Chapter 3

I tried to open the password with my birthday and Yeremiah's birthdays, but it failed.

I tried our marriage anniversary, it still did not work.

Until I tried Caitlin's birthday, it finally opened.

Two movie tickets were brought out as I took out my ID from inside.

It was the movie ticket stub that Yeremiah and I watched on our first date.

I tore apart the memories and threw them into the trash can.

I returned to my bedroom and started packing my belongings.

In the evening, Yeremiah called me and asked me to find someone to deliver a document for him to a restaurant.

It was snowing and windy outside, so I went out wrapped in a fur coat.

When I opened the door of the restaurant, I happened to run into Yeremiah and Caitlin drinking a toast.

Seeing my appearance, the commotion in the dining table suddenly paused.

Yeremiah looked at me with a disappointed expression.

The others looked at me with amusement, waiting for me to scream and lose my temper.

But to everyone's surprise, I was not angry.

I handed over the document to him and simply said,

"Can you please lend me your car keys? I left something in your car."

Hearing this, Caitlin took out the Porsche key from her bag, stuck out her tongue at me and said, "I'm sorry, Ms. Hoffman. I love to sleep in so much that I'm always late for work."

"So, Yeremiah simply gave me his car."

"Ms. Hoffman? Don't call her that, you little fool."

He doted on her and wiped the corners of her mouth stained with alcohol.

I followed the man's words and said, "Mr. Hoffman and I are not married, Ms. Nolte, please don't misunderstand."

After saying that, I picked up the key and turned to leave, but Yeremiah suddenly grabbed my hand and said with a strange look, "Michele, you've felt like vomiting whenever you smelled alcohol since you got pregnant. Why is it that today ...."

I was about to respond when Caitlin suddenly turned pale and hugged his arm.

"Yeremiah, she is not going to look for that pearl necklace in the car, right?"

"Um ... but the necklace has been lost by a fool like me. What should I do?"

The necklace Caitlin mentioned was a relic left to me by my grandmother.

Yeremiah comforted her softly, saying that it was just a cheap necklace and if it was lost, she did not need to take it to heart.

Hearing those words, I put down the car keys and looked at her with neither joy nor sadness.

"He's right. It's just a cheap necklace I've worn for nine years. Since you like it, I'll give it to you as a gift."

I walked out of the restaurant and was about to take a taxi when the man caught up with me.

He stuffed the packaged nourishing fish soup into my hand and said with a condescending tone, "I'll go with you for the prenatal check-up tomorrow."

I lied casually. "You got the date wrong. The prenatal checkup is the day after tomorrow."

He wanted to refute, but he saw Caitlin standing at the door of the restaurant.

He immediately turned back, took her hand and breathed on her hands to warm her up.

I watched them return to the restaurant. Although I never ate fish, I fed the fish soup to the stray cats and then went home.

That night, the man did not come back the whole night.

And I did not call him even a single time.

At five o'clock in the afternoon, I had just put on my coat when Yeremiah, who had suddenly returned home, took me into the car.

In the courtyard of the Hoffman Family, he brought me to his parents.

"Mom and Dad, this is Michele Lautner."

After years of being in love, he finally brought me to meet his parents.

But my reaction disappointed him greatly. "Uncle and Auntie, I have some last-minute matters, please forgive me for leaving first."

As soon as the words fell, Yeremiah grabbed my wrist and exerted himself secretly.

"Mom and Dad, she was just joking with you. You guys prepare dinner, I'll take her to get familiar with the environment first."

The man forcibly dragged me to the top-floor bedroom and started the so-called house tour.
