Chapter 5

Adam leaned in close in a flash and whispered, "Mommy went to be with Daddy. Daddy says you're pathetic and a poor man. You don't even have kids of your own, yet you want to take us away."

His eyes gleamed with mockery. "This is Mommy’s house. We all hate you. Why are you still here?"

A lump suddenly longed in my throat as an icy numbness settled over me. I stared blankly at the direction of the door. How could she lie so shamelessly to me, was she trying to rip my heart out?

I sat in a stupefied state on the sofa as I watched the two children laughing and playing all over the place.

I reached for my phone, wanting to call Sandra to ask her about it. However, before I could dial the number, Adam snatched it from my hands, threw it onto the floor and instantly shattered the screen.

His face twisted into a nasty look. "You're not allowed to call her. Mommy is on a date with Daddy."

"Stop trying to ruin things for them. You’re just a useless freeloader. Mommy only keeps you around out of pity." After he said that, he made faces at me and stuck his tongue out.

My chest tightened. Even the children saw me as a worthless man. They thought I only lived off their mother, Sandra. No wonder no one blamed Sandra for having another family and child with Morgan.

All of a sudden, Adam Wilson reached out his hand and grabbed my phone and the glass shards cut his and blood began to drip. Meanwhile, Anna Wilson made a phone call.

Sandra and Morgan arrived in no time. Morgan rushed forward and cradled Adam's injured hand, his voice thick with worry as he asked over and over again.

Adam was sobbing and choking as he accused me, "It was him! He got mad and threw his phone. I was just trying to pick it up and then he called me …  a bastard … and told me to get lost."

“Dad, I am afraid, I want to go home. Anna clung tightly to Morgan. Her body trembled in terror.

Morgan's eyes burned with fury as he looked at me. His tone filled with restrained anger as he spat furiously, "Mr. Hamilton, I know I was at fault here. I shouldn't have fallen in love with Sandra. I left this country for years because I didn’t want to interfere in your marriage. However, Adam is just a child. If you have a problem, take it out on me. Hit me, curse me, I’ll accept it."

As he said that, his eyes turned red.

A sense of helplessness rose inside of me and I opened my mouth to explain, but before I could Sandra had delivered a hard slap on my face. Smack!

Sandra’s expression was colder than I had ever seen in my life then she said, "I get that you’re upset, but I never thought you’d take it out on a child."

Her eyes were so cold when she said the word. They were so sharp that I felt my heart being pierced by a thousand swords.

"Regan, this is the Wilson Family and Adam is the true heir of this Wilson Family. What right do you have to call him a bastard and tell him to leave?"

Before I could explain anything, Sandra had already turned around, picked Adam, cradled him with heartache and left with Morgan and Anna.

A long time passed before I pulled out the divorce papers and placed them neatly on the coffee table. Then, I packed my bags.

However, before leaving, I paused, pulled up the security footage, sent it to Sandra's phone and blocked her number.

I called my friend. "Luke, I'm ready. Come and pick me up."
