My Mate Forced Me to Kneel Before His Luna Novel Cover

My Mate Forced Me to Kneel Before His Luna

At 9:03 PM, Marlowe steps into the Alpha suite expecting a claiming mark. Instead, Khloe Perkins wears her ceremonial gown, and Adam stands half-dressed—unbothered, as if the betrayal had always been the plan. He says Marlowe's name like she interrupted a meeting, not a life. Humiliated and commanded to kneel before another woman's claim, she faces a brutal choice: surrender to the mate who chose her ruin, or rise from the ashes of a shattered bond and make them all regret the night they broke her.

Chapter 4

I told Stetson what had happened with my hand still pressed to my wrist, my voice coming out flat and level, the way it always does when something underneath it is trying very hard not to break.

"Adam seized the antidote. He's using the bond-channel. He's ordered me to kneel before Khloe in the pack hall, publicly, or Meilani dies by morning."

Stetson went still.

Not frozen. Not startled. Still in the way that means every part of him is paying the closest possible attention, the way a predator goes still before it moves. The air in the room changed — not a sound, not a visible shift, just pressure dropping the way it drops before a storm, and I felt his Lycan aura settle lower, denser, the atmospheric weight of anger held in absolute check.

He didn't raise his voice. He didn't move toward me. He said, very quietly, "I can mobilize a Lycan healer team and challenge his jurisdiction within three hours."

"Meilani has less time than that." My fingertips pressed harder against my wrist. "The antidote is in his hands. The bond-channel command is real enough that my body is already moving. I'm going."

"Marlowe—"

"Not because he commands it." I looked at him. "Because the child is dying and I'm the only one who can keep her alive long enough for any intervention to matter."

He held my gaze. For the first time since I'd met him, his control slipped — just a fraction, just enough for me to see what was underneath the royal restraint. It wasn't authority. It was something rawer, something that looked like the edge of violence held back by will alone.

Then he said, "I will be behind you. And Adam will answer for this before the Lycan Council."

He didn't order me to stay. He didn't use Alpha tone. He turned immediately to the door and called for Declan Holt, his voice carrying the kind of command that moves entire convoys into motion. I heard him issuing mobilization orders as I picked up my satchel — formal emergency tribunal request, Lycan Council jurisdiction, full investigative authority.

I left.

The door closed behind me. Through the wood, I heard something crack — sharp, sudden, the sound of a table edge giving way under pressure.

---

The drive to Ironvale took forty minutes. I spent them counting my pulse and not thinking about the fact that my body wanted to go faster, that some animal part of me was still responding to the command like a leash pulling taut.

I arrived just before the assembled pack was called to the hall.

The pack house looked the same. Same stone archway. Same scent of pine and old smoke. I passed warriors I had healed — a Delta whose shoulder I'd reconstructed after a rogue attack, a mother whose son I'd pulled back from silver poisoning. None of them met my eyes. They looked past me, or down, or at the walls, and I understood without asking that Adam had already used his Alpha tone to set the room's behavioral expectations.

A young Gamma directed me to the anteroom off the main hall. "Wait here," he said. He didn't look at me either.

I waited.

Through the thin wall I could hear Adam addressing the crowd. His voice carried — not loud, but deliberate, the cadence of a man who knows he is being listened to.

"Hierarchy exists for a reason," he was saying. "When it breaks down, the pack suffers. When a wolfless female forgets her place and abandons her duties, the pack suffers. Tonight, we restore order."

There was no applause. Just silence, the kind that means people are listening because they've been told to.

I pressed my fingertips to my wrist. My pulse was steady. Too steady. And underneath it, deeper than bone, that pressure again — no longer a whimper, no longer a stirring. Something enormous, testing the boundaries of a space too small for it, like a held breath that had been held for twenty-three years and was finally, finally running out of room.

---

The anteroom door opened.

Rosalind Vega stepped inside, her healer satchel over one shoulder, her face carefully blank. She crossed the room quickly and stopped in front of me, close enough that her voice wouldn't carry.

"I'm here to confirm your credentials," she said, loud enough for anyone listening. Then, quieter, almost a whisper: "The antidote reserve was depleted over months. Adam's direct orders. I have the supply logs."

She reached into her satchel and pulled out a folded stack of papers — three months of diversion records, scent-traced, dated, signed with Adam's authority mark.

"The reserve that remains is wrong," she continued, her voice flat and clinical, the way healers talk when they're delivering a diagnosis they can't fix. "I tested a sample myself. The compound is inverted. It's accelerating the toxicity instead of pulling it back."

She pressed the records into my hands.

I looked at her. She met my eyes for the first time since she'd entered the room, and I saw it there — not defiance, not courage, just exhaustion. The exhaustion of someone who has been complicit in something they couldn't stop and can't carry anymore.

"He poisoned her," I said.

Rosalind's jaw tightened. She said nothing. She didn't need to.

She turned and left the anteroom without another word.

I folded the supply records into my satchel alongside Meilani's treatment notes. My hands were steady. I now held, in my own hands, the evidence that would dismantle Adam's reign — proof of theft, proof of fraud, proof of a deliberate poisoning that could only be explained one way.

But the child was still dying.

And the only way to get the real antidote was to walk through that door.

I pressed my fingertips to my wrist one last time. Then I stood, slung my satchel over my shoulder, and walked toward the pack hall.
