Chapter 2

Valerie's POV

Everything happened so fast.

He killed four innocent women to prevent them from knowing his place. They brought us to his private land intentionally without telling us the consequences of coming here, so they caught those four girls unaware, and they died in his merciless hands.

I face my reflection in the mirror, not appreciating the simple wedding dress they gave me after signing the contract. I will be his surrogate and fake wife for 365 days, and if I fail to do what he desires, I will be executed. His merciless green eyes can fool any innocent woman, and I don't blame those four women.

They were blinded by the promise money but ended up dying. The door opened, causing me to turn to the person who opened it, and I was surprised to see the man with glasses. I didn't know his name yet because he was nonchalant and seemed uninterested in talking to ladies.

“It's time.”

“I—” I wouldn't be able to finish my word when he turns around while I'm still talking.

I sighed before standing up, heading out of my room, and marching down the stairs. The mansion had two floors, but it was massive. I followed the man, who led me to the living room where Mason and the judge were waiting.

“Congratulations!” Dominic whispered, and I almost jumped in shock. He walked towards Mason and stood next to him.

I stepped on my feet, walking closer to him before halting an inch away from his location. Mason offered his arm for me, so I looked at him and was hesitant to accept it. But I eventually accepted it, and we stood in the open space in the living room as our wedding hall.

My white wedding dress was under the knees with a small ribbon at the waist, and it was sleeveless. I tie my hair up and use lipstick to cover my pale lips. We face the judge, preparing for our rush wedding under contract.

“Can I ask a question before we start?” I inquired.

He glanced at me, “What is it?”

“Do we really have to get married for real?” I asked.

Dominic chuckled, “You wouldn't ask that question after meeting his stepmother.”

“Dominic,” he warned him with his serious tone, but Dominic wasn't scared and kept grinning at me. “Enough with questions. That's my first rule: I don't like curious people.”

I furrowed. But this is my first time asking a question. Is he stupid?

I shake that thought off and face the judge who will wed us. We have Dominic and this unknown man as witnesses of our civil wedding.

“We have come here today to formalize the union of Mason Gray and Valerie Moore, who wish to be legally joined and committed in matrimony. Let your love sustain you and help you grow as individuals,” the judge began before opening his book. The informant looked at him, “Do you, Mason Gray, take Valerie Moore to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold, in sickness and health, in good times and not so good times, for richer or poorer, keeping yourself unto her for as long as you both shall live?”

“I do,” he simply replied.

He faced me, “Do you, Valerie Moore, take Mason Gray to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold, in sickness and health, in good times and not so good times, for richer or poorer, keeping yourself unto him for as long as you both shall live?”

I take a deep breath and answer, “I do…”

“Mason Gray, you may now share your vows.”

Mason faced me with no emotions in his eyes, staring at my eyes intently, “Today, I promise you that no matter how much the world changes and how much we evolve with it, I will always love you, always treasure you, and share everything I have with you.”

“Valerie,” he called my name. The judge beckoned me and said, “Please, recite your vows.”

“Marriage bridges two shores, binding us together as one unbroken path, on which I vow never to deviate, never to falter, and to always be by your side…” I murmured.

“A ring is an unbroken circle, with ends that have been joined together, representing your union. It is a symbol of infinity and of your infinite love.,” he stated before turning his eyes on Mason. “Mason, place your ring on Valerie’s finger and repeat after me.”

Mason took the ring from Dominic and placed it on my finger before repeating the judge's words, “I give you this ring as a symbol of my love, my faith in our strength together, and my pledge to learn and grow with you.”

I did the same. I put the ring on his finger and said, “I give you this ring to show how much I love you. I'm thrilled to call you my partner and spend the rest of our lives together…”

“I pronounce you married! You may now kiss your bride.”

I lifted my head, and our eyes met. He touched my cheek and rubbed my lips with his thumb before moving his face closer, and our lips collided. It was a fast kiss, and after that, Dominic applauded in joy.

“Congratulations! Husband and wife!” He congratulated us. Dominic put his arm on my shoulder and said, “Are you ready for the honeymoon?”

I widened, “What? Now?”

“Of course,” the man stated.

I turned to him, “Uh, you are?”

“That's Sean Wilson, and I am Dominic Ross. We are Mason's best friends, his right and left-hand man. Tonight will be your first night with Mason, and we're expecting you to give your best talent.”

I removed his arm on my shoulder and replied, “What's with the rush?”

“Do you want me to explain the contract, or should I leave you wondering because you didn't read it?” Mason spoke, and his manly voice filled the room. I swirl my head to him, seeing that he's already sitting on the couch without me noticing it.

“You signed the contract, we married, and then we had our honeymoon. After that, we will upgrade your wardrobe.”

I looked at myself and questioned, “What's wrong with me?”

Dominic chuckled, “Why don't you head upstairs? Go to the room on the right, and you'll find everything you need inside.”

“I'll join you after five minutes, and you better be ready, Mrs. Valerie Gray. This is going to be a long night,” Mason murmured.
