Hoping to comfort her terminally ill grandmother, she plans a wedding to let her see her in a bridal gown. However, the groom, Kenny Brewer, disappears entirely on their wedding day, leaving her frantic calls unanswered. The devastating reason for his abandonment is revealed late at night when Kenny's ex-girlfriend, Serena Payne, shares a social media post boasting that he remains her dedicated guardian angel who grants her every whim.

Shattered Dreams: Moving On From an Ex's Betrayal Chapter 1

My grandmother was gravely ill. Before she passed away, she wanted to see me in a wedding dress.

But on the day of the wedding, my fiancé, Kenny Brewer, vanished.

I called him countless times and sent countless messages, but there was no response.

Late at night, his ex-girlfriend, Serena Payne, posted an update on Instagram.

She posted: [He is my eternal guardian angel. Whatever I want, he will give it to me.]

The picture was of their marriage certificate from that day.

My grandmother passed away with regret, not having seen me in a wedding dress.

I was determined to leave him. Kenny, however, begged me, his face full of remorse.

However, at that time, his apologies and regret no longer mattered to me.

With a broken heart, I said to Kenny Brewer, "Let's break up!"

I rushed from the wedding venue to the hospital and then to the funeral home. Along the way, I felt as helpless and numb as a puppet.

After everything was over, I returned home, clutching my grandmother's portrait.

It was then that I realized I no longer had any family in this world.

I crouched on the floor and wept uncontrollably.

The person who had promised to take care of me for life hadn't called or sent me a single message in three days.

I pulled out my phone and stared blankly at Instagram.

Kenny's childhood friend, Serena Payne, updated her Instagram frequently.

The night our wedding was canceled, she posted their marriage certificate, with Kenny's name prominently displayed in the groom's section.

Her caption read: [He is my eternal guardian angel. Whatever I want, he will give it to me.

Now, I'm a married woman!]

The day my grandmother was pushed into the crematorium, Serena posted a picture of her collarbone covered in kiss marks.

Her caption read: [He says the scent on my body fascinates him.]

Today, the day of my grandmother's burial, she updated her Instagram again with a picture of them cuddling while watching the sunrise.

Her caption read: [Our love transcends life and death and will never change.]

A sharp pain pierced my heart.

Kenny and I were from two different worlds.

When I was thirteen, my father drowned while trying to save Kenny, who had fallen into the water.

The Brewer family was deeply grateful to us. They said, "Without your father, our family would have fallen apart!"

On the day of my father's funeral, Kenny made a promise in front of my father's grave.

He said, "Rest assured, I will take care of Alyson for the rest of her life and not let her suffer any grievances."

My mother missed my father too much. After seeing that my future was secured, she took her own life by overdosing right after the funeral.

Because of Kenny, I lost my parents, lost my home, and became an orphan with no one but my grandmother.

Over the years, Kenny and his family did indeed take good care of me.

Kenny was attentive and caring. Under their care, I gradually emerged from my grief. I thought I would build a warm home with him.

But after our engagement, the girl Kenny once liked, Serena, returned.

Since then, he always went to her place.

"Serena has a headache, so I need to check on her."

"Serena's toilet is clogged, so I have to help her fix it."

Even on our dates, he would often bring her along.

"Serena is too lonely by herself. Bringing her along makes it more lively."

At first, when I cried out of grievance, he would patiently comfort me, assuring me there was nothing between them.

But as time passed, he grew tired of comforting me.

"Fine, you can believe whatever you want!

"Alyson, don't be too greedy. Your father's death can get you a place by my side. You should be grateful and cherish this opportunity. Don't keep picking fights, and don't expect to control me!"

Hearing his words, I suddenly realized that his tolerance and care for me were only out of guilt and gratitude, not love.

I was not someone who would cling to a relationship, but then my grandmother was suddenly diagnosed with cancer.

She wanted to see Kenny and me walk down the aisle. She said that only then could she leave in peace.

I begged Kenny, "My grandmother doesn't have much time left. Her last wish is to see us married."

Kenny agreed, but on the day of the wedding, he disappeared and married Serena instead.

During his disappearance, I called him from someone else's phone.

"Kenny, my grandmother is dying. Can you come back for a moment?

"Kenny, I beg you, my grandmother is really about to pass away. She just wants to see us one last time."

However, Kenny remained indifferent, coldly saying, "If she's going to die, let her die quickly. Stop using your grandmother to threaten me!"

On her deathbed, my grandmother tightly held my hand and said, "Alyson, I can't die in peace without seeing you marry Kenny. I can't die. I have to wait..."

My grandmother never got to see Kenny. She kept looking toward the door until her last breath. She passed away with regret.
