My fiancée's card made me a nasty money-worshipper

9.4 / 10.0
Fresh out of college, the protagonist's life takes a dramatic turn when the president's fiancée hosts a spectacular engagement celebration in their honor. Along with the lavish party comes a life-altering gift: an unrestricted secondary credit card to spend at will. Despite the immense temptation and the promise of endless luxury, a firm decision is made. Rather than succumbing to the allure of wealth, they resolve to leave the card completely untouched, setting up a clash of values.

My fiancée's card made me a nasty money-worshipper Chapter 1

When I graduated from college, the president's fiancée held a grand engagement party for me and also issued me a secondary card that I could use as I pleased.

I decided not to touch this card.

She got angry:

"Vivian, you will be my husband from now on. The money I earn is your money. Just spend it as much as you want. If you don't spend my money, does that mean you don't love me anymore? Or do you want to break up with me?"

She begged me with bloodshot eyes to spend her money, otherwise she would not be able to sleep or eat.

I just ordered two FoodDash meals just for fun.

But when I wanted to buy her a luxurious loving lunch, the waiter told me that the card was maxed out.

I sent her a message to confirm the credit limit, and found out that it was a secondary card with a credit limit of 500,000.

I was afraid that she was a forgetful person and would forget that she had swiped the card, so I didn't mention it.

Just wait until the credit limit is restored next month, and then give her some money.

Unexpectedly, she came to my workstation with a bunch of bills and started to scold me:

"Alexander Sterling! Why are you so money-worshiping? I told you to spend as much as you want, not to spend 500,000 in three days!"

"You refused to swipe my card a long time ago because you thought the limit was too small! For a spendthrift like you, it's a good thing I haven't married you yet, otherwise you would have squandered all our wealth in two days!"

She wanted to break off the engagement with me and asked me to return the money.

I took out a red note and handed it to her:

"Then cancel the engagement! You don't have to give me the extra money, save it for buying a coffin!"

She thought I was going to default on my debt, so she hired a top lawyer to settle the score with me.

After checking the accounts, her face turned green.

"Alexander! What do you mean? You dare not admit it, and you curse me to death?"

Vivian Crawford refused to take the hundred-dollar bill I handed over, and her face turned red with anger.

I shrugged, took out another one, and said calmly:

"I only used your card to pay for two meals, totaling $29.9, and you asked me to pay you $500,000 right away. I didn't call the police and report you for extortion, so that's all good."

"What? Not enough? Then I'll give you another one. Please get out of my sight right now!"

She was so furious that she didn't believe that I only spent less than $30.

She threw the supplementary card bill in my face:

"Why are you pretending? How could there be something wrong with your bank statement? Look at what you bought! I've never seen a money-worshiping gigolo like you!"

The long bill fell to the ground and I was too lazy to even look at it.

A colleague who was extremely curious picked it up, gasped after reading it, and looked at me in disbelief:

"Alexander, your spending power is comparable to that of a money-eating beast!"

My colleagues passed it around, and I could hear clearly what was on the bill.

Luxury goods counters, jewelry stores, high-end hotels...

More than a dozen transactions were made within three days, and the 500,000 yuan limit was completely used up.

I snatched back the bill, glanced at it, and pointed directly at the amount of the two FoodDash meals at the bottom:

"These two are the ones I made. The others have nothing to do with me."

Seeing that I didn't admit it, Vivian looked at me with a sneer as if she had heard a huge joke:

"Alexander, I didn't expect you to be this kind of person! The card is in your hand, and you signed the bill, but you told me it wasn't you who paid for it. Did I pay for it?"

"I am the CEO. Any order I sign is worth more than 500,000. Do I have to cheat you out of your money in this way?"

That’s what I wanted to ask too.

I asked the same question in return.

She was so angry that she laughed, and shouted at the subordinates who were watching:

"Family disgrace should not be made public, but some people are shameless and want to take advantage of it. So I ask everyone to be my judge!"

"As you know, Alexander was the childhood sweetheart that my grandfather arranged for me. After he graduated, I held a grand engagement party with him as promised. To show my love for him, I gave him my supplementary card to use at will. He refused to use even a penny of my money at first, and tried to trick me into asking him to spend my money. But—"
