Chapter 4

In response, Noah made a frown.

"That night was special. Yvette said someone was stalking her. She was scared walking home alone. So, I went to check on her!"

"Didn’t you say she’s a girlboss? Why would a girlboss be scared of being followed?"

My angry roar made his face twist with frustration.

"And another thing, the last time I was out of town for your birthday, I came back and saw you two hugging and kissing in the VIP room of that restaurant. Did you think I was dead?"

Noah froze for a moment, then quickly shouted back, "Who’s spreading lies like that? That never happened!"

I didn’t waste my breath arguing. Instead, I grabbed my phone and tossed it to him.

"Look for yourself! Yvette posted the video online! Don’t you dare tell me you didn’t know!"

Noah’s jaw dropped. Then, he scratched his head hard. He looked really mad.

"Enough already! Why are you acting crazy like this? If you were even half as understanding as Yvette, I wouldn’t be fighting with you right now!"

"Evelyn, listen carefully. You need to apologize to Yvette! If you don’t, I won’t marry you. There will be no groom at tomorrow’s wedding and I’d love to see how your family explains that to everyone!"

Once he shouted all of that, his phone rang. Noah’s whole tone changed in an instant. His voice became soft and gentle.

"Where are you? Don’t be scared. I’ll come to you right away."

I clearly saw the name flashing on his screen. Yvette. Without another word, he slammed the door and stormed out.

A little while later, one of Noah’s friends sent me a video. Yvette was sitting alone at the bar, drinking.

Then, Noah showed up and wrapped his arm around her. Before long, they were kissing. Right after, Yvette herself sent me a few photos of them kissing passionately.

Along with the photos, she added a teasing message.

[Oops, I accidentally sent this to the wrong person, Evelyn. You don’t mind, do you?]

I rolled my eyes and blocked her number without replying. Without further ado, I started packing up Noah’s things, planning to throw them all out. On his bedside table was a small locked box. I forced it open and found a letter inside. It was handwritten letters between Noah and Yvette.

Noah had written something.

[If Evelyn weren’t so rich, I couldn’t stand her!]

And Yvette’s response made my blood run cold.

[Noah, if I stole the bride away, would you come with me?]

Noah’s reply was even worse.

[Of course I would! But I haven’t gotten the money from the Arrows Family yet. Yvette, please just wait a bit longer… ]

I finally found out that Noah wasn’t marrying me out of love, but he was marrying me for money. If that was the reason, he would take out as much as money he could. Not long after that, my parents called to check in about the wedding rehearsal.

I told them everything went smoothly, except for one little change.

"The groom needs to be replaced. Put in the guy who’s been chasing me since we were kids, the one who always called me ‘sister.’"

Since Noah had his precious childhood female friend whom he considered his ‘big sister,’ I also had my own childhood friend whom I considered my ‘little brother.’ The next morning, I sat at the hotel to get my bridal makeup done.

Noah walked in and placed his hands on my shoulders, smiling smugly.

"Evelyn, it looks like you’ve finally come to your senses. Yvette was nice enough to let us marry today, so you can apologize to her tomorrow."

He leaned closer, lowering his voice, "By the way, didn’t you buy that limited-edition Chanel bag last month? Give it to me as an apology gift."

I slowly looked up at him.
