Chapter 5

LIORA'S POV

The forest was no longer just trees and shadows. It was alive, trembling, holding its breath. Every leaf, every branch, every whisper of wind pulsed with energy I could feel through my skin. My heart thundered in my chest, lungs burning, body tense. The Blood Moon hung above, silver light spilling across the forest floor, illuminating the dark shapes lurking between the trees.

I could smell them before I saw them. Rogues. Too many, too fast, moving silently through the underbrush. Their eyes glinted red in the moonlight, scanning, hunting. They had underestimated me once. They would not make that mistake again.

My claws dug into the mossy ground instinctively. My wolf roared inside me, coiling like a spring, ready to leap. The silver along my spine shimmered brighter with every heartbeat. I felt the power within me, alive, ancient, awakening in waves that coursed through every bone, every nerve, every fiber of my being. I was no longer the girl Kael had rejected. I was something else. Something dangerous.

The first rogue emerged from the shadows, massive and jagged, teeth bared. He lunged, claws swinging, but I shifted fully into my wolf form before he could reach me. Muscles stretched and snapped, bones reshaping, fur shimmering silver in the moonlight. I moved with instinctual precision, a predator in my own right.

I sidestepped his attack, letting him stumble past, and struck with claws and teeth. The forest echoed with his cry as he hit the ground. I could feel the thrill, the danger, the raw surge of power that made me tremble and roar at the same time.

Two more rogues appeared from the underbrush. I felt their fear immediately. The silver runes along my spine pulsed as if alive, reacting to the threat. They hesitated, uncertain, sensing the predator I had become.

I lunged at the nearest one, teeth sinking into his shoulder. He stumbled back, hissing in shock, eyes wide with terror. My movements flowed seamlessly, instinct and intelligence combining into a deadly dance. Every strike, every dodge, every movement was precise, controlled, and fueled by power I had never known.

The third rogue circled, attempting to flank me. I felt the surge of energy pulse through my chest, and the forest seemed to respond, twisting around him. Roots tripped him, branches struck him across the face, and I moved like silver lightning, claws extended, teeth bared. He went down with a strangled cry, sprawling across the moss.

For a moment, the forest was still. My chest heaved. My muscles burned. My claws dug into the earth. The adrenaline pulsed through me, fierce, intoxicating. I was alive in a way I had never known. My wolf roared inside me, claiming the victory, claiming the power that had always been mine.

And then I sensed him. Kael.

Not approaching cautiously. Not moving silently. The predator within him was unleashed, fully, and the moment I saw him step into the clearing, the forest seemed to shift in response. He did not speak. He did not ask if I was hurt. His eyes, red and dangerous under the moonlight, were locked on me. Possessive. Obsessed. Alpha.

I tensed. My wolf mirrored him, coiled, cautious, and yet exhilarated. His presence alone set my body alight, drawing energy from the bond between us. I could feel his control, his dominance, and his need to protect me radiating in waves that shook the very air around us.

The rogues had scattered into the shadows, trembling, recognizing the predator they had never understood. Kael did not move toward me yet. He did not need to. His gaze alone warned them, promised them pain, promised them death if they came near.

I realized with a start that I did not need him to fight for me. I had already won this round. I had faced them. I had embraced my power. I had claimed myself.

And yet, seeing him there, the Alpha who had once humiliated me, who had once rejected me, standing as fierce, dangerous, and possessive as I had ever imagined, made my blood hum, my wolf tense, my heart stutter with desire and fear.

He finally stepped closer, each movement deliberate, predatory, a storm contained within a man who could destroy the world if provoked. The tension between us was palpable. Every muscle, every nerve, every instinct screamed that we were bound by more than desire. By blood. By prophecy. By the storm that now coursed through both of us.

“Liora,” he said, voice low, rough, commanding, carrying the weight of obsession and protection, “you are alive. And no one will touch you—not now, not ever.”

I lifted my head, silver eyes meeting his red gaze. My chest heaved with pride, fear, adrenaline, and power. “I am not yours to protect,” I said, voice steady, strong. “I am mine. And I will fight. Always.”

A low growl rumbled from him, possessive, dangerous, hungry. His wolf mirrored his desire. The forest shivered under the power we both radiated. He did not step back. He did not relent. He did not leave.

The rogues scattered into the shadows, leaving only the two of us standing in the clearing, silver light of the Blood Moon washing over our fur, illuminating the storm that had begun between us.

I realized then, with fierce clarity, that nothing would ever be the same. Not the forest. Not the rogues. Not Kael. Not me.

The storm had awakened. And the world had no idea what was coming.
