My Husband Used My Father's Life to Clear His Name
Chapter 5
Before leaving, Mason turned around and said, "Don't play tricks. If you dare to call the police, I guarantee that this video will be spread everywhere immediately!"
After they left, I didn't know how much time passed before my phone started ringing.
"Skylar, the funeral time is almost here. Where are you?"
It was Daniel's colleague who urged me.
Yes, I needed to hold the funeral for Daniel first.
I got up and carefully collected his ashes, trying hard to hold back the tears in my eyes for fear of accidentally getting the ashes wet.
The weather outside was gloomy and cold. I held Daniel's ashes as I arrived at the pre-selected burial site.
"Skylar, where is Mason? He was the person whom Daniel took great pride in. Why isn't Mason here to send him off on his final journey?"
His colleagues looked at my unusually weary face and expressed their concern.
I said nothing; I just shook my head.
After Daniel's funeral was completed, I felt empty and deeply saddened in my heart.
I knelt in front of the tombstone, stroking it again and again, wishing he would call me "Skylar" again.
It wasn't until it got late that I reluctantly left.
The next morning, I received a call from the cemetery manager.
"Ms. Mitchell, something happened at Daniel's grave, so please come quickly."
This startled me, making me unable to sleep. Without considering anything else, I rushed towards the cemetery.
After Brenda passed away, Daniel, missing her deeply, had the words "Missing Brenda" engraved on her tombstone.
A long time ago, he jokingly said that after he died, he wanted the words "Missing Brenda" to be engraved on his tombstone as well so that they would be together forever.
"Mr. Murphy, just now the priest said that this burial site is very good and especially suitable for my obedient daughter."
As soon as I came in, I saw Daniel's urn thrown aside casually, and Tiffany was putting another urn into his grave.
"What are you doing?"
I rushed forward like crazy, grabbed the shovel, and waved it in the air.
"Get out! Get out of here!"
He threw herself into Mason's arms and cried bitterly, "Skylar, your father disfigured my face and harassed me again and again. I was so scared that I didn't dare go home, and that's why my daughter starved to death!
"I just want to find a good place to give it a final resting place. Why are you so persistent in stopping me?
"What exactly do you want to do to let me go?"
The "obedient daughter" that Tiffany referred to was actually a Welsh Corgi dog that Mason had bought for her.
I ignored the couple and went straight to dig the half-filled hole.
"Stop, stop, my daughter..."
Mason walked up with a gloomy face and snatched the shovel from my hand.
"Skylar, can you please stop being crazy? Do you want the whole world to see your video?"
He came to threaten me again. I lost Daniel, my home, and everything. What else did I have to be afraid of?
"Mason, this is my dad's grave. My dad is buried here.
"You slandered him and trampled on him. Wouldn't you let him go even if he died?
"You dug up my dad, who raised and nurtured you for decades, all for the sake of a dog. Aren't you afraid of facing consequences?"
His face was blank, and he stared at me with shocked eyes.
I squatted down and dug the soil hard with my hands.
"Skylar, you really did everything you could to hurt me.
"It was your father who was following me yesterday. Now, in order to prevent my obedient daughter from resting peacefully, you're lying and cursing your own father. Aren't you afraid of facing consequences?
"Yeah, with a father like that, how can you be good?"
Tiffany no longer pretended to be innocent, and her eyes were full of malice.
Seeing that my hand was about to touch the urn in the pit, she suddenly screamed, "Quick, catch her! We can't let her disturb my daughter's peace and affect her reincarnation!"
The two bodyguards held me tightly.
"Let me go, you beasts..."
I struggled hard but couldn't break free from their restraints.
Mason slapped me forcefully, and I felt a burning pain on my cheek.
"Skylar, your acting is really flawless! Yesterday, you were holding an urn, and today, you are robbing a grave!
"Are you spying on us?
"Did that old guy teach you to do this?
He sneered, "I really feel sorry for that old guy. He loves you so much, but you keep cursing him to death!
"I really wish he could see you now, full of lies!"
I spit in his face.
"Mason, those who commit unjust acts will not have a good end. You will meet a deserved fate!"
He angrily kicked over the urn and sneered at me, "You can keep pretending, I'll make sure you get exposed for who you truly are!"
As he spoke, Mason stomped on Daniel's ashes as if to vent his emotions.
I watched the scattered ashes being trampled into the mud.
Meanwhile, the bodyguards swiftly covered the grave with soil, and Tiffany carried a bucket of red liquid, revealing a cruel smile on her face.
"My dear daughter is timid and afraid of being harassed by ghosts!
"I heard that pouring red liquid around the grave can prevent any ghosts from entering!"
I suddenly understood the malice in her eyes and was in horror.
"No, don't do that!
"Mason, I beg you. I beg you not to waste the ashes anymore. I will do anything you ask me to do..."
"Mason, I was wrong, I was wrong, please, don't..."
Tears burst forth, and my heart felt like it was being stabbed and torn apart by a sharp blade again and again.
"It's too late to beg for mercy now..."
Mason picked up the red bucket and sprinkled the red liquid on Daniel's ashes.
Daniel, Daniel...
My gaze became vacant, and I slumped to the ground, completely numb.
His phone rang, and he took a look and raised his eyebrows proudly.
"Skylar, no matter how hard you try to cover it up, it's useless. My subordinate have found Daniel!"
Finishing saying that, he pressed the hands-free button.
"Tell me, where is that old guy?"
On the other end of the phone, I could hear the hesitant voice of his assistant, Nathan Walker.
"Mr. Murphy, Mr. Mitchell has been found. He...he has passed away."
Mason paused, then smiled with a look of disdain.
"Did he commit suicide out of fear of crime?"
"Mr. Mitchell died unexpectedly a week ago."
