For ten years, Monica Gerta harbored a secret, forbidden passion for Mylo Francis. But her world shatters at his engagement party when his fiancée publicly reads Monica's private love letter aloud. Exposed and utterly humiliated, Monica becomes the laughingstock of the high-society guests, who condemn her feelings for her "uncle." To make matters worse, Mylo himself tears the letter to pieces before the crowd, coldly sneering and questioning if she could ever be worthy of his love.

Ten Years of Dreamlike Separation Chapter 1

In the tenth year since I fell in love with Mylo Francis, his fiancée read aloud the love letter I had written to him at the engagement party.

My secrets were exposed suddenly, and I was at a loss as if I had been stripped naked.

The guests present mocked me in every way, blaming me for liking my uncle.

Mylo's face darkened, and he then tore up my love letter in public.

Looking me up and down, he sneered, "Monica Gerta, do you think you are worthy of liking me?"

I burned all the photos of Mylo and me from childhood to adulthood that night.

As everything was burning to ashes, I made a phone call.

"Samson, I'm willing to go to Alsatan with you to work as a doctor without borders."

——

The man on the other end of the phone was delighted.

"That's great! Monica, I thought you would reject me before, considering that you're such a homesick person.

"But I need to remind you in advance. You can't come back for a long time after that. Also, its communication conditions are relatively poor, so you won't be able to contact your family. Do your family members agree?

"Especially Mylo who loves you so much. He probably won't let you go to such a place."

Thinking of his insults during the day, I felt upset and forced myself to answer, "It's okay, Samson. Don't worry. He also agrees."

Samson exclaimed with a smile, "That's rare."

After the call was hung up, I saw the wallpaper image of the phone screen.

It was that I took the photo of Mylo secretly.

Other photos were burned, and it was the last photo I had of him.

In the picture, Mylo, wearing a suit and the pink teddy bear apron I bought for him, stood in the kitchen and made soup for me.

Every time I had my period, I would feel painful.

Therefore, Mylo used to make soup for me every month.

At first, I was too ashamed to let him know it.

However, he was firm. "I'm your uncle. Is there anything you can't let me know?

"What I should do most in my life is to take good care of you."

However, since he got a girlfriend, I hadn't drunk the soup he cooked for a long time.

On the contrary, I saw that he often cooked for his girlfriend on her Facebook.

What I longed for was actually within the reach of others.

With that in mind, I deleted the photo on my phone as well.

Only in this way were the memories with Mylo cleared.

Although Mylo was my uncle, we were not related by blood.

Our two families had been on good terms with each other for generations. After my parents died in a car accident, the Francis family adopted me.

They were originally planning to immigrate and even had completed all the formalities.

But because I was determined not to go abroad, Mylo finally decided to stay with me.

Back then, the eighteen-year-old boy promised his parents, "I will take good care of Monica."

He indeed took good care of me.

After losing my parents, I was afraid of the dark and strangers.

Mylo would turn on the night light to watch over me as I slept every night. Also, he never allowed any strangers to disturb me.

He was always guarding me, cheering me up gradually.

Considering that I liked teddy bears, he would buy one and bring it back for me every time he went to a new place.

He even prepared a room for me to display the dolls.

The teddy bears all over the wall showed how attentive he was.

I knew that Mylo had sacrificed a lot for me.

The Francis family's assets had long been transferred abroad, and he was left alone in the country, starting almost from scratch.

But no matter how late he returned home, he would come to coax me to sleep every night.

Sometimes he was drunk, but he was still telling fairy tales.

Everyone knew that I was the person Mylo loved the most.

I also thought that I should be the most special person in his heart.

Thus, on the day I turned eighteen, I took the courage to kiss him.

At that time, he was making a birthday cake for me. I stared at his face and kissed him uncontrollably.

Unexpectedly, the light kiss made Mylo furious.

He pushed me away. "Monica, are you crazy? I'm your uncle!"

I fell to the ground, and my knee was bruised and bleeding, but Mylo just ignored it.

My heart was beating fast, but I still refused to give in. "You are not my uncle. We don't have the same last name!"

Mylo frowned.

He smashed the almost-formed cake with one punch and said to me with a sullen face. "Listen, Monica, I'm ten years older than you, and I raised you. You are just acting on impulse and mistake it for love."

"No!" I protested loudly.

"I'm an adult now. I know what love is.

"It's true that you raised me, but Mylo, I know I love you!"

I confessed my love to him but did not get a response from him.

Instead, his face became darker and darker. "You are crazy!"

Before Mylo slammed the door and left, he warned me, "Calm down for a while. If you can't figure it out, just move out of the villa!"

That day, Mylo didn't celebrate my birthday.

It was also the first time that I fell asleep alone in so many years.

I opened my eyes in the dark night, feeling fear and sad.

I didn't understand what I did wrong.
