Chapter 6

En un ataque de rabia, Estelle estranguló a Gretchen y la aplastó contra la pared mientras la miraba fijamente.

¡Fue culpa tuya! ¡Toda esta situación ha sido por tu culpa, maldita desalmada! ¡Mi padre murió por tu culpa! ¡Cristofer rompió conmigo por tu culpa! ¡Mi hijo tiene septicemia por tu culpa!

¡VETE AL INFIERNO, maldita perra!

Gretchen no esperaba que Estelle la estrangulara. Incapaz de moverse, dijo con enfado, "¿Cómo te atreves a poner tus manos sobre mí, Estelle Hudson? ¡Solo vas a irritar más a Cristofer!"

Estelle se burló. "No me importa si lo irrito porque de todas formas me estoy muriendo. ¿Por qué no te llevo conmigo?"

"¡Quita tus manos de mí! ¿Estás loca?"

"¡No tengo nada que perder, Gretchen Abrams! Incluso si te estrangulo hasta la muerte, solo seré condenada a la pena de muerte. Es solo otra forma de morir, pero es menos dolorosa. ¡Y tengo que agradecerte por ofrecerme la oportunidad de matarte!"

El pánico apareció en los ojos de Gretchen mientras luchaba con fuerza. "¿Y tu hijo? ¡Si te atreves a lastimarme, tu hijo definitivamente morirá!"

"Si ese es el caso, ¡definitivamente te hundirás con él!"

"Estelle Hudson, ¿qué estás haciendo?"

"¡Qué ciego eres, Cristofer!", lloró Estelle.

Gretchen había hecho un cálculo astuto para asegurarse de que Cristofer llegara justo a tiempo para ver lo histérica que Estelle podía ser cuando era provocada.

Estelle estaba descorazonada.

Toda su esperanza había desaparecido.

Cristofer dijo: "Estelle, divórciate de mí ahora mismo porque no quiero aplazarlo más".

"¡Ni hablar!", Estelle se negó resueltamente, "No me voy a divorciar de ti hasta dentro de siete días".

"¿Qué demonios te pasa?"

"Hay algo mal conmigo. Estoy enferma. Te lo dije, pero no me creíste", dijo Estelle, tomando una profunda respiración mientras sus ojos se llenaban gradualmente de un frío desprecio. "Cristofer, te ordeno que mires las estrellas conmigo por las próximas siete noches, ¡o de lo contrario lastimaré a tu preciosa Gretchen!"

Cristofer sacudió la cabeza. "¿Qué pasa si digo que no?"

"Entonces haré cualquier cosa para acabar con ella. ¿Y puedes protegerla para siempre? ¡Hace cinco años logré matar a tus padres, y ni hablar de Gretchen Abrams!"

"¡Estelle!"

"Solo son siete días. ¿Tu boda será en siete días, verdad? En siete días, me divorciaré de ti y saldré de tu vida para siempre."

Cristofer frunció el ceño y la miró.

Con una mueca, ella continuó: "No te preocupes. No te obligaré a dormir conmigo. Lo único que tienes que hacer es mirar las estrellas conmigo".

Con los ojos fijos en Estelle, Cristofer frunció el ceño y permaneció en silencio.

Estelle sabía que él era reacio a aceptar su propuesta.

Para ser exactos, él estaba más que dispuesto a destrozarla en pedazos por haber lastimado a Gretchen, su amada mujer. Y era posible que él mirara las estrellas con Estelle voluntariamente.

Pero no sabía que una mujer patéticamente débil como Estelle no podía lastimar a nadie en absoluto. Era tan delgada que el viento fácilmente podía llevársela. Si Gretchen no la hubiera provocado deliberadamente para hacer un escándalo, Estelle ni siquiera habría tocado su ropa.

Hablando de ropa, Estelle echó un vistazo al vestido de Gretchen que solía pertenecerle.

Era un vestido blanco y rosa de crepé, bordado con flores malva. El vestido era realmente encantador.

A Cristofer le encantaban los patrones florales. En el antiguo armario de Estelle, ocho de cada diez vestidos tenían tales patrones. Fue él quien se los compró.

El vestido de Gretchen estaba ordenado, sin ninguna arruga, y los patrones en él no habían cambiado en absoluto, al igual que su actual dueña, fresca y destacada.

En cuanto a su dueña original, Estelle, parecía marchita y miserable con sus ojos llorosos, como si el dolor hubiera penetrado en sus huesos frágiles.

Estelle sonrió ligeramente. "Señorita Abrams, ¿puedo preguntar a qué se dedica?"

Al oír eso, Gretchen tembló de repente de terror y se aferró a los brazos de Cristofer, diciendo con voz coqueta: "Cristofer..."

"No te preocupes. Yo te protegeré. No dejaré que ella te lastime", la voz de Cristofer fue más que amable mientras rodeaba la cintura de Gretchen y acariciaba su cabello.

Pero cuando miró a Estelle, la ternura en sus ojos desapareció instantáneamente.

"¿Por qué quieres saber sobre eso?", preguntó Cristofer.

Estelle respondió con una risita, "Solo tengo curiosidad".

"No es asunto tuyo. Estelle, te aconsejo que no te metas con Gretchen", advirtió Cristofer.

"Cristofer Hans, te aconsejo que no me hables de esta manera porque no sé lo que podría hacer cuando me vuelva loca", respondió Estelle.

"Tú..."

Estelle casi se rió a carcajadas al ver que Cristofer estaba tan furioso, pero no se atrevió a responder por el bien de Gretchen.

Todos tenían un talón de Aquiles.

El talón de Aquiles de Estelle era su hijo, mientras que el de Cristofer era Gretchen.

Estelle se dijo a sí misma, 'Ya que soy una villana en tu corazón, ¿por qué no ir aún más lejos y convertirme en una villana aún más malvada?'

Luego pasó por delante de ellos, abrió la puerta y entró en la villa. Antes de cerrar la puerta, le dijo a Cristofer: "Te esperaré en la azotea a las siete de esta noche".
