At thirty years old, carrying twins is a high-risk ordeal. When her water breaks prematurely, the ultimate betrayal strikes. Her husband, Orville Ryder—an experienced gynecologist—is completely unreachable. Instead, he is occupied assisting his intern's cat through labor. When confronted with her emergency, Orville dismisses her pain, accusing her of petty jealousy for comparing herself and their unborn babies to a pet.

Saving First Love, Losing Myself Chapter 1

I, who was 30 years old and pregnant with twins, was a high-risk pregnant woman. One day, my water broke, and I needed to deliver the baby prematurely.

But my husband, Orville Ryder, who was an experienced gynecologist, was helping his intern's cat give birth at that time.

Orville even scolded me for being jealous.

"Do you really have to compare yourself and your baby with a cat?"

Later, I and our babies died on the operating table in front of Orville's eyes.

Orville held my cold body, feeling desperate and heartbroken.

"This is not true. You're lying to me, right?"

It was raining heavily outside. Suddenly, I heard a crash of thunder, which sounded so close to me.

While I was startled, I felt a warm flow on my thigh.

My belly also started to harden. I panicked and immediately dialed Orville's number.

When I thought that my third try was about to fail, Orville finally picked up the phone, and his voice sounded.

"Shirley Glenn, are you done? I told you that if you don't answer your call, then I must be busy dealing with my patients."

I directly ignored his impatient tone and spoke to him anxiously.

"Orville, it seems like I'm about to give birth. Can you come back and take me to the hospital?"

After hearing my words, Orville asked about my symptoms. He was not as worried as I had thought. Instead, he became even more impatient.

"You are only seven months pregnant. How could you give birth now? Increased vaginal discharge in the late stage of pregnancy is normal. Just lie down and rest."

I started to have uterine contractions and felt hurt in my belly. At this time, I heard Teresa Barth's anxious voice on the phone.

"Dr. Ryder, Snow seems to be in a lot of discomfort. What should we do?"

I didn't have the mood to question Orville because I found that a puddle of water had already gathered on the floor.

I asked impatiently, "What are you doing? Can you come back now?"

Orville hesitated for a moment. Unexpectedly, Teresa spoke up first.

"Shirley, stop joking around. You had a prenatal examination, and the report shows that everything is normal, isn't it? But Snow is in a really urgent situation now. That's why I asked Dr. Ryder for help. Please don't misunderstand. After this is over, I will treat you and Dr. Ryder to a meal, okay?"

Teresa's words made Orville directly conclude that I was being unreasonable, and he yelled at me.

"Shirley, you just want to find ways to make me go back. If you really need to give birth now, you can call 911, and the ambulance will take you to the hospital. I am in a critical situation here and don't have time to play along with you."

I said, "I called 911, but the command center said the weather was bad. Most of the ambulances were sent out for a major car accident at a highway intersection. Now, there is only one ambulance waiting in line. Orville, I'm not lying."

Orville remained silent for a while before reluctantly agreeing to come back and send me to the hospital.

Before hanging up, he said to me, "You better be telling the truth. I don't want to spend my whole life with someone who loves to lie and be jealous."

The phone was hung up, and my heart sank.

It turned out that this was how Orville thought about me in his heart.

Snow was Teresa's pet cat. I had seen that cat before on Teresa's Instagram.

I didn't expect that my babies and I were not as important as a cat in Orville's heart.

Orville was an experienced gynecologist. But now, all he worried about was Teresa's cat or Teresa.

He forgot that his 30-year-old wife was already a high-risk pregnant woman with twins, and premature birth in the seventh month was very possible.

An hour had passed, and there were already signs of bleeding. However, my husband, Orville, had still not come back.

I called Orville again, but it was Teresa who answered.

I directly asked, "Where is Orville? Has he come back?"

Teresa replied, "Shirley, Dr. Ryder is in surgery and can't answer the phone. If you have something, just tell me."

"Really? Is he a veterinarian? His own children are about to be born, yet he is performing surgery on a cat."

But Teresa actually started crying on the phone.

"How can you say that? The life of a cat is also a life. Shirley, you can't be so cruel. Snow is as important to me as my child in my heart. You can't be jealous of a cat, okay? Besides, you don't sound like you're about to give birth now."

When I heard Teresa instigating discord, I couldn't help but shout at the phone.

"Shut up! Let Orville talk to me..."
