Saving First Love, Losing Myself
Chapter 3
Orville seemed to want to confirm something. He walked to the position above my head and reached out to lift the sterile cloth.
Then, he saw a face with swollen eyes and three deep and wide cuts on my cheeks. The skin of my face around those wounds had everted and had not been stitched up yet.
Orville's wrinkled brow relaxed. As if he felt that he was overthinking, he shook his head slightly.
Then, he replied, "Nothing. Continue."
Seeing this, I laughed at myself. Looking at the wounds on my face, I suddenly felt like those were the marks of me loving the wrong man.
Orville skillfully performed the surgery. The two babies were taken out one after another, but they were all purple and had no breath.
Orville said, "The fetuses should have suffocated long ago, and the car accident caused external injuries to them. Declare their death."
I shook my head in disbelief, and a heart-wrenching pain came from inside my chest. I shouted at Orville.
"No! They are your babies. Save them! Why give up?
"It's all your fault. Why didn't you believe me? Why did you go to help her cat deliver? Why didn't you take care of your wife and babies?"
But no matter how I tried to stop them and shout, no one responded to me.
I stared at Orville with bloodshot eyes, which were full of hatred.
Orville had already taken off his rubber gloves and was walking out.
While walking, he asked as usual, "What's the patient's name?"
"Juliana Glenn."
When Orville heard this name, his breath suddenly stopped, and he somehow felt suffocated. Then, he asked again to confirm something.
"What's the patient's name again?"
