Chapter 2

...

I looked at Roderick's back as he left, ignoring the wound on my head, and stood up unsteadily, taking big steps forward.

"Roderick, don't listen to Lisa. I didn't lie. You can call Lucas's doctor. I beg you, give me the medicine!"

Roderick glanced at me with disgust, let Lisa get into the passenger seat, and quickly got in the car.

I quickly reached out and grabbed the car door, the blood on my forehead flowing into my eyes. I didn't have time to wipe it, holding onto Roderick's car door tightly.

"You don't mind embarrassing yourself, but I do. Lisa just sprained her foot. I was just taking her home. Do you have to make a fuss here?"

He kicked me in the stomach, reached out and closed the car door, and left.

That woman just sprained her foot. Can't she take a taxi home? Does she have to be personally escorted back?

I know I can't give up. I keep video calling Roderick, but every time it's hung up.

Later, when I sent him a message, there was already a red exclamation mark at the end.

When Lucas's attending physician called me, I almost collapsed.

"Ms. Wright, Lucas can't hold on anymore. If you're free, please come back to the hospital as soon as possible to see the child."

I felt dizzy and didn't even know how the call was hung up. I looked at the car that had already gone far away, filled with infinite resentment.

Ignoring the wound on my head, I picked up the phone and called a taxi. When I arrived at the hospital, all I saw was Lucas's lifeless face. He will never smile again, and he doesn't even have a breath.

I didn't even have a chance to say the last words to him, and I was separated from my only relative by life and death.

I forced myself to leave the hospital with my child and took care of all the arrangements for Lucas's funeral alone.

The day he was buried, I fainted when I got home and had a long dream.

In the dream, I saw the me who had just given birth to Lucas again, and I kissed him on the cheek.

He waved his little fists and cried loudly because he couldn't eat enough.

Although no one would help me, I had sensible Lucas, and there was an extra bond in my life that love couldn't bring.

I was really happy with Lucas. Every day, I see him grow a little bit, open his mouth and call me mom, and wipe away my tears and kiss me when I can't wait for Roderick to come back and celebrate my birthday with me.

Everything changed when Lucas was two years old. The sudden leukemia exhausted me, and I spent every day in fear and worry. I was afraid that my Lucas would suddenly leave me one day.

So every day in the hospital, I took care of him carefully.

I just wanted to cherish every day I spent with him.

Roderick said there is a special medicine that can cure Lucas's illness. I was overjoyed. If his illness is cured, he can live a normal life like other children.

When I woke up, I found myself still lying on the floor, and the feeling of dehydration reminded me that I have a fever now.

I looked at the photo of me and Lucas on the bedside table, and the dense tingling almost suffocated me. It was Lucas's second birthday, and Roderick promised to celebrate it with Lucas, but suddenly told me at noon that he had to go on a business trip.

And on that day, Lisa sent me a photo of a Cartier bracelet that Roderick gave her. It was also Lisa's birthday.

But Roderick completely forgot. He came back two days later and Lucas asked him repeatedly. He casually transferred 400 dollars to me as compensation.

I reached out and touched my heart, the painful feeling almost made me collapse.

I didn't want to stay in this place anymore. Without Lucas, what's the point of continuing this broken marriage with Roderick?

I took out my suitcase and packed my clothes, putting everything related to Lucas in the suitcase.

I didn't expect Roderick to call at this time.

I hung up the phone again and again, but he came back home within an hour.

When Roderick entered the door, I was dragging the suitcase to leave.

And Roderick reached out to stop me.

“Remember to bring Lucas to attend the company annual meeting. I will announce Lisa as the design director in the company, you better not think about bullying her again!”

He calmly uttered these words and slammed the door and left.

My heart hurt as if it's bleeding. Lucas was no longer here, and he actually organized an annual meeting to celebrate for that bitch!

These two people were really lower than low. Since he wanted me to go so much, I would make him pay the price!
