After My Alpha Branded Me for His Mistress

8.3 / 10.0
Zara Pierce's fated bond should have secured her place beside Alpha Bentley Harrison, but instead of claiming her, he casts her aside. Her collarbone still smolders with their mark as he declares rejection before the entire Ironvale Pack, Sadie Bell's perfume lingering on him—a brutal reminder of his choice. The warmth of the mate bond freezes over, leaving Zara to face a devastating future, unmated and humiliated, with no hope of recovery.

After My Alpha Branded Me for His Mistress Chapter 1

The mate bond snapped at 9:04 on a Friday night, right when Bentley Harrison reached for my throat.

I was already tilted back, exposing my collarbone where the fated mark had pulsed warm for three days. But his fingers didn’t pull me closer. They shoved me back. Over his broad shoulder, drowning out his familiar cedar scent, was a thick layer of candied peach and lilac. Sadie Bell’s perfume.

He didn't look into my eyes. He looked over my head, projecting his Alpha voice so hard the rafters of the ceremonial hall rattled.

"I, Bentley Harrison, Alpha of the Ironvale Pack, formally reject you, Zara Pierce, as my fated mate."

The heat on my collarbone turned to liquid nitrogen. The sensation didn’t start as sorrow; it hit like an iron bar across my sternum. The half-formed mark died under my skin, shriveling into ice. Inside my head, my inner wolf—already choked and silenced for years behind the scar on my shoulder—let out a single, furious, glass-shattering shriek. Then, she went completely dead quiet.

Air punched out of my lungs. My knees hit the stone floor. I bit the inside of my cheek until copper filled my mouth, using the physical sting to keep from blacking out. Two seconds. That was all the agony got from me.

"Kneel, Sadie," Bentley said smoothly.

He didn’t offer me a hand. He didn’t even glance down. Sadie stepped out from behind the elder council, her eyes glistening with practiced, doe-like tears. She sank gracefully onto the velvet cushion meant for me, letting out a soft, breathless whimper as Bentley’s teeth sank into the crook of her neck.

The hall stayed dead silent. I pushed myself up off the cold floor, locking my knees until the trembling stopped. I looked across the room. There was Marcus Webb, the Beta whose patrol rotations I mapped every Sunday. There were the frontline Deltas whose supply lines I fought council elders to fund. Every single one of them looked away. Not one jaw tightened. Not one hand went to a blade.

The phantom thread of the snapped bond trailed behind my ribs like raw wire, but I held my chin level. I turned on my heel and walked down the center aisle, leaving the echo of Sadie’s satisfied sigh behind me in the dark.

At seven the next morning, I walked back into the pack house.

I didn't pack clothes. I didn't take the jewelry Bentley had given me after successful border treaties. I carried one manila folder.

Bentley sat behind the massive oak desk in the Alpha suite, a cup of black coffee steaming near his elbow. Sadie was curled on the leather sofa in one of his oversized flannel shirts, bare legs tucked beneath her, watching me over the rim of a mug with a faint, cat-like smirk.

Bentley leaned back, his lips curling into that familiar, arrogant grin. "Come to plead your case, Zara? If you want to stay on as pack strategist, we can discuss terms. But you have to respect Sadie's position as Luna."

I didn't answer. I dropped the two-page document directly onto his blotter.

"Sign it," I said. My voice was level, dry, and flat.

Bentley’s smirk twitched. He glanced down, reading the bold header: *Formal Severance of Pack Allegiance and Strategic Resignation.*

"You're bluffing," he scoffed, though his eyes darted across the clauses. "You don't have anywhere to go. You’re packless without Ironvale."

"You have thirty seconds to sign, Bentley, or I take the northern border defense contracts to the open market," I told him. "Sign."

His jaw clenched. Anger flared in his dark eyes, and a heavy wash of Alpha aura rolled off him, slamming against my chest like a wall. A normal pack wolf would have dropped to their knees. But my wolf was already buried deep, numbed by the wolfsbane he had once pressed into my flesh, and the mate bond was severed. His command slipped off me like water on slate.

Seeing that his aura didn't make me flinch, Bentley scowled. He grabbed a pen, scratched his jagged signature across the bottom of the page, and threw the pen down.

"You have until sundown to clear your things out of the east wing," he barked. Then, with a nasty little laugh, he reached behind his chair and pulled out a heavy bundle of fabric. "Take this, too. A parting gift from your Alpha."

He tossed it. The fabric unfurled in the air and hit my chest.

It was a heavy cloak. Pure, brilliant crimson.

The color hit my eyes like a branding iron. It was the exact shade of the red-hot iron he had pressed into my left shoulder three years ago—punishment for altering his reckless troop movements and saving forty warriors from an ambush. He called it discipline. The wolfsbane brand had burned crimson while it crippled my beast.

I held the cloak for one second. Two.

Then I let my fingers open. The silk dropped into a heap at his boots.

"You never once learned what hurts me," I said quietly.

I turned toward the door.

"Zara, wait—" Bentley snapped, his chair screeching back as he realized I hadn't taken the folder containing the seasonal cipher codes.

I didn't stop. I walked through the heavy double doors, leaving the encrypted server codes locked permanently in my head. Down the hall, I heard Bentley punch the intercom on his desk, his voice rising in sudden panic as the main border terminal flashed red.
