Chapter 2

I wanted to warn Mason, but he had me suspended from a helicopter like a kite, sending me falling to my death to be crushed into a pulp.

I only learned moments before dying that he and Winnie had been involved all along and that Winnie hadn't committed suicide because of me at all. It was because she discovered her own secret and killed herself out of sheer fear.

I trembled violently at the recollection, the searing pain of hitting the ground crashing over me once more. I was determined to sit back and witness their self-inflicted downfall in this life.

"You have nothing to worry about, Mr. Mason, for you are not the one I wish to marry either," I said as I fixed my eyes on him for a lingering moment before getting up, taking my leave of the room, and walking away.

I then heard Mom and Dad apologizing to the Sherwoods. "Hannah has always had a strange temperament since she was young. She's not particularly good-looking either. Please excuse her behavior…"

I felt a sudden, throbbing pain in my chest after hearing that. Mom and Dad had always favored Winnie since we were young. She was born a few seconds after me, but I had been forced to yield to her in everything.

I later discovered Winnie's secret and tried to tell Mom about it, only to be dismissed as being jealous of her. Dad, on the other hand, placed all his hopes on Winnie—his pretty, obedient daughter—to ascend into the uppermost circles of society.

They had never actually cared about me, and because of that, I decided I didn't want anything to do with them either.

I took out my phone and replied to the text message from three days prior. "I'll marry you, but under one condition."

Mason, perhaps fearing that I would interfere, had his people put out the announcement that he would marry Winnie Lowe, the second young lady of the Lowe family, that very night.

They set the wedding date for one week out, falling exactly on his 25th birthday.

It coincidentally fell on the very same day I was supposed to marry Draco Sherwood. He sent someone to pick me up over the next two days to try on wedding gowns and finalize the banquet details.

I was so exhausted that I just wanted to slack off, but Draco stated earnestly, "You're the one who saved my life, so you're the only one qualified to become my wife in this lifetime. Your wedding must be a grand affair, as I won't let you be slighted in the slightest."

I stared into his profound eyes, and my heart unexpectedly skipped a beat.

In my past life, Draco had actually come looking for me, but because I had already resolved to marry Mason, I callously turned him down. I felt deeply guilty when I later found out that he had committed suicide.

I was focused solely on saving Winnie, Mom, and Dad in my past life, though, protecting them from being caught up in the Sherwood family's fury. In this life, I decided to be a bit selfish. I wanted to save the person of my choice and live the life I desire.

Draco said he was going to fly abroad himself to find a diamond worthy of me three days before the wedding. "I'll have someone pick you up tomorrow, Hannah. You'll definitely be satisfied with the wedding gown this time."

He squeezed my hand after saying that, then turned and stepped into the car bound for the airport.

I saw the wedding gown the following day and found it absolutely stunning. I was later told by the manager of the boutique that Draco had commissioned over a hundred designers to work around the clock and finish the wedding gown, naming it "Anah."

Upon wearing the wedding gown, the entire room appeared to gleam with radiance, and even my plain countenance was rendered noticeably striking by contrast.

"I like the wedding gown Hannah is wearing, Mason!"

Upon hearing a familiar voice, I turned and met Mason's gaze.

He looked stunned for a split second before his face twisted back into a mocking smirk. "What are you doing here, Hannah? Did you find out we were bringing Winnie here to try on wedding gowns and come here on purpose to ruin our day?"

Winnie turned and threw herself into Mom's embrace. "Is Hannah angry because we left her behind, Mom?"

Mom and Dad lashed out at me furiously. "You ungrateful brat! You actually stay out all day and night just so you can sneak around and find ways to upset Winnie!"

"You'd better take off that wedding gown and get out of here this instant! You're so shameless! Are you really that desperate to get married? You're completely humiliating the Lowe family!"
