My Mate Forced Me to Kneel Before His Luna Novel Cover

My Mate Forced Me to Kneel Before His Luna

At 9:03 PM, Marlowe steps into the Alpha suite expecting a claiming mark. Instead, Khloe Perkins wears her ceremonial gown, and Adam stands half-dressed—unbothered, as if the betrayal had always been the plan. He says Marlowe's name like she interrupted a meeting, not a life. Humiliated and commanded to kneel before another woman's claim, she faces a brutal choice: surrender to the mate who chose her ruin, or rise from the ashes of a shattered bond and make them all regret the night they broke her.

Chapter 3

I didn't see it happen. I want to be honest about that, because everything after this point in the story gets told the way the aftermath of a storm gets told — by the wreckage, not the wind.

Declan pieced it together for me later, in pieces I had to assemble myself, the way you'd reconstruct a shattered vial from the fragments left on a floor. Adam had called his Beta and Gamma into the Alpha suite — the same room where I'd stood two weeks ago and watched him button his shirt without turning around. He hadn't raged. That was the detail that told me the most. He'd sat, apparently, in the chair by the window, and talked about me the way he used to talk about wolfsbane dosages: clinically, from memory, like a man reading off a chart he'd written himself.

*She won't abandon a patient. She never has. Five years, and she never once left a sickbed for her own comfort.*

*She won't let a child die for her own safety. It isn't in her.*

*She doesn't choose herself. Not when the alternative is someone else's suffering. That's the whole architecture of her. I built half of it myself.*

He wasn't wrong. That's the part that still sits like a stone in my chest when I let myself think about it. Five years of loving a man teaches him your shape better than it teaches you his.

The lever, he told them, was Meilani Castro.

His Beta found the rerouted antidote at the drop point outside Ironvale's border within a day — pack jurisdiction stretched thin enough to cover the seizure, technically legal, morally nothing. Adam took possession of it himself. And then he did something I didn't understand the full shape of until Rosalind's message came through, fragmented and too late: he called in the pack chemist, privately, and had the reserve supply on Ironvale grounds — the supply still sitting in the healing ward, the supply Meilani's body depended on every twelve hours — adulterated. Not removed. Adulterated. A compound that would accelerate the toxicity instead of pulling it back. Something engineered to read, on any instrument short of Lycan-grade analysis, like the wolfsbane simply winning.

I didn't know any of that yet when I sat at the folding table in the cabin's back room at five in the morning, going over Meilani's overnight numbers by lamp light.

The pattern was wrong.

I'd watched wolfsbane toxicity in a hundred bodies. It has a shape, a rhythm — slow at first, then a plateau, then, if untreated, a steep and predictable collapse. Meilani's numbers weren't following the shape. They were climbing too fast, in the wrong direction, past the point where a normal reserve dose should have held the line. My hands went cold before my mind caught up to why.

I sent the query to Rosalind through the medical relay — *toxicity pattern inconsistent with standard progression, confirm reserve supply integrity* — and then I sat there, fingertips pressed to my own wrist, counting a pulse I didn't trust, and waited.

The response came late. Too late. And when it arrived, it was fragmented, half the words dropped as if she'd typed it in pieces, looking over her shoulder.

*Reserve reassigned. Alpha's direct authority. I can't—*

That was all. I understood the rest the way you understand a diagnosis before the doctor finishes the sentence.

I was already reaching for my satchel — some animal part of me moving before the rest of me had agreed to it — when the command hit.

It didn't come through my ears. It came through something underneath them, some old wiring I'd thought was dead, the residue of a bond I had never let him finish. Adam's voice, but not a voice — pressure, absolute and biological, flooding down a channel I'd forgotten was still open because I'd assumed a bond that was never marked couldn't carry a tone that strong.

*Return to the Ironvale pack hall. Kneel before Khloe. Both knees. In front of everyone. Stay there until you beg me to take you back — or the child dies by morning.*

My body didn't ask my permission. My feet were already moving toward the cabin door, my satchel forgotten on the table, some compulsion older than my own will dragging me forward like a hook set behind my ribs.

I caught the doorframe with both hands.

I held on.

My knuckles went white against the wood, and somewhere far beneath my skin, in a place I had stopped listening to years ago because it never once answered back, something stirred — not quite rage, not quite grief, older than either, coiling awake for the first time in my life like a held breath finally, finally being let go.
