Chapter 2

I closed my eyes briefly as memories flooded my mind.

Twenty years ago, when I was falsely accused and ostracized in college, Sandra stood up for me and from that moment on, I had fallen for the bold and beautiful Sandra.

I thought we were destined to be parallel lines and we would never cross paths.

However, a year after graduation, her family faced a financial crisis. Her illegitimate half-sister and a scumbag conspired to forge contracts and embezzle company assets.

As the Wilson Corporation teetered on the brink of bankruptcy, I quit my job without hesitation and joined the company.

Sandra and I spent years pleading with investors, swallowing our pride, drinking our way through business meetings just to secure orders.

It took five years to bring Wilson Corporation back to life.

When I finally married Sandra, she said she never wanted children because she had been deeply hurt by her half-sister. I made the decisive choice that I got myself a vasectomy on our wedding day.

A year later, under pressure from both our families, I endured the rumors and presented my medical diagnosis that I had a fertility problem. From then on, tonics and herbal remedies poured endlessly down my throat.

Sandra held me tenderly and her eyes were full of concern as she said, "Regan, let's us just tell them the truth. This much medicine isn’t good for you ..."

I looked at her seriously and asked, "Are you sure you can handle their pressure? Since not wanting children and being unable to have them are two different things. However, as long as you've made up your mind, I'll support you."

Sandra hesitated.

Back then, I told her that if she ever overcame her fears and wanted a child, I would undergo surgery to reverse the procedure and give us a baby of our own.

She nodded and agreed.

Ten years ago, my in-laws suddenly stopped pressuring us. My mother-in-law no longer rolled her eyes at me or forced me to drink herbal medicine.

They moved abroad to enjoy their retirement and left the entire house to Sandra and me. I thought they had finally come to terms with our decision.

However, it turned out the Wilson Corporation already had an heir, a pair of twins. Only then did I discover that the six years she said she spent "studying abroad" were actually used to give birth.

While suppressing my anguish, I asked, "Sandra, can you even distinguish between responsibility and love? Don't you think this is cruel to me? Didn’t you make me look like a complete fool? Do you think I’m a fool?"

When Sandra saw how upset I was, a trace of guilt flashed on her face and apologized, "I'm sorry, Regan. I just didn’t want you to suffer through surgery but I also wanted to fulfill my dream of being a mother."

Then she added, "Can you see that they are not interfering with our life and I can also help Morgan to fulfill his duty toward his parent? If you want to, the children can even respect and honor you as their father in the future."
