Chapter 4

I no longer cared that Chelsea was Philip's fiancée and spoke with a tone full of threat.

"Breaking into a private residence without permission, destroying private property! Assaulting a pregnant woman—these are enough to put you in prison for years! Chelsea, think carefully!"

But Chelsea didn't believe me and kicked me right in the stomach!

A wave of intense pain surged through me again!

This time, I couldn't say a word of explanation or warning; I could only curl up on the ground, chest pressed to my knees, writhing in excruciating pain!

But Chelsea's face was still filled with a heavy malice.

It seemed she wouldn't let me go until this was resolved to her satisfaction.

"I told you, you messed with the wrong person! You think you, looking so shabby, could dream of getting my husband? Go to hell!"

She grabbed my face so tightly that I couldn't move, easily allowing her to press her knee into my stomach.

I looked up at Chelsea, and it was as if she had lost her mind; the pressure from her knee increased steadily, giving me no chance to fight back!

At that moment, I had only one thought in my mind. This baby must be saved!

This was my husband's child!

"Chelsea, won't this lead to death?"

Finally, someone behind Chelsea spoke up to stop her.

But just as the thought formed, Chelsea pushed them back.

"What are you afraid of? My husband is a CEO, my mother-in-law is the richest woman in the city—if anything happens, they will cover for me! We're just teaching a mistress a lesson; why are you scared?"

The girl behind me trembled and approached, but seeing my face covered in blood, she was also scared and backed off.

"But she's pregnant; if she has a miscarriage..."

Chelsea stood up and casually shoved the girl, causing her to stumble back and instantly shut up.

"This is a bastard! It must not be kept! I brought you here to back me up; if anything happens, I'll take the blame! What are you afraid of? My mother-in-law loves me so much; she'll definitely help me clean up the mess!"

"But you haven't even met your mother-in-law yet..."

"My mother-in-law said she would love anyone Philip loves! No matter what trouble I get into, she'll cover for me. Besides, teaching a mistress a lesson is the right thing to do; even if my mother-in-law were here, she would support me!"

Just as she finished speaking, someone ran out from the side of the living room holding a porcelain urn, panicking as they reported to Chelsea.

"Chelsea, does it look like ashes in this jar? Should I smash it?"

That was my husband's ashes!

After his accident, I brought his ashes back to the country.

I was planning to settle his ashes properly after my son got his marriage certificate.

My husband was the only man in my life; we shared over twenty years of deep love and devotion.

We built our wealth from scratch, becoming the richest in Rossie City, all because my husband was there to support me along the way.

But today...

"Smash!"

At Chelsea's command, the person raised the urn, ready to smash it to the ground.

With my last breath, I tried desperately to stand up.

"Don't smash it! That's my husband's ashes!"

Maybe my voice was too hoarse and terrifying, as the person holding the urn hesitated for a moment and immediately stopped.

He looked at Chelsea, then back at me, unsure of what to do next, waiting for her instructions.

But Chelsea just looked at me with amusement, squatting down to mock me.

"Your husband? So, you're really a married woman? Hah, even in death, your husband can't find peace!"

"What kind of wife becomes someone else's mistress so soon after her husband's death? Or maybe he died of anger because he discovered you were cheating?"

My eyes were bloodshot from the beating, and my vision was blurry.

When Chelsea ridiculed me, I could only let out muffled sobs, unable to form a complete sentence.

"Are you so agitated because you feel guilty about your husband deep down? If that's the case, then this child can't be kept!"

She glanced at the urn, remaining silent for a long time, as if she had come up with a brilliant idea.

Sure enough, Chelsea clapped her hands and stood up, giving a contemptuous order.

"Scatter the ashes and smash the urn!"

"No!"

The room was filled with my cries for help and pleas to stop.

But it turned out that I was still at a disadvantage, no matter how hard I struggled, I couldn't escape Sarah King's control.

I never thought that, as the richest person in Rossie City, there would come a day when I would be trampled and abused by my future daughter-in-law!

When I saw the urn shatter, it felt like my heart cracked along with it.

Chelsea and her friends were elated, even praising her.

"Chelsea, I really envy you for having such a supportive mother-in-law. Even if you cause trouble, she'll cover for you. Sure, your husband made a mistake, but he's at least the CEO of three companies! A man like that can be forgiven for anything."

Chelsea laughed smugly, looking at me like I was nothing more than an ant, utterly disdainful.

"Of course! Once I marry Philip, everything in this house will be mine! All of my mother-in-law's wealth will eventually be inherited by me!"

Philip once told me that Chelsea was a simple, sweet girl, not worldly, unlike those vain girls.

Now I could see clearly—she was just a gold-digger!

She was after our family's money and didn't care about Philip at all!

Birds of a feather flock together, after all!

Chelsea's friends, saying such immoral things, were probably no better than her.

Just as I was thinking this, someone stared at my pregnancy report and raised a question.

"Didn't you say your mother-in-law is Yvette, the richest woman in Rossie City? But look at this pregnancy report; it says the name is Yvette too."

"And she just said she's Philip's mother. Could we have... attacked the wrong person?"
