Chapter 1

1: 1

In my last life, the fake heir broke his own leg in an accident, and the Hensons broke mine and threw me out of the house.

"You've barely set foot in this family, and already you're trying to hurt Myron Henson. From this moment on, you are cast out of the Henson family!"

My own sister, Beth Henson, fixed me with an icy stare, then turned and murmured something gentle to Myron.

Mr. and Mrs. Henson wouldn't even glance my way. They just had someone haul me out, a cripple, and dump me.

I died on the street with hatred in my heart.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day the Hensons came to the orphanage looking for me.

Beth looked at me and suddenly said, "Mom, Dad, he isn't my brother. Besides, we've already decided to raise Myron as our own, so there's no need to go looking for anyone else."

Mr. and Mrs. Henson nodded at that and left.

I didn't do what I'd done last time. I didn't demand a paternity test. I just stayed quiet in the orphanage.

Ten years later, using what I remembered from my past life, I'd already made my name and my fortune.

That day, when I came back to visit the orphanage, I ran into the Hensons by chance. The moment Beth saw me, she rushed over. "Lester Henson, we've been searching for you forever. Myron's sick. He needs a kidney from you. Hurry up and come with me!"

The words were barely out before she was ready to drag me off to the Henson house. I smiled and flicked her hand off my arm.

"I've got nothing to do with your family."

"Lester, we've had it confirmed. You really are our own son!"

Mrs. Henson looked at me. "Come home with us, son."

"And save your brother!"

As she said it, she caught hold of my hand. "Lester, don't worry, as long as you save Myron, we'll treat you well, I promise."

I looked at the family standing in front of me and smiled.

In my last life, once they took me back to the Henson house, none of them cared about me at all. The moment that fake heir shed a single tear, every bit of blame landed on my head.

Thinking of how that family broke my legs and left me to die in the snow, there was no chance I'd ever tie myself to them again.

"I have nothing to do with any of you."

I looked at Mr. and Mrs. Henson as I said it.

Their faces darkened at once.

Mr. Henson's stare turned cold. "Lester, I'm your father!"

"You do as I say!"

"Now, you come back to the Henson house with me, right now!"

His voice left no room for argument.

I listened to him and smiled. "Mr. Henson, first of all, I'm an orphan."

"I grew up in the orphanage. You are not my parents."

"And second, you want to haul me off to hand over a kidney for your son. Do you honestly think that's going to happen?"

The moment I finished, Beth lost her patience.

She looked at me, her eyes cold. "Whatever you say, you're part of this family."

"You have to come back with us!"

Then, more urgently, she added, "If it's money you want, the Hensons have money. We can give it to you."

She pulled a card from her hand and held it out to me.

I looked at the card in Beth's hand and smiled, but I didn't take it.

I just watched the Hensons, cold and unmoved.

Behind Beth, Myron suddenly caught her arm. "Sis, let it go."

"I don't want you humiliating yourself like this for my sake!"
