Chapter 1

On the day of my husband, Roderick Evans's birthday, our son Lucas suddenly developed acute leukemia and was in critical condition.

Roderick obtained the only effective medicine from the drug supplier.

I was extremely fortunate and thought that Lucas's illness could definitely be cured, but I didn't expect Roderick to disappear and cut off contact with me.

The doctor urged me to quickly deliver the medicine, and I finally got through to Roderick's phone.

Unexpectedly, it was his secretary Lisa Owens who answered the phone.

"Madam, Mr. Evans is accompanying me at the pet hospital. Is there something urgent that you have to call now?"

My heart was pounding, and I shouted loudly,

"Lucas's condition has worsened, and the hospital said that the special medicine is urgently needed. Please send it quickly!"

Lisa chuckled.

"The child happened to have his condition worsen today. Mrs. Carter, you really know how to pick the timing."

After Roderick heard it, there was impatience in his tone.

"Just because you're jealous, you're joking about the child's illness, Ivy Wright, I really misunderstood you."

He hung up the phone directly.

And Lucas lost his life forever.

...

"Didn't we agree that the miracle drug would be delivered today? What kind of mother are you!"

"I'm telling you, if the medicine doesn't arrive within half a day, you won't be able to keep this child!"

Half a day!

I was exhausted and almost fainting.

As soon as I thought of Lucas still in the operating room, I instantly became sober, "Doctor, I will definitely deliver the medicine within half a day."

The doctor suppressed his anger and looked at me.

"The source of this special medicine is in Roderick's hands. The hospital has also contacted him, but there has been no response from Mr. Evans."

I was shocked, and the tears that I had been holding back in my eyes were about to burst.

Roderick was the child's father. It turned out that not only did I contact him, but the hospital also contacted him.

"Thank you, I will go find him now and deliver the medicine within half a day."

I didn't know how I walked out of the hospital. I have called Roderick dozens of times.

But the calls were hung up one after another. I desperately wiped away the tears in my eyes, tears filled my eyes, and I couldn't see the words on my phone clearly.

Until I accidentally opened Lisa's Instagram with blurred eyes and saw what she posted,

[No matter when, as long as he is there, I don't have to be afraid.]

I saw her caption accompanying a photo, and in the photo, Roderick was holding a dog in a pet hospital.

I was on the verge of collapsing, so I immediately called Roderick on WhatsApp.

The phone finally connected, but I didn't expect it to be Lisa who answered.

"Mrs. Evans, what exactly is the matter? Mr. Evans is busy with something!"

Lisa's tone was full of disdain, "If there's nothing else, I'll hang up the phone first."

I could hear her soft and weak tone, as if she was about to take control of everything. The fury in my heart kept surging.

"Shut up, where is Roderick? Let him answer the phone!"

Lisa burst into tears and I heard her complaining to Roderick.

Roderick took the phone call with a hint of annoyance in his tone.

"Have you caused enough trouble? Lisa already told you, I have something to do now!"

My heart felt like it had been poured with a bucket of ice water, so cold and painful.

"Roderick, Lucas's condition has worsened. The doctor said we urgently need the special medicine. Hurry up and bring it!"

I gritted my teeth and suppressed my emotions. As long as he brings the medicine, I can endure anything.

"The doctor said before that his illness is not that serious. Mr. Evans, Mrs. Evans is just overreacting. Or maybe she just doesn't like you accompanying me, that's why she said that?"

Lisa's voice had a hint of crying.

After listening, Roderick's tone became even more annoyed.

"Enough, Ivy Wright. I didn't expect you to use Lucas's life to be jealous. I will send the medicine tomorrow. Don't call me if there's nothing wrong!"

I heard the sound of the phone being hung up. When I called back, Roderick didn't answer.

I looked at the time, there were still 4 hours left. I couldn't give up.

I saw that Lisa's Instagram also had the location information, so I immediately took a taxi to that pet hospital.

As soon as I arrived at the entrance of the hospital, I saw Lisa holding the dog in Roderick's arms.

He wiped away her tears and kissed her on the cheek to comfort her.

When Roderick saw me approaching, his face immediately changed and his eyes were filled with disgust.

"Ivy, I've already said that I will deliver the medicine later. Why are you bothering me? Aren't you annoying?"

He looked at me with disdain on his face. If looks could kill, he would tear me apart.

Clearly, I was the one protected by the law as his wife, but he openly kissed his secretary without feeling any guilt.

I clenched my fist, feeling the pressure building up in my eyes.

It's not worth shedding another tear for a man like him.

But I must get the special medicine in his hands.

"Roderick Evans, I don't care who you want to stay with here. Lucas only has half a day to be saved. Hurry up and give me the special medicine!"

I stepped forward and grabbed his arm, wanting him to take me to get the medicine immediately.

Lisa reached out and held Roderick's hand, leaning against his chest and sobbing softly.

"Mr. Evans, Lucas will definitely be fine. He has always been in good health. But Papi has just been rescued, and my foot is sprained. It really hurts."

"Madam, I know you just want Mr. Evans to go back. If he sends me back, I will let him go back. Is that not enough?"

I reached out and held Roderick's arm, unable to hold back the tears in my eyes.

I felt sorry for my Lucas. He was diagnosed with leukemia when he was two years old, and it's been so hard for him to survive until now.

That was Roderick's birthday. Lucas was tortured by illness early in the morning, with a pale face. He was still pulling on my clothes, asking if his dad could come back. He saved a lot of pocket money and wanted to buy his dad a day off to celebrate his birthday.

But now, he can't find his dad.

"Roderick, I beg you, give me the medicine. I'm kneeling down and begging you, is that not enough?"

My body gradually slid to the ground. For Lucas, I can bow my head to Roderick.

"Mr. Evans, Mrs. Evans even knelt down just to make you go back. Maybe I should go back by myself."

I looked at Lisa with anger, and Lisa hid behind Roderick again, "Mr. Evans, I'm so scared."

Roderick looked at me angrily and threw away the hand that grabbed his arm.

"Ivy, if you want to act, just kneel here alone. I'm not in the mood to watch you act!"

He pushed me away, and my head hit the nearby flower bed. The pain swept through my whole body.
