Chapter 7

Cuando Estelle miró afuera, encontró que Cristofer y Gretchen ya se habían ido.

Él podría haber llevado a Gretchen al hospital.

¡Qué rápido se ha ido! Debe estar muy preocupado por Gretchen.

Después de todo, un hombre como él protegería a sus seres queridos de todas las maneras posibles.

Estelle, antes una niña mimada para él, había sido gradualmente percibida como basura por él, y por eso Gretchen logró reemplazarla.

Ya no importaba. Lo que estaba hecho, estaba hecho, y ella no podía cambiar nada. Todo lo que esperaba era quedar embarazada y salvar a su hijo.

Estelle sacó su teléfono, lo fijó en un soporte y presionó el botón de grabación de video.

Mostró una sonrisa gentil frente a la cámara, "Mi niño, esta es mamá. No sé si verás este video. Pero cuando lo veas, es posible que ya no pueda estar a tu lado. Sin embargo, no estés triste. Estaré en otro mundo donde hay flores, hierba, montañas y ríos. Será hermoso y también ... tranquilo."

Ella sonrió con ternura de madre en sus ojos.

"Es posible que no pueda verte crecer, pero debes creer que Mamá te ama profundamente. He estado pensando en qué nombre te conviene mejor durante mucho tiempo. Y hoy, finalmente se me ocurrió el mejor: Yohan, que significa sol, porque espero que siempre estés lleno de alegría y energía, como el sol".

"Yohan, si me extrañas, solo mira las estrellas. Mamá siempre estará allí para cuidarte todas las noches".

Con lágrimas en los ojos, se ahogó y de inmediato se tapó la boca y detuvo la grabación, porque no quería que Yohan la viera llorar así.

Después de guardar el video en una unidad USB, Estelle bajó las escaleras y lo envió por correo.

Cristofer entró en la villa exactamente a las siete en punto.

"Ahí estás."

Estelle había pasado tres horas maquillándose para ocultar su palidez frente al espejo. Finalmente, se veía un poco mejor.

Cristofer gruñó: "¡Maldita sea, Estelle!"

Sus palabras la lastimaron. "¿Qué pasa?"

"¡Gretchen tuvo un aborto espontáneo!"

Estuvo confundida, pero pronto se dio cuenta de lo que él quería decir. "¿Crees que tuvo un aborto espontáneo porque la lastimé hoy?"

"¿Me equivoco?" preguntó retóricamente. "¡Puedes hacer lo que quieras conmigo! ¿Porqué lastimaste a Gretchen? ¡Nunca ha lastimado a nadie!"

Estelle sacudió la cabeza. "Cristofer, no entiendes a las mujeres."

"No necesito entender."

"Sí, lo necesitas", se levantó y lo enfrentó. "Lo que más le importa a una mujer es su hijo. Ella hará lo mejor para protegerlos de cualquier peligro e incluso se sacrificará si es necesario."

Dijo fríamente: "Nunca has sido madre. ¿Qué te hace pensar que eres elegible para decir eso?"

Estelle lo miró firmemente. "Nadie es más elegible que yo para decir eso, ¡especialmente Gretchen Abrams! Si supiera que estaba embarazada, no habría intentado tanto conseguir mi dirección y decir esas palabras para provocarme a que la estrangulara."

Indignado, Cristofer apretó fuertemente su cuello. "¡Estelle Hudson, te mataré si algo le pasa a Gretchen!"

Sin aliento, ella sintió un dolor cada vez más agudo, pero estaba sonriendo. "¿De verdad?"

"Lo digo en serio".

"Oh", señaló la mano en su cuello y dijo: "Ya veo. ¿Puedes quitarme las manos de encima ahora?"

Cristofer no soltó pero la miró fijamente. "¿Qué demonios quieres?"

Una leve sonrisa apareció en su rostro. "Sé que tal vez no creas esto, pero todo lo que quiero eres tú."

Al escuchar eso, él la arrojó sin piedad sobre la cama. Luego ella tosió violentamente otra vez, y sus palabras hirientes llegaron a sus oídos: "Sigue soñando".

La sangre brotaba de su garganta, pero ella luchó por tragarla de vuelta. Luego, se puso de pie y tomó su mano como si nada hubiera pasado. "Vamos a ver las estrellas".

Cristofer esquivó su mano con disgusto. "Solo acepté ver las estrellas contigo. No me toques".

Sus palabras la avergonzaron, pero afortunadamente, el cielo estrellado la complació mucho.

La luna era grande y redonda, como un espejo plateado. Las estrellas brillaban a su alrededor, emitiendo una luz serena y tranquila.

Cristofer dijo: "Revisé el pronóstico del tiempo. Estará nublado o lluvioso desde mañana hasta fin de mes".

Estelle asintió. "¿Y qué?"

"No habrá estrellas en días nublados."

Ella no estuvo de acuerdo. "Solo estarán cubiertas por nubes oscuras y no desaparecerán. Siempre están en el cielo, aunque a veces sean invisibles."

Así como las estrellas, ella no era tan brillante como el sol, pero siempre estaba allí y nunca se iba.

Había estado esperando allí mismo a que Cristofer volviera con ella.

Durante estos años, había pensado más de una vez que mientras él le sonriera o dijera una palabra de preocupación, ella volvería a él sin dudarlo.

Sin embargo, su deseo nunca se cumplió.

Otra mujer ya ocupaba sus ojos y corazón, y ya no había lugar para ella.

Cristofer dijo: "Quiero decir, no hay necesidad de ver las estrellas en las siguientes seis noches".

"¿No quieres ver las estrellas conmigo?"

Se rió sarcásticamente. "¿En qué estás pensando? Tu padre mató a mis padres. Si no fuera por Gretchen, ¿crees que vería estas estúpidas estrellas con una mujer vil e ingrata?"

Hacía bastante viento en el techo. Ella estaba sentada precariamente al borde, con las piernas colgando. Tanto su vestido como su cabello suelto flotaban en el aire.

De pie justo detrás de ella, Cristofer extendió su mano derecha y estaba a punto de tocar su delgado espalda.

Justo en ese momento, ella habló, como si hubiera visto todos sus movimientos claramente, "¿Querías empujarme del techo?"

La mano extendida de Cristofer se detuvo en el aire.

Estelle murmuró para sí misma: "¡Qué idea brillante! Terminar con todo empujándome desde aquí, y luego nadie podrá impedir que vivas feliz para siempre con Gretchen Abrams".

Avergonzado, retiró su mano y volvió su rostro hacia otro lado. "No soy como tú, que asesinó cruelmente a aquellos que la amaban. Por mucho que te odie y quiera que desaparezcas para siempre, no elegiré un método tan despreciable."
