My Husband Believed Their Lies, So I Showed Him Truth Chapter 1

When we got married, my mother-in-law gifted us a wedding home worth eight hundred thousand dollars.

The location was prime, and every corner of the interior gleamed with top-of-the-line furnishings.

She held my hand warmly and said, “Audrey, this is your home now. Your name will be on the deed.”

“If Marlon ever dares to mistreat you, I’ll be the first to speak up.”

Three years later, her other son came knocking, asking me to sell the house.

He said he wanted to buy a small villa for himself and his wife and planned to have both our families contribute so that the parents could also live with us.

I didn’t argue. I sold the house and handed him the card right away.

That very same day, he stormed into my home with his wife, flinging the card in my face.

“Audrey, what’s the meaning of this? Just two thousand dollars? Are you kidding me?!”

——

Before the wedding, I had made myself clear: I didn’t want a dowry, and I didn’t want my mother-in-law constantly meddling in our lives.

All I asked for was a place to call home.

Big or small, fancy or plain, it didn’t matter.

I just wanted a space where Marlon and I could build our life in peace.

My mother-in-law didn’t hesitate at all. She agreed on the spot and even arranged a commercial apartment for us right in the heart of the city.

The decoration was lavish, gleaming with an elegance that drew admiration from all my colleagues.

They all said I was lucky and blessed to have such a generous and thoughtful mother-in-law.

Unlike theirs, who threw tantrums over the smallest things.

I only smiled, saying nothing.

Marlon and I lived in that apartment for three years.

I cherished it deeply and cared for every corner as if it were a piece of my heart.

As long as that home stood, I felt its warmth wrapped around me.

Then, one day, my brother-in-law and his wife showed up unexpectedly.

“Sis-in-law, Rihanna and I decided to buy a villa in the west district. Over three hundred square meters, two floors, five bedrooms.”

Rihanna jumped in with a smile, “That way, our parents, both our families and the kids will all have space to live together.”

“You know how our parents are struggling with stairs now…”

I studied the two of them quietly.

After three years of watching them closely, I had become cautious.

“How much is the villa?” I asked.

“2.3 million. Don’t worry. Once we sell this place, the rest’s on us.”

My brother-in-law added cheerfully, “This house was bought for 800,000 dollars back then. It’s gone up a lot. Selling it for a million should be no problem.”

He wasn’t wrong. While most properties had dipped in value, the area where I lived had steadily appreciated over the past three years.

With its prime location, high-end furnishings, and meticulous upkeep, a million-dollar sale was more than realistic.

I asked calmly, “What did Mom say?”

After all, she was the one who bought the place. A decision this big couldn’t have happened without her knowing.

Sure enough, my brother-in-law replied quickly, “Mom and Marlon both agreed. We’re just waiting on your nod.”

“Oh? So Mom said I should sell the house?”

What surprised me most was that Marlon already knew long before I did.

Rihanna jumped in enthusiastically, “Sis-in-law, don’t you want to live in a villa? There’s even a yard. You could grow whatever you want.”

I had to admit that part sounded tempting.

I nodded. “Alright then. Since Mom agrees, I’m fine with it, too. Once I sell the house, I’ll give you the card directly.”

My brother-in-law grinned. “No rush. This place will sell fast.”

He and his wife thanked me over and over, complimenting how understanding and well-educated I was.

It took only three days to finalize the deal.

When he returned, I handed him the bank card. “All the money’s in there.”
