Chapter 1

Seven months pregnant. Stuck at home on bed rest. Anxiety clawing at my chest as I scrolled obsessively through posts.

"Should I make my husband try a labor simulation?"

A reply with photos caught my eye.

"Definitely! My boyfriend did one and swore he'd never let me go through that. But I'm about to become a mom anyway."

Someone challenged her: "If you're not giving birth, where's the baby coming from?"

The poster replied smugly: "My boyfriend's wife spent five years trying to conceive and finally got pregnant. Once she delivers, the baby's mine."

"She's seven months along now, just sitting at home like an idiot, waiting to give birth. Has no clue whose baby it really is."

Five years of trying. Seven months pregnant. I knew exactly how brutal that journey was.

I couldn't stop the rage boiling inside me at this shameless woman.

I kept scrolling—and froze.

A 4D ultrasound photo.

My breath stopped. She was showing off a picture of my baby.

——

Hands trembling, I pulled up my own ultrasound from the last appointment and compared them side by side.

I wasn't wrong. That was my child she was flaunting.

No wonder I couldn't see any resemblance to myself in those images.

I tapped into her profile and found her previous viral post.

"Documenting my boyfriend's labor simulation experience "

Her boyfriend's face wasn't visible, but I caught something else.

The tattoo on his left ring finger. The hand he kept clenched tight.

Identical to Tim Gilbert's.

My heart seized. I gripped my belly, gasping for air.

No wonder Tim had recoiled every time I mentioned doing a labor simulation together.

He'd already done it. With her.

He knew exactly how excruciating childbirth was—bones splitting apart, ten centimeters of agony.

And he'd decided to use my body to give another woman a child.

The comments below were vicious.

"Everyone upvote this! That poor woman needs to see it. She can't be tricked into being a surrogate for some homewrecker!"

"Even if she gives birth, there's no way she's handing over that baby. Once a mistress, always a mistress."

"I feel so bad for her. Seven months along... she probably can't bring herself to terminate."

The poster responded to every single comment.

"So what if she sees it? She's old. Seven months pregnant. If she terminates now, she'll never have another child."

"Don't worry about it. My boyfriend says she quit her job for bed rest. Once the baby's past nursing age, he's filing for divorce."

"The divorce will be easy. She's got this thing about emotional purity—can't stand betrayal. Add postpartum depression to the mix, and she'll be the one begging to leave."

The smugness dripped from every word.

She was right about one thing. I did have that "thing about emotional purity."

And because my third-trimester symptoms had been so severe, I'd had to quit my job. The financial pressure alone was crushing me.

Postpartum depression? Almost guaranteed.

"Stop being jealous, everyone. The only reason she couldn't conceive for five years? My boyfriend wasn't done having fun yet."

"All those fertility supplements she took? He swapped every single one for birth control pills."

I yanked open my nightstand drawer and stared at the leftover pills from my last fertility cycle.

Could it be true? Were these laced with contraceptives?

I called a delivery service and had them rush the pills to the nearest lab for testing.

Then I sat there, eyes glued to the screen, waiting for her next reply.

Maybe it was dinnertime. The poster went quiet.

No matter how viciously people attacked her, she didn't respond.

I rested my hand on my swollen belly.

For this child, I'd endured countless injections. My feet were so swollen I could barely walk.

Because of one unverified post, I was supposed to—what? Terminate at seven months?

I couldn't. I wouldn't.

My mind buzzed with chaos, thoughts tangling into knots.

If I confronted Tim now—

Without evidence, he'd just accuse me of pregnancy paranoia.

Then a new comment appeared.

"Stay jealous, ladies My boyfriend just cooked me an entire homemade dinner. He snuck away from his busy schedule to eat with me. He doesn't have time for you haters."
