Chapter 2

Julian could no longer remain calm after that. He noticed the dark expressions on my family's faces and hastily said to me, "Willow, don't worry.

"The Wrights would only ever accept you as our daughter-in-law. I will bar Miles from bringing unworthy people before me."

My parents' faces were beyond thunderous at this point. My father didn't hesitate to retort, "Julian, my daughter has been treated poorly. What makes you think I would ever allow her to marry that illegitimate son of yours after this?"

Julian hurriedly apologized. After all, my family had been working with the Wrights for years. So, he would much rather give up on Miles than dare to offend the Moores, who were important business partners.

Nevertheless, he pleaded with me to give it another hour, and I reluctantly agreed. Alas, all we got out of it was news of Miles proposing to Faith. The guests in attendance burst into whispered discussion, openly disparaging Miles' irresponsible behavior.

Julian's face was red from embarrassment. Finally, he had no choice but to announce that the wedding was off and offered various compensations to placate my family.

Just as we were about to leave, Miles and Faith entered the venue hand in hand.

Everyone stopped in their tracks as they watched Miles stride confidently toward me. They all assumed that he was here to apologize. Yet, no one expected that Miles would slap me hard across the face in public.

My ears rang, and I felt dizzy as my vision turned spotty. I clutched my cheek and turned to look at his arrogant face.

My heart turned to stone when I felt a malicious aura radiating from him. I knew right then that the Miles standing before me wasn't the 26-year-old Miles. Instead, he was the Miles from my past life who had achieved success and could easily crush me like an ant.

Miles had also been given a chance to be reborn!

Still, it was evident that he wasn't quite used to his current identity after returning from his past life. He looked at me, and his gaze was filled with contempt and disgust before coldly ordering, "Grovel and apologize to Faith!"

Before I could get a word in edgewise, Alder rushed over and kicked him away from me.

As Miles was holding Faith, she, too, fell to the ground and cried out in pain.

Miles ignored the pain and immediately held her in his arms, asking in concern, "Faith, are you okay?"

As I watched this scene unfold before me, I couldn't help but recall how he used to be so anxious and caring whenever I got even the slightest bruise, the way he would hold me close and worry about me. I felt my heart twist in pain at the sight.

It seemed that whatever affection he had expressed toward me had all been an act. There was no sincerity in his actions, as he had only ever loved Faith.

Yet, I had brought the Moores down to their knees for his fake love. I got my parents killed, and my brother had been driven to insanity because of this man. When I thought of that, I reached out for the wine bottle in a fit of impulsivity and wanted to smash it all over Miles' head.

Just as I was about to land a hit on Miles, Alder grabbed hold of me and dragged me away.

Then, he murmured gently, "Willow, don't dirty your hands for the likes of him."

Those words snapped me out of my haze of hatred, calming me down.

I nearly lost control of myself to the hatred in my heart as the memories of my family's tragedy played in my mind.

I placed the wine bottle down with a thump under Miles' astonished gaze and sneered. "Miles, I have never once wronged you when we dated for the past four years. However, not only did you leave me at the altar on our wedding day, but you also slapped me in front of our guests.

"You're nothing but a illegitimate child. Who are you to humiliate me like this?"

Miles immediately became flush with anger and rose to his feet. Unfortunately, he couldn't even say a word in retort before Julian rushed over and slapped him hard. My parents stood on either side of me, glaring at Miles with anger.

My father even bellowed with rage, "Julian, he dared to hit my daughter! I will see to it that our family's collaboration ends here today if you fail to give her the justice she deserves!"

Julian's face changed drastically. He slapped Miles once more and yelled, "You scoundrel! If I had known you were so unworthy, I would've never acknowledged you as one of the Wrights.

"You'd better get on your knees and beg for Mr. and Mrs. Moore's forgiveness and apologize to Willow right this instant!" It seemed that Julian's tough love had finally given Miles a wake-up call.

Miles' look at me was complicated. It was filled with regret and resentment.

Nonetheless, I knew he didn't regret hitting me. Instead, he regretted the fact that he had lost control and had turned me against him before achieving his goals. He was probably trying to devise a way to mend our relationship.

Just then, Faith, who had been next to him, went on her knees and said with red-rimmed eyes, "Ms. Moore, blame me if you must. I couldn't let Miles go.

"I threatened him with my life so he wouldn't be able to leave my side. Miles might not have been born from an honorable union, but he's innocent. If you want to humiliate anyone, then humiliate me instead. Stop calling him that."

I had to admit that Faith truly had a knack for manipulating Miles. As soon as those words fell from her lips, Miles, who had originally planned to beg for my forgiveness, wasted no time helping her up.

Then, he turned to Julian and said, "Dad, I'm not in the wrong. Willow deceived me all this time. You have no idea what Willow has done.

"She knew that Faith was in a bad mood, but she deliberately texted Faith out of provocation. Faith nearly killed herself today. Willow should be the one apologizing!"

Once he said his piece, he turned to me and said imperiously, "Willow, you'd better apologize to Faith if you still want to marry me."

When my father heard Miles say those things, he nearly blew a gasket. He was about to give Miles a good beating, but my mother stopped him. Just as chaos was about to erupt, the hotel's door abruptly swung open.

A man that no one had expected to see today came striding in.

That man was none other than the Wrights' eldest scion, Cassius Wright. He was dressed in a bespoke suit as he sauntered across the marble floor. He took a few steps until he finally stopped right before me.
