Rejected by the Alpha, Moon Ceremony Betrayal Chapter 1

The ceremonial preparation hall buzzed with excited energy as seamstresses fluttered around me like devoted butterflies. The annual Moon Ceremony was only three days away, and the pristine white dress they'd crafted for me hung like a cloud of silk and moonbeams against the ornate wooden frame.

"Miss Bella, you look absolutely radiant," gushed Mrs. Henderson, the head seamstress, as she adjusted the delicate silver embroidery along the bodice. "Alpha Anakin will be so proud to have you as his Luna."

I forced a smile, though something twisted uncomfortably in my chest. Lyra, my wolf, had been restless all morning, pacing anxiously in the back of my mind. *Something feels wrong,* she whispered, but I pushed her concerns aside. This was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of my life—the final preparations before I would officially become Luna of the Silvercrest Pack.

The heavy oak doors suddenly swung open, and Hope James glided in like she owned the place. Her honey-blonde hair cascaded perfectly over her shoulders, and she clutched a bottle of deep red wine against her chest, her lips curved in what I'd learned to recognize as her signature fake smile.

"Bella!" she exclaimed, her voice dripping with manufactured sweetness. "I just had to come see you in your gorgeous dress. And I brought wine to toast your upcoming Luna ceremony!"

Every instinct I possessed screamed danger. Hope had never shown me genuine kindness in the three years I'd lived in Silvercrest territory. But the seamstresses beamed at her apparent thoughtfulness, and I couldn't voice my suspicions without seeming paranoid.

"That's very thoughtful of you, Hope," I managed, though Lyra snarled in the depths of my mind.

Hope moved closer, the wine bottle swaying slightly in her grip. "I'm just so excited for you, Bella. You've worked so hard to be the perfect mate for our Alpha." Her green eyes glittered with something that made my skin crawl. "Here, let me just get a better look at this stunning dress."

She stepped forward, and everything seemed to happen in slow motion. Her foot caught on absolutely nothing, her body lurching toward me with theatrical clumsiness. The wine bottle flew from her hands, its contents arcing through the air like a crimson curse.

The red wine hit my dress with a splash that echoed through the sudden silence. Dark stains bloomed across the pristine white fabric like blood on snow, spreading and seeping into every delicate thread. The silver embroidery disappeared beneath the growing crimson tide.

"Oh no!" Hope gasped, pressing her hands to her mouth in mock horror. "Bella, I'm so sorry! It was an accident—I must have tripped!"

But I had seen the calculated gleam in her eyes the moment before she "fell." I had seen the deliberate way she'd angled the bottle. This was no accident.

"You did that on purpose," I said, my voice shaking with barely contained rage. The seamstresses gasped, their faces pale with shock.

Hope's eyes immediately filled with crocodile tears. "How can you say that? I would never—I was just trying to celebrate with you!" She turned to the seamstresses, her voice breaking with feigned hurt. "I don't know why she's being so cruel to me. I was only trying to be kind."

"Hope, I saw exactly what you did," I pressed, feeling Lyra's fury rising to match my own. "You deliberately—"

"What's going on here?"

Anakin's commanding voice cut through the tension like a blade. He strode into the room, his brown eyes immediately taking in the scene—me in my ruined dress, Hope with tears streaming down her face, and the wine-soaked floor between us.

"Alpha," Hope sobbed, rushing to his side. "I brought wine to celebrate Bella's ceremony, but I accidentally tripped and spilled it on her dress. Now she's accusing me of doing it on purpose! I would never hurt her—she's going to be our Luna!"

Anakin's gaze moved between us, and I saw the exact moment he made his choice. His expression hardened as he looked at me, disappointment and irritation clear in his features.

"Bella, this is exactly the kind of petty female drama I can't stand," he said coldly. "Hope came here to honor you, and you're attacking her over an obvious accident?"

The words hit me like physical blows. "Anakin, she did this deliberately. I saw—"

"Enough." His Alpha tone slammed into me, designed to force submission. "I won't have my mate behaving like a jealous child. Hope, since you still have a proper dress and won't cause unnecessary conflict, perhaps you should take Bella's place at the ceremony."

The preparation hall fell silent except for Hope's sniffles. Every eye was on me, watching my humiliation unfold. The seamstresses looked mortified, Hope's tears magically dried up, and Anakin stood there like a judge who'd just delivered my sentence.

Something inside me snapped.

For three years, I had suppressed everything I was for this man. I had dimmed my light, silenced my wolf, and made myself small so he could feel big. I had swallowed every slight, every dismissal, every moment he chose someone else over me.

No more.

Lyra roared to life inside me, her silver fire burning away three years of forced submission. My suppressed Alpha blood surged through my veins like liquid lightning. For the first time since I'd arrived in Silvercrest territory, I let my eyes blaze their true Alpha gold.

The power that radiated from me made everyone in the room step back, even Anakin.

"I, Bella Murphy," I declared, my voice ringing with the authority I'd hidden for so long, "reject you, Anakin Rogers, as my chosen mate."

The words hung in the air like a death sentence. Anakin's face went white, then red, his mouth opening and closing like a fish gasping for air. Hope's fake tears stopped entirely, her face twisting with shock and rage.

The bond between us shattered like glass, sending shockwaves of pain through both our bodies. But I welcomed the agony—it meant I was finally free.
