Chapter 4

My frequent actions of checking the time on my phone soon "Michele, you used to clamor to see the room where I grew up, why are you now mute when you see it?"

"Hmm? Pretty good."

My irrelevant answer made him frown.

"You've been looking at your phone. Is there anything interesting in it?"

"No."

Even though I said so, his face remained tense.

He snatched my phone and pointed it at his face.

The screen kept showing "unlock failed".

He asked me in surprise how it could not recognize his face.

I was about to speak when a sudden crisp sound came from outside the window sill behind me.

The tall man saw something and left me without saying a word, disappearing like a ghost.

Ten minutes later, following a series of bell-like giggles, I saw Caitlin with flowers on her head in the backyard of the Hoffman Family manor.

Yeremiah was carefully supporting her as they played a childish game of tiptoeing across a single-plank bridge.

"Yeremiah, you must hold me steady ... ah, Yeremiah, help me!"

Her feet slipped and her face blushed as she fell into the man's chest.

The two of them were first taken aback, then they exchanged a tacit smile at each other.

The smile in Yeremiah's eyes disappeared completely after he noticed me.

"Huh? Michele, why are you here?"

She looked at me innocently, blinked a few times and began to gently stroke the man's chest with her pink fist.

"Oh, I see. You finally decided to bring your ugly wife home to meet your parents."

"Congratulations, Michele."

Although she said the blessing, the girl's tone was tinged with tears, which made Yeremiah purse his lips and feel distressed.

"It's just a meal, there's nothing to congratulate, you little fool."

After comforting her, he looked at me with an extremely cold look.

"Is dinner ready?"

Before I could respond, dozens of long snakes suddenly fell from the treetops above my head, coming from nowhere.

I was so scared that I fell to the ground and Caitlin let out a shrill scream.

Seeing this, Yeremiah did not even look at me, hugged Caitlin tightly and ran away quickly.

It was not until the forestry personnel came to catch the snake that the man remembered me.

He returned to the tree, searching left and right, but the security guard at the entrance informed him that I had already left.

Late night airport terminal.

My mobile phone kept vibrating while waiting for boarding.

I did not press the answer button until the last minute before takeoff.

As soon as the call was connected, Yeremiah hurriedly asked me where I was.

Apparently, he had returned home and found no one.

I did not give him a proper answer. I just said, "It's none of your business."

He was stunned for a moment and said with a hint of annoyance, "A pregnant woman's temper tantrums are not good for the baby."

"Stop being stubborn!"

"Give me the address, I will go pick you up now ...."

Before he could finish speaking, the sticky sound of his cheek being kissed could be heard on the other end of his phone and Caitlin's light laughter.

Yeremiah cleared his throat.

He changed the subject and said coldly, "I have something unexpected at the company, so you can take a taxi back."

Then, he added with some concern. "Send me a message when you get home."

The man hung up the phone with that.

I opened the chat box and and as he wished, I sent him a message. [Yeremiah, let's break up. I sincerely wish you and Caitlin happiness and longevity.]

At the same time as the message was displayed as read, I blocked all of the man's contact information and turned off my phone.
