Chapter 2

2: 2

The moment Myron finished speaking, Beth and both her parents crowded in to comfort him.

"Myron, don't worry. We're going to save you, no matter what!"

I watched the three of them fuss over Myron and shook my head, ready to leave.

I'd never felt anything for this family in the first place.

And watching them now, all I felt was disgust.

"Lester, where do you think you're going?"

Seeing me turn to go, Beth suddenly blocked my path.

There was a commanding edge in her stare. "Let me be clear. If anything happens to Myron, none of us will ever forgive you."

I looked at her and smiled. "Ladies and gentlemen, I have nothing to do with your family."

"And beyond that, he's sick. Why should that mean I have to give him a kidney?"

As I said it, I pointed at Myron beside them.

Beth answered as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Lester, we already ran tests on the blood sample you left at the orphanage."

"You're a match for Myron."

"Giving up one kidney won't do you any harm anyway."

"You have to donate."

I looked at Beth, and my eyes were full of disgust.

In my past life, the moment the fake heir cried, Beth pinned every crime on me.

When they threw me out of the Henson house, she didn't even spare me a single glance.

In this life too, it was only because something happened to Myron that she came looking for me.

But when they came, it was to make me hand a kidney over to Myron.

Faced with a demand this unreasonable, how could I ever agree?

"Les, you're my child too, and of course it breaks my heart."

"But Myron is our child as well. He's your brother!"

Beulah suddenly grabbed my arm. "Les, you have to help your brother."

"Mama knows this is a lot to ask of you."

"Don't worry. As long as you're willing to give Myron a kidney, we'll take you back into the Henson family."

"From now on you'll be one of us, and we'll take care of you."

She looked at me, tears streaming down her face, but hearing her words, I let out a cold laugh.

In my past life, when they brought me back to the Henson house, she said she'd take care of me too.

But the moment anything happened to Myron, they laid every crime on my head.

And they never stopped blaming me for it.

Now, looking at Beulah in front of me, I shook my head.

I knew exactly what these Hensons were.

"Mrs. Henson."

I looked at her, my eyes full of disgust. "I have nothing to do with your family."

"And I don't intend to give a kidney to anyone."

With that, I turned to go.

The only thing I wanted from this family was distance.

But I'd barely turned around when Beth cut me off again.

Her eyes fixed on me, and now there was anger in her voice. "Lester, think this through."

"Our family is only willing to take you in because of Myron."

"You've only been out of the orphanage a few years. Out there, you'll never make it."

"Agree to give Myron a kidney, and we'll give you a large sum of money."

"And we'll set you up with the best job there is."

She looked at me, her voice urgent.

I just smiled and turned to leave.

"Sorry. I don't need a job."
