Chapter 3

Revenge is not about rage; it’s about patience. It’s about precision. And my first step was simple—control.

I let the pain settle, shaping it into something sharper. Something cold. I would not lash out. I would not give them the satisfaction of seeing me broken.

Instead, I smiled.

I walked through the pack as if my world had not been shattered, as if my heart was not bleeding out with every breath. I held my head high, met Kieran’s gaze without a flicker of emotion, and laughed at things that weren’t funny.

I saw the way his jaw clenched, the flicker of uncertainty in his eyes. He had expected me to fall apart, to grieve. But I hadn't.

And that unsettled him.

Maia, however, was less composed. She noticed the way Kieran still looked at me—not with love, but with something close to confusion. As if he was trying to figure out why I wasn’t shattered.

She was beginning to realize that I was not going to be defeated easily, I wouldn’t back down without a fight.

And that terrified her.

A word of advice from me—The real art of revenge is never in the obvious—it’s in the subtle.

A glance held too long. A touch that lingers just enough to be noticed. A laugh that makes someone question if they are the joke.

I started small.

At the gathering, I walked past Kieran, my fingers grazing his wrist lightly, just a second too long. Just enough for Maia to see.

He flinched. Maia stiffened.

I leaned closer, my voice soft but deliberate. “Kieran.”

Nothing more. Just his name, spoken in a way that made Maia’s spine go rigid.

Then I walked away.

It wasn’t a grand gesture. I didn't scream any accusations or confronted them violently. It was just a whisper. A small whisper that planted a seed planted deep within her mind.

She would start watching him closer. Start doubting him. Wondering if he still thought of me.

And that was all I needed.

A few days later, I left something in their room. A small, meaningless thing—but not to Kieran.

A charm bracelet. The one he had given me a year ago, back when he swore I was his forever.

I placed it carefully on Maia’s pillow.

The next morning, she stormed into the training grounds, her face pale, her eyes filled with something wild. Kieran followed, looking equally tense.

“Seraphina,” Maia said, her voice clipped, controlled. “Why was this in my room?”

She held up the bracelet.

I tilted my head, feigning surprise. “Oh? I haven’t seen that in ages.”

I saw the flicker of uncertainty in Kieran’s gaze. He knew me well enough to realize what I was doing—but he couldn’t call me out on it without making himself look guilty.

Maia, however, was unraveling.

“You left it there on purpose,” she accused.

I smiled, slow and knowing. “Maia, if I wanted something from Kieran, don’t you think I’d just take it?”

A lie wrapped in truth. And she knew it.

She looked at Kieran then, searching for reassurance. But he hesitated. And that hesitation was all I needed.

Doubt is a powerful weapon. And I had just carved the first crack in their perfect little world

The days passed, and I continued my game. Not aggressively. Not openly. But with every calculated move, I wove myself deeper into their thoughts.

Maia started watching Kieran more closely. Second-guessing his words. Wondering if he still had feelings for me.

Kieran started avoiding my gaze, which only made him seem guiltier.

The pack whispered. They noticed the tension. The way Maia clung to Kieran a little too tightly. The way Kieran seemed distant, distracted.

And me?

I thrived in their destruction.

I trained harder, pushed myself further, let the pack see my strength. I let them wonder.

Because I wasn’t the broken girl they had expected.

I was something else entirely.

And when I finally struck for real…

They would never see it coming.

The training grounds had become my sanctuary.

Every strike, every pivot, every controlled breath was a defiance against the weakness they expected from me. They wanted me broken, humiliated, forgotten. But I wouldn’t give them that satisfaction. Not Kieran. Not Maia. Not anyone in this damned pack who had watched my betrayal unfold and done nothing.

The scent of the evening air was crisp, laced with pine and the faint metallic tang of my own sweat. My muscles burned from the relentless drills, but I welcomed the pain. It was real. It was mine. Unlike the love I had once believed in.

I stepped back, wiping sweat from my brow, my body humming with exhaustion. The training dummies around me bore the brunt of my rage—splintered wood, slashed fabric, and the unmistakable scent of wolfbane that clung to my claws. A part of me knew I should stop, but stopping meant thinking. Thinking meant remembering. Remembering meant pain.

Then I felt it.
