# Chapter 5: The Final Betrayal

## The Public Rejection

The pack gathering ground was bathed in morning light, but I felt nothing of its warmth. Hundreds of eyes watched as I stood alone in the center of the circle, my back straight despite the weight crushing my chest.

Rhett approached from the Alpha's residence, Violeta clinging to his arm. Her face was a perfect mask of concern, but I caught the gleam of triumph in her eyes.

"Members of the Nexus Pack," Rhett's voice carried across the grounds. "I've called you here for a solemn purpose."

I knew what was coming. The formal rejection—the final severing of whatever remained between us.

"Parker Collins has served this pack with dedication," he continued, his words hollow. "But circumstances demand a difficult decision."

Violeta pressed closer to him, her hand protectively over her stomach. The pack's collective gaze shifted between us, some with pity, others with judgment.

"For the protection of my heir and the future of this pack," Rhett's voice hardened, "I must take action that I never anticipated."

He stepped forward, his Alpha aura flaring around him like dark fire. I forced myself to meet his eyes as he spoke the words that would sever our bond forever.

"I, Rhett Wagner, Alpha of the Nexus Pack, reject you, Parker Collins, daughter of Alpha Thomas Collins of the Silver Moon Pack."

The formal words hung in the air between us. Seven years of sacrifice, of love, of building an empire from nothing—all reduced to this ritualistic dismissal.

"You are hereby stripped of all rank and privilege within this territory," he continued mechanically. "You have twenty-four hours to vacate the premises."

The pack remained silent, their faces blurring together as I fought to maintain my composure.

"Do you accept this rejection?" Rhett demanded, his voice carrying the unmistakable command of an Alpha.

I could have fought. I could have exposed Violeta's lies right there. But what would it accomplish? The pack had already chosen.

"Accepted," I said simply, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me.

Not a single tear fell as I turned away from the man I'd loved, the pack I'd built, and the life I'd sacrificed everything for.

## The Discovery

The pack house felt like a stranger's home as I packed my belongings. Twenty-four hours—that's all the time I had to erase seven years of my existence from these walls.

I moved methodically through my office, gathering the few personal items I could call my own. The tactical maps I'd drawn, the financial ledgers I'd maintained—all evidence of my contribution to this pack's rise.

As I closed the last drawer, something caught my eye—a discrepancy in the quarterly report I'd reviewed just days ago. The numbers didn't match my memory.

I pulled out the ledger again, flipping through pages with growing suspicion. Beta Crawford had been responsible for managing the pack's treasury since his promotion—a position I'd recommended him for.

"Interesting," I murmured, tracing the altered figures.

The door to the archives was unlocked—unusual for a room containing sensitive pack records. Inside, I found more evidence of systematic embezzlement. Funds diverted, receipts falsified, all pointing to Crawford's corruption.

But it was what I found in the trash that stopped my heart.

A crumpled receipt from the pack's medical supplier: "Moonshade and Snakeroot—special order for V. Dunn."

My fingers trembled as I smoothed out the paper. Those herbs weren't medicine—they were used to mask scents and mimic hormonal changes. Specifically, pregnancy.

"The clever little bitch," I whispered, the pieces falling into place.

## The Confrontation

I found Beta Crawford alone in the archives, hunched over a computer screen. He didn't look surprised when I entered.

"Going through some old files before I leave," I said casually, watching his reaction.

Crawford's eyes flickered to the door behind me. "Finding everything you need?"

"I found enough," I replied, sliding the receipt across the desk. "Care to explain?"

His expression didn't change. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Moonshade and Snakeroot," I said flatly. "Herbs used to fake pregnancy pheromones. Did you think I wouldn't figure it out?"

Crawford leaned back in his chair, studying me with new respect. "You always were too smart for your own good, Parker."

"And you're too greedy for yours," I countered. "The Council will be interested in both the embezzlement and the conspiracy."

Something shifted in his eyes—a calculation, a decision.

"You won't make it to the Council," he said quietly.

Before I could react, the door behind me burst open. Gamma Derek stood there, his massive frame blocking any escape.

"Violeta's idea," Crawford explained as Derek moved toward me. "She thought you might cause problems."

I backed away, but my movements were sluggish. The severed mate bond had weakened me more than I'd realized, and three days without proper rest had left me vulnerable.

"You can't do this," I said, searching for an opening. "The pack will never accept—"

"The pack will accept whatever we tell them," Crawford interrupted. "Especially when you've disappeared into rogue territory."

Derek lunged forward as I tried to dodge past him. My reflexes were too slow, my strength not enough.

As darkness closed in around me, one thought crystallized with perfect clarity: This was never just about Violeta wanting to be Luna. This was about power, money, and getting rid of the one person who could see through their schemes.

Me.
