. The wound in his childhood sweetheart's face was more important than my life!
"Well... after returning to the city, I heard that the rescue team had set off, and I couldn't get through to you, so I..."
I tried my best to hold back my tears and smiled to him.
"Aren't you attending the jewelry exhibition with Flora? It's rare for you to be in the mood to care about me."
Charles looked a little embarrassed.
"We have attended that exhibition."
"Isn't there a banquet? Flora posted it on her Ins just now. In the photo, she was holding your arm. It's so sweet. Go and accompany her."
I said that calmly, but for some reason, Charles flew into a rage from embarrassment.
"Sibyl! Are you kidding me? You're always talking about Flora and me! Didn't I tell you that I only treat her as my younger sister!"
Charles grabbed my arm and blew a heavy breath on my face.
I shook off Charles's hand, but my expression was still calm.
"Well, I trust you. I'm tired, so I'll go to sleep first. By the way, I'll sleep on the sofa. I haven't cleaned up the room yet. If you want to live here today, you could clean your room."
After that, I pulled off the blanket on the sofa and lay down, closing my eyes.
I heard Charles swear, rush into the room angrily, and close the door.
Perhaps, my silence and calmness had caused his anger to lose its sense of accomplishment.
