Chapter 3

My first targets, my parents, pushed the door of the operating room and rushed in.

They glanced at me strapped to the operating table and said, "Layla can't wait any longer. Hurry up and draw her bone marrow!"

Hank immediately put on the medical gloves and nodded to them.

"Have you signed the consent form for the surgery? Complete those procedures so that no one will find out it's illicit medical practice."

My parents proudly raised the consent form for surgery in their hands. "It was signed early in the morning. We also asked Ethan to sign one."

Ethan handed his copy of the consent form for my surgery to Hank with a cold face.

After taking a look, Hank nodded with satisfaction.

The people whom I once loved the most were planning how to take my bone marrow in a fair and honest way just for the sake of the one they loved. I just found it pathetic and ridiculous.

Soon, the substantial despair even made me laugh.

"Mom, Dad, you promised to protect me forever," I said.

Hearing this, my mother, Sally Anderson, refuted me, "Shut up. You're not worthy of being our daughter! If Layla hadn't been lost, would we have given you the opportunity to enjoy the love that originally belonged to her? You have stolen her life for more than a decade. Now, it's time for you to compensate her."

My dad, Frank Peterson, also agreed. "If it weren't for you, Layla wouldn't have been lost, and we wouldn't have lost her for so many years. You're a liar. Donating your bone marrow to Layla is the only way you can atone for your crime."

Looking at my parents with distorted faces, I felt so languished.

The scene of me curled up in their arms seemed like it was just yesterday, but today, I had become a thorn in the eyes of all of them.

My parents thought that I deliberately kidnapped Layla and came to the Peterson family just to replace her. No matter how I explained, they wouldn't believe me.

Ever since Layla came back, they cut off all my living expenses. I ate leftovers from the kitchen trash can every day and had to do part-time jobs for at least half of the day to afford the tuition for college.

But they were afraid that Layla, who only got into a diploma mill, would feel unbalanced, so they deliberately tampered with my application. In the end, I could only go to a community university.

Even so, I had never resented them. I always thought that there was a family bond between us, and they would be moved by me some day.

But I was terribly wrong.

As my parents' favorability for me dropped to the bottom, a tear fell from the corner of my eye.

"Mom, Dad, I don't regret being your daughter," I said.

Sally sneered at my confession.

She said, "We regret adopting you. Adopting you is the most shameful thing I have ever done in my life. We have already submitted the application to cancel the adoption, and you will be removed from our household register soon."

Hearing that, I was hit by despair.

Before I could say anything, Ethan threw a divorce agreement in my face.

"I have already signed the divorce agreement. I will marry Layla when she gets better. As for you, don't even think about taking a penny from me. Get out of my family with the bastard in your belly," he said.

The continuous critical hits left me in complete hopelessness. My belly felt more and more uncomfortable. The little guy in my womb seemed to sense the threats and kept hitting my belly, trying to rush out. He was asking me for help.

"I can sign whatever you want me to sign. I just want you to let me give birth to the child before extracting the bone marrow, okay? This is a living life." The pain in my belly almost suffocated me, and I kept begging them to show me some mercy.

"Humph, do you think we are discussing this with you? We are informing you. Everyone, help me hold her down and turn her over. I am going to extract her bone marrow." As Hank uttered these cold words, my parents and Ethan immediately suppressed me.

They turned me over like meat on a chopping board, leaving me with no dignity at all.

When the long needle in Hank's hand pierced into my spine, I almost fainted.

I just felt dizzy and my belly kept tightening. Gradually, my baby stopped struggling.

System: [Warning, warning. Your fetus just died in the womb. Mission failed. You can choose to change the task.]

At this moment, I lost the last glimmer of hope. As I intended to reach out and refused the system's offer, my hand couldn't move at all.

I thought it would be nice if I could just die like this.

"The bone marrow has been extracted. I will take it to Layla right now. You guys keep an eye on her first and don't let her move." Hank took my bone marrow and ran out of the operating room in ecstasy.

Suddenly, I felt a surge of heat gushing from my vagina.

"Blood. There is a lot of blood!" Ethan suddenly shouted to Hank, but he didn't even turn his head.

Hank said, "Temporary bleeding is normal."

But the blood kept flowing out of my body, and soon, the entire operating table was flooded.

System: [Congratulations to you. Your mission has been successfully transformed to accumulate the regret points of the targets. The time limit will be eight hours.]

My soul was instantly ripped out of my body and slowly floated up.

The entire floor of the operating room was stained red with my blood. Ethan realized that something was wrong and shook me frantically.

"Olivia, wake up, don't fall asleep. Aren't you unwilling to divorce? I can promise you that you will give birth to your child first, and we can talk about the rest later. You better wake up," he said.
