Chapter 4

The room looked more like a trap than a meeting place. Dark shadows covered the walls, while the only light came from a small lamp in the corner that glowed weakly, like a fire that had barely died out.

The air around us felt thick, full of tension that seeped in silently, like an invisible threat ready to pounce.

Lucas stood before me, staring with a look in his eyes that made my entire body tense up. Every word that escaped his lips echoed in my mind, sharper than a razor piercing my chest.

“You feel entitled to hate me, Isabella? Why not just kill me?”

I paused for a moment, trying to control the turbulent feelings. His voice, his sly smile, everything brought back old wounds that I thought had been buried. With a voice that I tried to keep calm, I replied, “Maybe I should, Lucas. You don't know how deep this wound is.”

His smile faded, replaced with a gaze full of mystery and pent-up hatred. A gaze that should have been nauseating, yet somehow compelling. It was as if, in the darkness that enveloped this room, only she could fill the void.

“The wound is indeed painful, Isabella. But do you know that I can heal it?”

His tone seemed to promise, but I knew that promise was dangerous-like a rope ready to strangle my neck. My heart pounded, my feelings conflicted between anger and shameful attraction.

“Don't ever again underestimate my pain. You're a nobody in my life.”

Lucas smiled faintly, his steps slowly approaching, as if deliberately forcing my fear to appear. I took a step back, but a cold wall blocked my back.

“But I know more about you than you thought. Are you sure you want to stay away from me?”

His gaze burned, disturbing memories that should have been untouched. My heartbeat quickened, pounding like a hammer against my chest. What did he know?

Why did every word he said make me want to know more, while staying as far away as possible?

In the suffocating silence, I said, “If you know about this wound, maybe you also know I'm better off without you.”

Lucas chuckled, the sound shattering the calm I had maintained.

“Who said wounds should be avoided, Isabella? Sometimes, a wound is the only way to heal.”

I tried not to show weakness, but the look in his eyes penetrated to the deepest layers of my defenses. His words weren't just a threat; they were a reminder of my own pain, of a past full of secrets.

He stepped closer, making me tremble. There was a magnetism between us that could not be ignored-an attraction that was at once terrifying. However, I wouldn't let him touch me deeply.

“Really, Lucas? Are you sure you can handle all of this?”

I could feel the panic inside me, but I held back. This was a dangerous game and I wasn't going to be victimized once again.

“I'm not playing, Isabella. This is your life at stake. You just haven't realized how deep this game is yet.”

Every word Lucas spoke shook my confidence. Did he really know something? In my mind, my curiosity burned like an unquenchable fire.

“Maybe I should remind you who's controlling this game. Not you, not me. But our past.”

My voice was full of emotion as I said those words. She wasn't the only one with secrets. A feeling welled up inside me, wanting to counter his every threat with a strong statement.

“I'll bet you don't know how much I can show you about yourself.”

Suddenly, the flash of memories came back. Haunting images of the past-lost figures, broken promises, and betrayals that had me down.

“One day, Isabella, you will realize who you are really dealing with. And when that happens, I will be waiting.”

His voice was calm, as if hinting at something more than a threat. There was something behind his smile; a plan that was already tightly woven. But how could I trust him?

When I turned around, my steps halted for a moment. In the corner of the room, there was a faint shadow that sent chills down my spine. Was it just my imagination, or was someone watching us?

“Isabella, you can't escape reality. Whoever is behind you will show no mercy.”

His words painted a grim picture in my mind. An outside force trying to take everything away from me. I had to survive, but where could I find refuge?

“And if you don't want to hear, let me tell you one thing: I know about Luca. And I'm not afraid of the shadows of the past.”

The words spilled from my lips without thinking. My courage came from the depths of my heart. Lucas looked surprised, but his eyes were full of challenge.

“So, you know who you're dealing with?”

In an instant, our relationship was shaken. There was unbearable tension, but I held on. Here I was, standing in the middle of a storm that could possibly destroy everything.

“Now, tell me, what do you know about our past?”

As if time had stopped, my eyes stared at Lucas, hoping for an answer that would clear up all this confusion. My curiosity throbbed, and with every heartbeat, I knew I had to face this harsh reality.

“Isabella, maybe it's time I uncovered all the secrets. Everything you've kept and everything I know.”

With that sentence, Lucas gave a more profound threat. Here we were, caught up in a game bigger than just betrayal.

“Do you dare to face him?”

A chill ran down my spine, as if a wave were threatening to pull me into the depths of darkness. Was I truly prepared to confront my past?

“Remember, Isabella. What you want may not be what you need.”

His words made me flinch. There was truth in his every word, and at that moment, I felt trapped between two worlds-the world I left behind and the world I had to face.

Suddenly, a flashback flashed through my mind-when I decided to leave everything behind in search of the truth. And now, that truth might come back to haunt me.

“Lucas, tell me, what do you know about my past?”

He moved closer until we were almost no distance apart, and he whispered softly,

“One day, you will realize the truth, Isabella. Until then, take this as a warning.”

The voice broke the silence between us, and I knew with every breath I took that the tension was sinking deeper, waiting for a revelation that could change the course of my life forever.

“Lucas, you think I'm afraid of you? Don't make me laugh. I know more than you think”.

My voice echoed among the dark trees that shrouded this meeting place. This should have been a safe location, hidden from enemy spies. However, the tension in the air was more pronounced than the smell of the wet ground after the rain.

Hate and attraction were mixed in my soul. Lucas' deep gaze seemed to be trying to penetrate the layers of walls I had built. Why did I have to feel like this?

“You're still fighting that attraction, Isabella. It seems like you're enjoying this fight.”

She came closer, the distance between us narrowing. In the dim light, her eyes shone with painful excitement. There was something in her smile that made me hesitate.

“What do you want from me, Lucas? My pain is not a game you can enjoy.”

My voice trembled, signaling uncertainty. The courage I had built trembled between us, like a steep bridge. If I allow her to come closer, will I fall?

“You know that all of this isn't just about us. It's bigger than that. Are you ready to listen?”

His words were like daggers, cutting deep. He had a way of distracting from the scary truth. He knew I couldn't go back, but would I be able to step forward?

“And if I won't? Are you going to threaten me again with stories of the past?”

Although my heart was pounding, I tried to show firmness. However, there was a strange vibration between us, like two magnets attracting each other.

“Isabella, you don't understand. Every step you take can change everything. You need to know who your real enemy is.”

Suddenly, the atmosphere around us changed. The sound of footsteps approached, spreading a chill throughout my body.

“Lucas, someone's coming!”

My instinctive power kicked in, but it was too late. In an instant, dark shadows stormed out from behind the trees, pointing weapons at us.

“You have to go, Isabella! Now!”
