Chapter 1

Miles Wright's first love, Faith Green, announces that she's leaving the country on the day he's supposed to marry me. She claims he'll never see her again.

He ignores her and continues with our wedding. Even later, when the plane crashes and leaves Faith's body mangled and broken, he merely says coldly, "It was written in her fate."

Miles only reveals his true colors after he uses me to become Wright Group's CEO. He moves into a monastery under the guise of wanting to repent for his sins. He has a rosary with him at all times and turns into a man renowned in the city for his piousness and kindness.

Meanwhile, he forces me to kneel before Faith's gravestone every night. He also makes me pray and chant for her in atonement.

I climb up a long staircase every day so I can pray for her well-being.

Finally, I'm tormented to the point of miscarriage, and I die on a snowy winter night.

Fortunately, the heavens were kind enough to bring me back to my wedding day. This time, I'm not making the same mistake.

If Miles, an illegitimate son, thinks he can use me as a stepping stone, he's wrong! He's not worthy of that!

"Willow, I'm going to give Faith a call. Then, we can proceed with the wedding, okay?" said a familiar voice. That voice jolted me out of the horror of my tragic death, and I soon found myself reborn on my wedding day.

I turned to look at Miles Wright, who was impeccably dressed, and asked in a rather uncertain tone, "What did you just say?"

Miles frowned slightly as his eyes landed on me. I hadn't even said anything untoward when he began to reprimand me lowly.

"Stop being so jealous! Faith missed her SATs to save my mom. I promised to marry her, but I broke that promise just to be with you.

"Now that she's leaving, I just want to call her to say goodbye. Can't you respect that?"

My heart sank upon hearing his words.

He had always sided with Faith in my last life. He would constantly use this same excuse while doing so. At the time, I understood that a life debt was a huge deal, and that was why I never fussed about it.

However, that didn't mean he was going to shackle me down with moral obligations in this life! Besides, I honestly wasn't even sure whether Faith was actually his mother's savior or that he was just using this excuse to placate me.

So, I squashed the anger in my heart into a ball as I forced myself to straighten his collar before saying with a smile, "You've misunderstood me. I just think that you should see her off at the airport yourself since she's your mother's savior.

"After all, there's still some time before the wedding begins. You should go while you still can. I'll talk to our parents about this."

Miles was slightly taken aback by my response. It seemed that he didn't expect me to be so agreeable. He hugged me tightly and murmured, utterly touched, "I knew you'd understand."

Then, he promptly left without another word. The smile on my face faded as soon as he was gone.

I turned to look at myself in the mirror. I was wearing a custom-made wedding dress designed by a Caeloran luxury brand. The diamonds used on the dress alone were worth millions.

The jewelry I was currently wearing was even designed by Odron's royal jeweler, and it was worth billions. I was born into wealth. Yet, I got myself ensnared by a lowly and filthy man in my last life.

I was truly an abject failure!

Regardless, I could change things in this new life. Not only would I not fall for the same pitfalls, but I would also ensure that lunatic Miles would pay a thousandfold for doing wrong by me!

Just as my mind was whirring with a vengeance, the door behind me swung open with a creak. My brother, Alder Moore, inquired, "Willow, the wedding's about to start. Why did that dickhead leave?"

My heart trembled upon hearing his familiar voice, and I instinctively dashed to him, embracing him tightly.

In my last life, my brother, who wanted to help drive Cassius—the eldest scion of the Wrights and my initial fiancé—away, chose to fully support Miles in the fight for Wright Group's inheritance. But Miles orchestrated a car accident and caused my brother to suffer a broken leg.

Later, he became deeply traumatized by our parents' passing and eventually had a mental breakdown. My brother had been the most promising scion in Dorei. Yet, he was sent to the mental asylum to be tormented to his death.

I had visited him once before my passing. Although he had lost his sanity, he still comforted me in his brief moment of clarity, saying, "Willow, don't blame yourself. None of us has ever blamed you."

I promptly broke down in tears as I recalled just how my misguided love had ruined him and our parents.

Alder pressed on with alarm, "What's wrong? Why are you crying? Did he hurt you?"

I nodded as I choked out, "Alder, he's gone to look for his true love."

Alder roared in anger, "What? How dare he leave you at the altar!"

Then, he wiped my tears and rebuked me with a huff, "Don't get me wrong. You're a great person, but you do have lousy taste in men."

I nodded once more. "You're right, but I've figured it all out now. Alder, I no longer want to get married."

Alder scrutinized me suspiciously. "Are you being serious, or are you just saying this in a fit of anger?"

He knew just how much I had loved Miles for the past four years. That was why he couldn't bring himself to trust my decision.

He only relaxed when I gave him a solemn nod. Then, he drawled, "You've finally come to your senses and made the right decision. I'll look for our parents and tell them that the wedding's off."

I shook my head and replied, "No, the wedding must be called off. However, we won't be the ones doing so."

Then, I leaned in and whispered into my brother's ear.

He looked at me with surprise before bursting into hearty laughter and saying with delight, "You clever girl. If only you'd been smarter in the past, then he wouldn't have been able to play you like a fiddle."

Alder left with a grin on his face.

Once he was gone, I sent Faith a text, saying, "Ms. Green, I hear you're leaving the country. Thank you for leaving, and I wish you a safe journey."

With that done, I promptly texted Miles, "Do come back soon. I'll wait for you."

Miles replied with a simple, "Okay."

Meanwhile, I knew that he wouldn't be able to make it back before the ceremony started. Faith couldn't handle the slightest provocation. So, when she received my message, she would do her damnedest to keep Miles by her side.

Half an hour later, the guests started to whisper among themselves as the ceremony had yet to begin. In the meantime, Miles' father, Julian Wright, had been calling Miles over and over upon learning that he had gone to the airport. He had to do all that while trying to salvage the already crumbling situation.

Unfortunately, all Julian got for his efforts was the news headline of Miles' heartfelt confession to Faith at the airport.
