Chapter 2

The sharp command in Jayleen’s voice made the other Omegas pause for a moment, but she quickly recovered, her expression hardening as she pointed an accusing finger at me. “Maia, how could you be so reckless? Are you deliberately trying to upset our Luna by kicking over the suitcase right as she walked in?”

I trembled with anger, my wolf stirring uneasily in the back of my mind, urging me to defend myself. But before I could speak, Luciana’s eyes filled with tears, and she leaned into Alpha Solomon’s arms, her voice trembling. “If my presence bothers you, just say so, and I’ll leave,” she said, her tone dripping with false hurt. “What if these clothes are contaminated? What if they spread germs?” she added, pretending to gag as she clutched at her stomach.

Alpha Solomon gently guided her to the couch across the room, his face filled with concern. Then he turned to me, his expression darkening, the alpha aura around him pressing down on me like a suffocating weight. “Maia, come here at once and apologize to the Luna,” he commanded, his voice sharp and unyielding.

Compared to Jayleen’s false accusations, the Alpha’s cold demeanor cut deeper. I stood there, feeling small and powerless, and murmured, “Believe it or not, I didn’t do this.”

His eyes narrowed, and he gestured sharply. Jayleen and a few other Omegas immediately seized me, dragging me toward the stairs. I stumbled on the last few steps, collapsing to the ground.

A dull pain surged through my abdomen, reminiscent of the moment I’d been trampled in the stables in my past life. Fear for the pup inside me overwhelmed me, and I curled up on the floor, tears welling in my eyes as I pleaded with him. “Alpha, my stomach hurts terribly. Please, call a healer for me.”

For a brief moment, I thought I saw a flicker of hesitation in his eyes, but Luciana clung to his arm, her voice dripping with disdain. “The carpet’s thick; how could falling on it cause pain?” she scoffed. “If Maia prefers faking a fall over apologizing, then forget it.”

Hearing her words, the Alpha’s face turned cold again. “If you like being on the ground so much, then kneel down and apologize to the Luna. Otherwise, you’re not going anywhere,” he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Clenching my teeth, I shakily reached for my phone to call for help. But before I could, a stiletto heel came down hard on my hand, and another foot crushed my phone to pieces.

Luciana’s soft voice floated down from above me. “Alpha, I’ve been thinking it over, and I believe Maia should stay and keep me company. She’s further along in her pregnancy and likely has more experience caring for someone expecting, don’t you think?”

I looked up at her, my hand throbbing with pain. In that brief moment of eye contact, I saw a cold glint in her eyes and felt a rush of dread wash over me. “I’m almost due. I can’t take care of you,” I said firmly, my voice trembling but resolute. “I’m sorry for bumping into you. I’ll move out immediately.”

But the Alpha raised his voice sharply, cutting me off. “Who said you could refuse the Luna’s kindness?” he snapped, his alpha tone sending a shiver down my spine. “Except on the day you give birth, you will stay here and look after her.”

Seeing my expression falter, he added, his tone almost mocking, “If you take good care of her, I might consider letting your pup have imported formula.”

Behind the Alpha’s back, Luciana smiled triumphantly, her lips forming the words, “I’ll never let you go.”

My heart sank. She had also been reborn, just like me.

In that previous life, while I lay dying in the stables, I had heard her hateful words clearly: “Maia, if it weren’t for you, would I have been driven to jump? You think giving up the Alpha would make me spare you? Hand over that locket now!”

It was only then I realized that she had been reborn, just like me. But she had killed me once already. In this life, all I wanted was to escape with my pup, but she still wouldn’t let me go.
