Chapter 4

KAEL'S POV

The forest smelled of blood, fear, and the cold tang of the night. Even before I saw her, I knew she was here. Silver. Sharp. Alive. Her presence cut through the darkness like a blade. I could feel her heartbeat, fierce and wild, pulsing through the bond that had never truly broken.

I moved silently, boots barely brushing the mossy floor. Each step was careful, predatory. Every sense was heightened. The rogues had underestimated her. That was a mistake they would not survive. I would not forgive anyone who touched her.

And then I saw her.

Liora. Crouched low on the forest floor, silver fur glimmering under the Blood Moon. Chest heaving. Eyes wide. Every nerve on edge. She was alive. She was breathing. She was... untouchable.

She didn't look at me immediately. Her gaze swept the shadows with razor-sharp focus, every muscle tense and coiled, ready to strike. My wolf mirrored her caution, coiled and growling low in my chest. I did not move closer. I did not need to. She would not allow it-not yet.

I forced myself to kneel, letting partial wolf shift take form. My eyes glinted red in the silver light. Fangs glimmered faintly. Claws brushed the earth. My wolf pressed against the inside of me, tense, alert, protective.

I let the words come slowly, measured.

"I rejected you, Liora," I said softly, voice deep and dangerous, carrying the weight of every choice I had made. "I rejected you because the world would have killed you tonight if I hadn't. Your bloodline... your awakening... it would have made you a target before you could even stand. I had to make it appear absolute. I had to make it final."

Her eyes flicked toward me, sharp and wary. A growl rolled low from her chest. My wolf tensed, mirroring her instinctive suspicion. The forest itself seemed to respond, leaves rustling, shadows twitching.

She took a step back. Fur bristling. Every rune along her spine glowing faintly under the Blood Moon's silver light. The power emanating from her was undeniable, overwhelming. And yet, fear mingled with strength. I could smell it. Taste it. It was intoxicating.

"You humiliated me," she said finally, voice trembling but cutting through the tension like steel. "You told the world I was unworthy. And now you tell me... it was to save me?"

I flinched at the raw honesty in her voice. I had not expected her to confront me so quickly. I had miscalculated the depth of humiliation, the ache that would cling to her like a second skin.

"I..." Words failed me. I did not know how to explain the terror I had felt when she shifted under the Blood Moon, when the prophecy whispered its warnings.

"I should have explained," I admitted finally, voice low, almost trembling. "But there was no time. Every second I hesitated would have put you in danger. I had to make it appear... final. I had to make it appear absolute."

Her eyes narrowed. "Final? Absolute? You turned me into a spectacle for the entire pack. You shattered me before they all! How does that protect me?"

I felt the weight of my own choices pressing down. My chest tightened, every nerve alight. The bond between us pulsed violently, a living thing that mirrored her anger, her fear, her power.

"I made the choice to keep you alive," I said, voice harsher now. "I made the choice to hide you from those who would have killed you before you even realized who you were. And if that meant I had to break you... I did it. I will never apologize for keeping you alive."

Her wolf growled, a fierce, vibrating sound that made the hairs along my own spine rise. She did not move toward me. She did not run. She stood poised, radiant, dangerous, trembling with the mix of fear and newfound power.

The forest seemed to contract around us, every leaf, every shadow, every flicker of moonlight focusing on this moment. The air was thick with tension, electric, alive.

I stepped forward slowly, muscles coiled. My presence alone radiated power and danger. I could see the rogues scattered nearby, trembling at the edges of their consciousness, sensing the bond, the predator, the storm that was coming. I ignored them. They no longer mattered.

I let the weight of my gaze press on her, letting her feel the full force of the obsession, the need, the possessiveness I could not contain. "I will never let anyone harm you, Liora," I said. "Not rogues. Not rival Alphas. Not even the world itself. You are mine. You were always mine."

Her eyes flared. She trembled, not with fear entirely, but with the recognition of what I had said. The silver runes along her spine glimmered brighter, reacting to the bond. The power within her pulsed, alive, almost sentient.

"And if you run again..." I let the words hang, dangerous, unfinished. My wolf pressed closer inside me, its predatory instincts feeding on my obsession, my protective rage.

She stiffened. Her ears flicked back. Her gaze locked with mine, silver eyes gleaming. She was trembling, alive, powerful, and she understood the threat behind my words.

In that moment, I realized that the Blood Moon had not only awakened her powers, it had awakened the storm that was our bond. Desire, anger, possessiveness, protection, obsession-all wrapped together into something neither of us could control fully.

Then the wind shifted. A rustle behind her. A scent carried on the cold night air. Rogues. The forest whispered of danger. I could smell them, sense them.

But I did not hesitate. Not for a second. My body tensed. My claws flexed. My teeth gleamed. My wolf growled low.

She was no longer the girl I had rejected. She was power. She was prophecy. She was the storm I had tried to hide from the world. And I knew, deep in my bones, that anyone who dared touch her from now on would not live to regret it.

I stepped closer, letting the Blood Moon illuminate me, showing her fully-Alpha, predator, protector, obsessive, dangerous.

"Do you trust me?" I asked, voice low, rasping, rough.

Her eyes narrowed. A flicker of fear, yes-but also recognition. Recognition of power. Recognition of what we were. Recognition of the storm we had just begun.

The rogues stirred at the edges, sensing the shift, sensing that they were no longer in control. The forest held its breath. The Blood Moon glowed overhead. And between us, the bond pulsed, fierce, alive, impossible to ignore.

She was mine. Always. And the hunt, the reckoning, and the awakening had only just begun.
